... with all the trolls,
... with all the lurkers comming out of their closets,
... with all the whining,
What makes the internet go round? It's one thing: Drama.
People will NEVER be happy or content with any piece of work, just stroll over to SC2, WoW or any other game forum and have a look.
This points to one thing: ppl have too much free time. Perhaps it would be better if the Drengin empire invaded us after all. There would be less drama in the slave pits of Drengin prime.
But the game does have issues, and even though not everyone has the Shakespearean skills to administer their critique in a sensible way, it is still valid in most cases.
... with useful threads like yours...
Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously, what's your point? Do you try to make the forum even more cluttered in an effort to prevent Stardock from finding out about the problems of the game (and the praise for it) or potential buyers from getting information or new players from getting help?
Fiesta!!!
... and all the whining about the whining.
Oh gawd another troll complaining about other whiners and complainers. It never stops and then causes others who enjoy the game like me to become part of something that should never be in the first place. <sigh>
I think (constructive) criticism is more useful for the devs than praises.
Definitely. Those who just troll about the game are no worse than those who shower it with unearned praise.
i agree, as long as it is constructive. There are a few people who just want to vent at the devs. Thats not useful.
Day 0 is NO fun when the game doesnt play. Spending it in the support forum is not fun. On the other side, I must say that there are relatively few but reports there, so the release doesnt seem to be broken or anything. Still I assume that Stardock is racking up quite a list of things to consider and fix for the next days. At least I hope so, since I cannot play.
Happens on every game's release. And there will always be bug reports and claims the game is broken. I have never ever had a single game that hasn't crashed at some point. I'm actually impressed that there are quite a few threads with compliments and constructive criticism and only a few 'OMG this game is so crap and broken' threads
Stardock did a good job getting the game basics in good shape. Now they just need to work on the polish Most of the game's issues are with polish (which includes balance).
I generally prefer it when such polish is done *before* the release of a game, especially since it is likely to affect reviewers, and a good review score can be of great benefit to "smaller" games.
However, I appreciate that this can be hard to manage when the release date is effectively fixed due to external constraints.
Correct me if I'm mistaken but uhh is this version actually the "release" version? AFAIK the pre-release is just the gold version that is not as complete as the 0-day version (tomorrow) is supposed to be.
I hope your game gets fixed ASAP my friend so you can enjoy the battles with the rest of us .
According to Frogboy the version that was released today is Half Way between "Gold release" and "0-Day Patch release". I'd say we can still expect an update today or tomorrow but it probably won't be a "Massive" update. Probably bug fixes and tweaks and crash fixes for those who are having the most issues getting the game to run.
I don't disagree. I was hoping more polish would be done and be ready for release - but they did have a ton on their plate after beta 4. To be honest, I think the overhaul of tactical combat so close to release (from real-time to turn-based) is what screwed up their time table quite a bit. They had to spend so much effort in getting it working decently well that they were left with little time on the small things.
Agreed. It's easy to be demanding and complain about something. It's much more useful to provide quality feedback in a diplomatic way. However, most people online these days have nothing resembling "diplomacy" because they are "A PAYING CUSTOMER" and what they say goes. It gets old, quickly. Have some tact people.
That being said, based on the forums and what I've seen (download is at 90.5%, almost done), I also expected a little more polish from Stardock. If I was Brad I'd have spent an entire day reading everything and checking everything to see if it made sense. I'd also have compiled a "Top List" of complaints and problems from beta and spent a day fixing them. I'm sure there was a lot they had to do but, hell, just get an intern to do the basic polishing work if you have too. With unemployment the way it is it should be easy to find some desperate college kid who is decent and dedicated. Hell, I'll do it if you give me the internship possibility!
Bearing in mind it's not quite the Day 0 release the lack of polish isn't exactly unexpected.
So far I'm quite happy with the game, although as I said if they'd simply gave me Beta 4 without the memory bug I'd have been happy, so they've exceeded my expectations There's some minor niggles still and several areas that could use improvement, but as I see it anything further they add is just gravy.
When you buy new shoes do you generally polish them before you buy them or after you buy them and wear them awhile?
That has got to be the most retarded analogy I've ever heard, and makes no sense when you apply it to GAMES.
One of the biggest issues right now is the lack of documentation. If they can get us some information on HOW TO PLAY THE GAME, then 50% of these forum posts would go away. The other 50% are all the bugs, UI problems, spelling mistakes etc.
Except that this version is after the gold one. ie: It's a newer version then the one someone gets if they buy a retail copy, install it, and play. It IS a release version, and thus lack of polish isn't unexpected for that reason.
(Lack of polish is expected because the release date was too early, but that's a whole other issue.)
Actually a good dose of both help. That way the features you like can be enhanced as well. Besides, the developers worked hard on this work and would like to hear you are enjoying the game as well.
Don't be fooled by all the whining (mine included) The game is utterly fantastic. It's pretty amazing what you guys have created here. All it needs is a little bit more polish, and some documentation. Once that is done it will be pretty close to being a perfect game (for me anyway).
Damn straight you tell em Zargon. I really think what you should do is move all the negative threads to a rage forum somewheres else as to not clutter the important good information on this main page that all newcomers will see.
Negative threads serve their purpose, unless they're just flaming - those should be locked. But the game does still need work, and constructive negative threads help illustrate the areas that need more love.
Removing all the negative threads and leaving only the flowery ones would do more harm than good, most people aren't that stupid
