Frogboy, do you think we could get an update as to what is going on? I'm not sure what the point of getting us all excited for no reason would be, other then just to torture us. Is that what this is? BECAUSE I AM BEING TORTURED.

Doesn't that still tend to tick off bosses because "you should have given a better estimate" or "why couldn't you do it when you said you'd be able to"?

Not if your flight has been delayed because of some annoying people that blocked everything (or because of some annoying retailers that broke the street date).
Depends on your boss. My boss is pretty good about realizing that while we gave our best estimate, "stuff happens". Especially when people get called in on an off day unexpectedly.
IMO the estimate was a good faith one and simply didn't work out because something went wrong. That happens frequently when plans change on the fly like they did today. In this case, people should just accept it.
Otherwise, we'll wind up with Blizzard style responses where they refuse to give time frames or indications about what is going on except in the most trivial cases.

Man, I just spent the last hour looking at comical "fail" pictures. Some were truly inspiring. Even if the game wasn't on the up and coming, I'd still be this bored. I really gotta find something to do.
Frogboy has been saying for a week it'd be an early release, and he said on Friday I believe that it would be this morning / mid-day. I'd consider him saying they'll do it to be sufficient for a reasonable expectation it'll happen, just like me saying to my boss I'll go in on Monday gives them a reasonable expectation I'll be in work on Monday. I'm not contractually obliged to be in work on Monday, but I reckon if I don't go in or at least let her know I won't be in she's got reasonable grounds to be upset even without having anything in writing saying this would be the case.
Or in other words, if I tell you I'm going to do something and then I don't do it you'd be reasonably expected to feel some measure of disappointment because there's a breach of trust, not because you have an overblown sense of entitlement. Now if Frogboy had stated they were actually just going to sit on it until release day and people started demanding it be released immediately you might have an entitlement issue, but complaining that someone did not do something they said they would is just plain old human nature.
Could be worse. Could be Valve's forums before one of their releases. The Left4Dead 2 release was late by, what, a few hours? Hundreds upon hundreds of whines. I enjoyed the game, but I enjoyed the forums during its delay even more.
what if you told your boss you'd be in to work on monday, but on the way to work your car exploded with you in it and you were in the intensive burn unit at the hospital. The doctors called to tell her you would still be in to work that day, but it might be a little bit late.
Would your boss still be upset?
Guys, when you've had the game a week or two, NOBODY is going to care anymore whether they got it a few hours later than they hoped. I understand being excited, but stuff happens and not everything goes as planned. Why get all upset over something that is not even going to matter to you anymore after a few days have passed?
What if you told your boss you were going to call in sick because you want to play Elemental? What then?
normally this means they found a game stopping(or at least fund destroying) bug in Gold and need to get a complete stable set of code out to us who will be the first vocal feedback for the Game. Even if the code set is not 0-day it needs to be a functional set.
Well, that just shows the one instance. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think they gave him another box with the 360 in it or something, because if they did, then that would've been a great little joke, imo. If they didn't, that's damn harsh.
