If you have a Xbox360 or a PS3 there's a new shooter coming out in October that looks simply Bad Ass!!! It's called "Vanquish". I'm definitely picking this one up for my 360. I wish this was headed to PC as well, but sadly it's not. Check out this vid. It's a cinematic but it's cut full of game-play. As a Sci-Fi shooter fan this looks like a boat load of Awesome, even more so then Gears of War.
And what so special about this game? Looks like utter sh*t and GeOW clone.
Do not buy a console for this because you'll regret in the first 10 minutes.
I wouldn't buy a console for any one single game, except maybe a Zelda or Metroid game. Luckily I already have a XBox360, a Wii, and of course my uber PC
i fucking hate stupid "sticky-back" cover systems. the only reason they're so popular is because controllers suck for shooters.
Isn't that the same pointless machismo from Resistance, Killzone, Mad World? Ill keep my PS3 a blue-ray, Super Street Fighter IV only machine.

Even more hilarious is that from looking over reviews, any console shooter that doesn't use this system gets blasted by critics now. Not only is it a giant gameplay crutch to make up for not having a mouse and keyboard, but it's apparently now a crutch they'll have to use forever.
ZZZZZZ is all I can say, I own a 360, ps3 for exclusive games that are not on the pc, I tried some fps games on the original xbox and ps2 (Halo, quake and some others) and since that I have not bought a single console fps. Why? the controller, that's basically it. For a PC gamer that is used to mouse & keyboard the controller is a frustration to play with and I won't have anything to do with it considering I'll be tearing myself apart with the fact "OH GOD DAMMIT I COULD DO THIS IN 0.05 SECONDS WITH A MOUSE" as I'm trying to aim at something. I did try Gears of War and Lost Planet on the 360 but those were the last third person games I'll ever buy as well that doesn't having a targetting mechanism as for example Red Dead Redemption has which I do like for single player but the multiplayer with that mechanism is so friggin horrible.
Final Words: If a shooter on a console with a standard analog stick controller does not have a targeting/lock mechanism I ain't going near it even if some bozzo gives it 11 out of 10 points. In the end I know I'll be hating myself for playing it every time I have to aim at something just because I know the mouse + keyboard is better.
Yup, my sentiments exactly. I can't stand hand controllers. I wouldn't bat a eye and purchase a console system if the system/games supported a mouse, keyboard interface. I would think eventually the consoles sytems and PCs have to converge at some point to create a machine that is dedicated for just playing games with web surfing/social chats and forums functionailty added in.
And necro - joystiq just published a review and gave Vanquish some pretty high scores.
Here's a link to the review: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/19/vanquish-review/
Hmm. I usually don't play shooters (especially the current crop) because I actually have political issues with the ones set in past, present, or present-resembling conflicts (looooooooooong story), but this seems somewhat interesting. I have virtually no money at the moment and probably won't gain much more for a while, but this might be worth looking into. Although the truth is, I don't care if it's that good of a game and suspect it is not incredible- but as long as it's at least mildly entertaining I'll probably put it on the list.
This is getting some fairly decent reviews. Described as a much faster Gears of War. Seems perhaps I was wrong? In any case, I might have to check out the demo.
Dito - demo before I buy. Still, nice reviews.
while i heard alot of good stuff. Never seen it compared to Gears though. And i wouldnt either. It feels more like your like a super mech in a john woo game. Slide and shooting at 200mph and then slow mo.
Gears focuses on something completely different.
The "dialog" in the advert for this game was embarrassing to listen to. I'm definitely in the wrong age group for vanquish.
The review here seems pretty spot on for once for a Gamespot review.
