If you have a Xbox360 or a PS3 there's a new shooter coming out in October that looks simply Bad Ass!!! It's called "Vanquish". I'm definitely picking this one up for my 360. I wish this was headed to PC as well, but sadly it's not. Check out this vid. It's a cinematic but it's cut full of game-play. As a Sci-Fi shooter fan this looks like a boat load of Awesome, even more so then Gears of War.
Check this one out...WOW!!!
Looks like Lost Planet on crack and on Earth with all the typical Japanese stereotype characters.
could be worth a feel...but I"ll get Kane&Lynch 2 before that one
I keep watching it and thinking how kick ass it would be with Gundams. They need to make a Gundam Wing game with that engine I think.
Alright, I opened up the thread and thought "sigh, another hyped console game..." but after watching the vid I found myself wanting an X360 for the first time in a long, long, long time.
It has a certain anime-esque style to it, without actually being anime-esque. And I must say that that style does appeal to me greatly.
That's what I thought when I first saw it today as well. I don't get overly excited about console games anymore, haven't in a long, Long, time. I especially don't get excited about shooters as I think the whole shooting genre is played out all to hell. This just looks too awesome to pass up. There's another shooter called "BulletStorm" I've been keeping my eye on that looks pretty sweet too. If it comes down to having to pick between the two though, Vanquish wins hands down.
i dont think this game looks all that good. And i love consoles too.
On a side note i think PC gamers need to stop being closed minded or get off their high horse, and acknowledge consoles have some really good exclusives.
Demons Souls, Uncharted 2, and even a simple 3rd person shooter like Gears of War or Halo 3 seems to play better than just about any PC games i ever played.
I tried Halo 3 once. The controls are so inaccurate and annoying that it drove me nuts.
A gamepad is simply not a precision tool like a mouse is. It's like trying to aim with a drunken camel. Far as I know uncharted 2 had Quick Time Events like Uncharted 1, in which case I'm pretty much guaranteed to hate it. QTEs are what you put in when you're low on gameplay.
Is that Hilary Clinton? Is this what would happen if she became president?
ok - this looks REALLY good.
Err okay...
Didn't I just play this, it was called Transformers: War for something... it had big crystals in it.
What I saw above was just another standard action game with boss battles forumla. This time with signature asian moments! And your all like "OMG OMG OMG!!"
Wow they put some pretty graphics and animations in and didn't remove the stupid quick time events (Transformers did! They win!).
Welcome to meh. There are some good games on console (Hevy Rain, Bayonetta, GoW (both kinds) maybe even a little Halo) but THIS is not one of them.
And Raven, Bulletstorm looks like such a peice of hype wrapped in a blanket of explosions. Its like they took the words 'story' 'plot' and 'sense' and threw them away in favour of just one; 'money'. It angers me to think they my UT dollars (converted from real money) are funding this kind of shallow wastery.
Remember E3? I was like the whole way through and when the trotted out some female to say shit to prove how amazing thier game was going to be I was like .
You know?
Well, I think we'll have to agree to disagree on Vanquish. I think this game looks f'kin killer. I don't like a lot of games that have heavy QTE's. The ones in Vanquish look light in comparison to the ones in games like Ninja Blade which had enough QTE's to choke a horse. I don't get into shooters much at all, 3rd person action games even less, but this one just looks damn awesome. The character moves fast, like a Gundam, can pull off mêlée attacks or switch to guns to blow shit up with a quickness. I don't know if it's the overall theme I'm attracted to or what, but I can't wait to give it a try. Honestly though, it is one I'll rent before I buy just on principle of it being what it is. I buy very few console games in comparison to how many PC games I buy per year. Take Dante's Inferno for instance. I rented it, beat it in less than two days, and then ended up buying it just last month after the original price dropped $20. I bought a used copy at Gamestop for $35. Awesome game for a hack and slash but again I think it's the theme of the game that I'm really attracted too.
As for Bulletstorm, I don't listen to hype. I watched the game-play footage and thought it looked fun as hell. For me Bulletstorm is more of an upgraded Unreal Tournament. Something you get in to just for fun mindless kill counts. That's how I played the original Unreal Tourney and I played the shit out of it for yeeeeeaaaarrrrssss. Hell, I still re-install the original UT every year or so and play it off and on for a couple months. To me the multiplayer matches of the original UT have never been met by another game since.
I'll wait for the reviews. It could be amazing, but frankly it didn't look that impresive to me. It might be more fun to play than watch, as one would expect.
looks like shit.
I don't mind QTE sequences, provided the player actually gets something out of them other than "Mash "X" to not die". I loved the QTE sequences in God of War since you got to disembowel cyclopes, rip the heads off Gorgons, and make minotaurs eat your blades.
QTE are the worst kind of game design. They are literaly the most simple game design possible: whack a mole.
Its just a stupid bad game laid over a cutscene. If its more of an 'interactive' thing (like Indigo Propehcy) with very little in the way of 'failure' that actualy adds to the 'feel' of the scene then you have done something but most of them are litteraly just a "press x to keep playing the... OHNOES! YOU FAILED N00B!!11! BACK TO THE START OF THE GAME!"
This game's biggest fail is No PC version.
Vanquish looks like Lost Planet on steroids. I've liked the first. Hated the second. So this game is "meh" for me.
Looks extremely bland IMO.
Hmm.. what was up with grabbing that giant bullet and shoving it back down into the arm? I guess it didn't have much force behind it if our hero was able to turn it around in mid-air like that.
I need to see a bit more gameplay outside of boss fights. Looks like there is some potential here but I saw some moments which made me think that monotony could set in...
I could be wrong but I think the robotic armor increases his strength and speed and all that jazz. There's one piece of footage where he's rocketing across the ground with flames shooting off of his feet like rocket boosters.
Simply because the game is what it is I think monotony is a given eventually, as with any kind of linear action game. Look at Ninja Gaiden or Dante's Inferno. Those are both awesome action masterpieces but as far as "re-playability" goes they don't have a whole lot to offer.
Those games are fun because of the mechanics of the game. For example, Resident Evil 4 is simply fun to play. The situations never really alter, you're simply doing the same thing for 20 hours - but it holds up, because of it's mechanics. Same for Ninja Gaiden, playing the game is simply fun. This, however, simply doesn't have that 'it looks fun' rather only 'it looks explosion-y'. Hopefully they release a demo prior to it's release, but it just doesn't hold my attention at current.
I won't go too far down the path... I just wondered what type of enhancements a suit needs to have to give you that type of leverage in mid-air
I just picked up a ps3 and am looking fwd: to some of this monotony. Demon's Souls is on the way. Dante's is my next choice I believe. Bayonetta, GoW collection... a few others. My son wants CoD:MW2 to play with his friends. Then I can get into the RPG's... (not cross-titles like DA:O though).
I agree that a solid Gundam or even a Valkyrie based game would be incredible.
I am usually not of a console fan but there are times where I just want to sit back on the couch with a beer and a gamepad.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Don. I think this game looks funner than hell, but, I'll reserve final judgment until I rent it and try it out, just like I did with Dante's Inferno. I thought Gears of War was awesome and had Great Mechanics but I also thought your character didn't move fast enough in that game, unlike say Ninja Gaiden where you get Ninja Speed . I think this game will be a lot of fun for those times when you just want to sit back and blow shit up and gun things down.
I'm more or less the same way with my Xbox360 and Wii. I buy specific titles that I like and more or less no others. I think you'll really like Dante's Inferno. There's some DLC coming up for it that adds cooperative multiplayer to it as well so you and your son can play together. Depending on how old your son is though Dante's Inferno might be a little "mature" for him, but that's your decision. The game has some boobs in it and a lot of graphic violence. It does take place in hell after-all hehe.
It looks decent as modern shooters go, but I'm not seeing the Holy Sh!t Awesome here. Though I can't say I've been excited about ANY shooter for years, so it's probably just me.
But I will agree with the sentiments in this thread over consoles. I finally broke down and got a PS3 (hooked up to my PC monitor and speakers of course, new TVs are expensive!) and I'm having a blast with numerous games that will never be ported over to PC. Some people make it sound like you have to abandon one platform to enjoy another; This is insane fanboyism. There's no reason why I won't pick up Elemental: War of Magic when it comes out (unless it sucks of course ) just because I have a current gen console now.
