UFO's and Aliens. Do they exist? Do you think there's even a chance that there is other intelligent life in our galaxy or universe or do you think we Humans are the only intelligent life in all of creation? These are questions that we as a species, man-kind, have asked since as far as our recorded history goes back. Even Ancient man, with no knowledge of modern science or modern understanding of what "Space" was, would look to the night sky at the twinkling stars and wonder...."Are we truly alone?".
Honestly, I've always thought aliens existed. Whether or not they've actually visited this planet at any point in it's history I don't know and I don't think anyone can truly say one way or the other and have definitive proof. Of course there is probably just as much "proof" that aliens don't exist as there is that they do, but, at least we are now discovering for a Fact that there is or was "some form" of life in the universe outside of the planet Earth. We know from microscopic fossils in martian rocks that at one point millions of years ago there was at the very least Single Celled life on Mars. We found this out back in the late 90's. Didn't hear about it? That's not surprising since I only found out about it because of a 10 second mention on ABC's "World News Tonight" back in 96-97. Today how-ever you can research this for your-self as many papers and articles have been published on the subject. A quick Google Search will lead you to many results such as these:
Meteorite Yields Evidence of Primitive Life on Early Mars Source: www.solarviews.com Article from 1997
Fossil Life in Martian Rock Found in Antarctica ? Source: http://spider.seds.org/spider/Mars/Marsrock/marsrocks.html Article from 1996
Proof of Life in Three Martian Rocks May Come This Year Source: www.popsci.com Article from 2010
This is enough in my eyes to call it "Definitive Proof", they're just waiting on the specific results so they can say it's a fact without a shadow of a doubt, and I respect them for waiting and taking it slow and doing the science the right way. A claim such as this can't be rushed no matter how apparent the results of any "proof" might be.
While I do believe in intelligent life outside of this planet, I'm still a skeptic. I mostly believe in what I can see with my own eyes. What I can feel with my own two hands. I think it's important for anyone doing any Serious research into the matter to be a skeptic and to try to dis-prove or debunk as many fakes as possible. With our advances in computers and video editing and special effects it's easier than ever for the nut-jobs and conspiracy wackos out there to make convincing "proof" on their own and it's people like those that bring a bad ilk to any Serious research into the matter. Sadly there are a lot of fakers and crazy people out there working in both directions of the debate. There are people who make fake videos of UFO's and try to pass them off as real and there are various groups and religious zealots who try to prove that Everything is fake and say that None Of It is real and anyone who believes there is intelligent non-human life in the universe is a moron or a liar.
Worse yet there are many people out there who are terrified of the idea that aliens may exist. Some people are so closed minded that no matter what scientific advances we may make or what we may learn about the universe and life its-self, they will Never believe that alien life exists even if aliens were to land on the White-House lawn and announce to the world that they are real and that they are here. Even if that did happen (which of course it hasn't) there would be a certain percentage of the world's population that would say it was faked, even if the proof was pointing a particle cannon at their head.
I'm about to tell a story I've never told publicly before. I've never told it honestly because I'm a little afraid of what it may make people think in regards to my sanity. If you choose to believe it, that's great. If you choose not to believe it, that's great too. One thing I do know for sure, I know what I saw...
Note: Before I get into the story, keep in mind that I was a kid. I was 13 or 14 years old. I had never done any drugs, didn't smoke cigs, didn't drink, and I wasn't a wild kid with a crazy imagination. I never had an "imaginary friend" at any point and even when I did grow up and start "partying" I've never had a hallucination nor have I ever saw something that I wasn't completely sure was right in front of me (magic tricks aside).
It was the summer of the year that my family moved from Deland in Volusia County out to Lake Mack in Lake County, Florida. I had to go to summer school that year to make up a failing English grade in 7th grade English (long story but basically I got screwed out of the grade I should have received). Because there weren't that many kids in my area going to summer school that year all of us in the neighborhood had to meet down at the corner store which was the only bus-stop for summer school that year. School started at 7 A.M. and was all the way in Leesburg (almost an hour from my house). We kids had to be at the bus-stop at 5:30 A.M. because it was a very long ride all the way to Leesburg from where we were in Lake Mack and there were other students to stop and pick up along the way. I was walking to the bus-stop down a long winding road. It was a normal paved road and there were houses and trailers all over the place. Even though the road was deserted because it was so early in the morning it was still a populated and crowded neighborhood. As I was rounding the bends I noticed all the tall pine trees were swaying back and forth pretty hard like there was about to be a storm, but oddly enough I couldn't feel any wind. I'm not going to say there wasn't any wind, there very well could have been and the currents were too high off the ground for me to feel the wind, but, I didn't actually feel any wind.
I was looking up at the tops of the pine trees when a very Large Triangle came out over the trees. At first I thought it was a helicopter and maybe I was seeing the lights on the ends of the rotors but then two things hit me. First, I couldn't hear Any noise. None what-so-ever. Second, if the lights I saw were on the ends of the rotors they would have been spinning very fast and not been stationary. They were also way too far apart to be rotor blades. The object was at least 3 times as high up as the trees, maybe 4 times as high, and it...was....Massive. I'm talking like the size of a Boeing 747, Massive. I quickly realized there was no way in hell that it was a helicopter. There were no flashing lights on it. They were on steadily. There were four lights in total. One larger light in the center and three more slightly smaller lights, one at each tip of the Triangle. I had seen plenty of helicopters up close, even military ones as I've lived close to Deland Airport for most of my time in Deland and seen plenty of air shows and air planes and helicopters first hand. I've seen both the Apache and the smaller Cobra Attack Chopper that it shares it's design with. It's also of note that out in Lake Mack in Lake County we were technically on the out-skirts of the Ocala National Forrest. The army had a bombing range on the far edge of the forrest and at least 3 or 4 times a year you could hear the bombs being dropped and all you had to do was go outside when the planes or helicopters were flying over-head to see what vehicles were doing the bombing. Lake Mack was right underneath their flight path for a long time even though the bombing range its-self was a good 60 or 70 miles away.
Anyway, when I realized just what it was I was looking at....well, I'm not ashamed to admit I got scared and started running for the bus-stop. I didn't look back and I didn't slow down. When I finally got to the point where I could see the store and see the other kids through the darkness standing under the street light at the store I stopped running. I didn't want the other kids thinking I was too scared to walk to the bus-stop in the dark, which I wasn't. I've never been afraid of the dark, not even as a small child. At that point when I stopped running I took the time to look behind me. Not surprisingly I didn't see anything. Nothing. No ship, no Triangle, no wind, and the trees were as still as could be since there was no wind.
I'm not gonna say I know for sure that it was aliens. I don't and to surmise that with no further evidence would be kinda stupid in my eyes. What I do know is that I have no idea what it was and it WASN'T a conventional aircraft. I honestly don't know what It was, but I do know I have Never seen Anything like It nor have I since. That one experience has led me to believe in intelligent life outside of this planet. I can't say it Was aliens. I can say I Think it was, because I have no other explanation for it.
So.....what do YOU believe? Do YOU think we're alone in the universe? Or do YOU think there is far more out there then we could ever dream is possible?
Or, you know, just get John Crichton.
Think on this if you will...for an alien civilization to make it into space, to travel to other worlds suggests they survived the one event that would have prevented that. Planet Earth has been and will continue to be on the brink of self destruction until the human species matures enough to stop the killing. Stop all the nonsense, recognize and accept the fact that we are all human beings living on the only planet we have, our home as it were, and realize that the only way we'll ever get out there and see for sure who else lives in this universe is to "Grow the hell up". Start acting like the responsible adults we tell everyone we are, accept accountability for the wrongs we perpetrate on each other and......just do the right thing. Seriously...is that too much to ask?
First of all, don't quote wikipedia. If you are going to try to prove me wrong, use a better source. Of course I know that disease has a greater impact than murder. A gamma ray burst would also be more significant. I'm not an idiot.
The point I was trying to make is, if humans never killed each other in the last few million years, we would be extinct. Or I could also say if we never got sick, we would also be extinct. The point is, humans don't suffer as much as a typical species does when it comes to natural selection, therefore we are a danger to ourselves. Carrying capacity would have become diluted at an earlier point in time, where we would have no chance of sustaining our population.
I'm not saying murder or war is right. I was making the point that any sort of population control actually increases the fitness of our species. If trends continue, in the next hundred years or so, our habitat will be completely destroyed and our species will be endangered/extinct. If something wipes out 90% of the human race, not only would our species survive much longer, every other species currently inhabiting the Earth would survive longer. This is the biggest problem in the scientific community right now. It is imperative that we either find a way to restrict population growth, or find another place to live within the next hundred years or so. Tragedy of the commons.
Also, I certainly agree with you that war is a human choice. However, aggression and competition is genetic. War can't really go any further because we've become too powerful. Also, I believe we will see a sharp decline in murder rates as time goes on.
I don't know...but seriously it's logical like that I guess. I mean, if any other intelligent civs would have the necessary techs to create "warp drives", "jump gates", "time machines" or stuff like that [to solve the "huge distance between the stars and galaxies problem], why haven't they visited our planet? This is a very interesting question & discussion btw, but it's kinda pointless as well...since we are just guessing about pretty much everything. Hell....we could even say, that on X planet the creatures can cast magical spells. [..and maybe that is absolutely possible!]
Possibly because we're one in several trillion?
I think Annatar probably has the most likely answer here. Either that or they are visiting our planet. As I say in my story in the OP, I myself have seen a UFO. While I can't definitively say that it Was an alien space craft, I can't definitely say that it Wasn't an alien space craft either. I've never seen anything even remotely like it before or since. I also find it kinda odd because it happened long before the "Triangle" style UFO became popular in the media or in the UFO sighting groups. To me that lends a Lot of credibility to others that have seen the Triangle. That tells me (since I've seen it myself) that those people are indeed seeing "something" real and not mistaking a Stealth Bomber or something that we know does exist for one of these huge flying Triangles.
I just wish I could go back and re-witness the event. The second time around I wouldn't get scared and run away and if I knew about it before hand I'd damn sure have a camera...lol. Part of me also thinks it's highly possible that perhaps the people who've seen it have witnessed the testing of the next step of US Spy Plane or Stealth Fighter or some other type of military aircraft. Possibly even a Flying Aircraft Carrier (like I said this thing is MASSIVE).
Florida was a "Hot Spot" for UFO sightings for a good while back in the 90's and I notice that the sighting trend here in Florida has actually slowed down in the number of reported cases since a lot of the military bases in Florida have been shut down. Coincidence? Who knows for sure?....I don't.
Sorry, but what? Do you have some evidence somewhere to back that up? According to Special Relativity, accelerating an object of non-zero mass (ie, everything worth getting to go that fast) to the speed of light requires infinite energy, thereby making it impossible. Hypothetically there are particles that can move faster than the speed of light (tachyons) but such particles have to be mass-less and can't carry information, making them useless for FTL communication, travel, etc. Furthermore, they can't be slowed down to a speed less than FTL, thereby making it impossible to "make" one by accelerating it past the speed of light. See here.
You didn't quote my whole sentence I said 'Wormholes are the "simplest" solution for teleportation, but still has tons of problems.' They're "simplest" in that (assuming they even exist) doesn't violate relativity or require you to travel at FTL speeds, but again, only if they exist.
Time isn't a dimension in the sense that it that it is part of spacetime, but it is not an artificial construct of humans, either. How we measure it (seconds, hours, days, etc) is, but time itself is not. Yes, the fourth physical dimension is where you get hypercubes and all of that stuff, but it's never been proven that there is more than three dimensions, and any attempt to visualize 4d in our 3d world is going to fall short, fancy cameras or not. It's like drawing a "cube" on a piece of paper; it's really just a collection of 2d lines.
Yeah....I won't say that those options are not valid. There are more possible answers to this question indeed.
Well, wikipedia is not be trusted too much but i was pretty sure of the data i quoted from wikipedia as i have already read it in books or newspapers. Besides that, now that i read your answer to my post, i see that i was sharing your idea from the beginning but i was misunderstood you from one of those who say "war is a good thing, it prevents surpopulation and makes us smarter". My bad. I don't like the conclusions you are drawing but well so is reality. To get back to the topic, did you consider that aliens may not be interested in us at all ? Like in the Rama revealed book from Arthur C Clarke where a 50 kilometers long ark ship comes in the solar system, resupply its energy from the sun and then go away, totally ignoring humanity attempts to communicate.Motivations of aliens could be very different from human ones. Why should they be interested in us after all ?
Sorry, but what? Do you have some evidence somewhere to back that up? No.... I misspoke when I said scientists "know" particles act strangely when traveling FTL, it's strictly their own theories. Right now we assume that it's "impossible" to travel faster than light, because that would basically take the laws of physics and punch them in the throat. However, this universal speed limit is a theory, one which may be corrected at some point in the future......or maybe not. No one knows for sure, that's the beauty of it. I said 'Wormholes are the "simplest" solution for teleportation, but still has tons of problems.' They're "simplest" in that (assuming they even exist) doesn't violate relativity or require you to travel at FTL speeds, but again, only if they exist. Sounds like we agree there. Creating a wormhole to use for teleportation sounds like a terrible idea though. I'm just saying that we can't predict the future.........but we are discovering many new things everyday. As we learn more about the physical universe and it's characteristics we might come across a way to utilize other dimensions (if they exist) or other particles we might discover. In the last 100 years humanity has made some really amazing discoveries and there have been huge technological advances........just think of what could happen in the next 100-200 years. I'm sure the world will be completely different, if we are still here. It's really exciting to talk about. Time isn't a dimension in the sense that it that it is part of spacetime, but it is not an artificial construct of humans, either. How we measure it (seconds, hours, days, etc) is, but time itself is not. Yeah, that's kind of what I meant when I said we made it up. Obviously we can really see time, but we can measure it. Time is sort of a confusing thing to talk about. This guy does some really great tv shows on the science channel about time and space. Also, I think Carl Sagan does a good job explaining the (theoretical) 4th dimension. I know we can't really sense the 4th dimension or prove it exists, but perhaps technology will be able to do it someday. Then, going back to my first statement, it's possible the human species will merge with the technology it created, and we WILL be able to finally sense other parts of the universe that we otherwise could not. I don't know, I'm just really excited for what the future holds.
I'm impressed, several people have already given the correct answer.
There is an incredibly high probability that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, even within our galaxy.
There is an almost zero probability that any ET-intelligent life has ever visited earth.
That 2nd statement is caveated by our current understanding of the laws of physics, especially as related to FTL-travel. Now, as a curious person, I find it interesting to ask 'but what if...' questions, as I scientist I reject them, because they are untestable by our current technology level as well as our current understanding of the universe. Somewhat akin to applying science to theological questions, like the IDers try to do.
So for the immediate I accept that intelligent life is practically a given, but that UFOs being of ET origin is a completely unfounded, and unintelligent position to hold.
I found this in the news today: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/08/05/churchill-ordered-ufo-cover-up/
Heh...now check out this:
lol...
So the small proportion of sightings which could not be easily explained as airplane lights, meteors, ... must be ALIENS!!!!
UFO nutters are exactly the same as those religious folks who explain everything they don't understand with 'god did it'.
I think it's worth noting the sentence just below the article; "The Sun contributed to this report." The Sun is one of the worst places to get any sort of legitimate news. It's just a step up from all the conspiracy websites. I'd take anything they say with a lot of salt... like the whole shaker
Now those are really interesting vids. Seeing as it's shown from two separate angles it would lead someone to think there's no way it could be faked. Then again it very well could be an elaborate hoax. Those spiral things have been sighted a few times around the globe in the last 6 months or so but I honestly have no idea what to make of them. You'd think if they were really some un-explained phenomenon then why isn't every news agency on the planet trying to document these things and how come every government on the planet isn't looking into them? The videos themselves look almost "too good to be true". They're exceptionally clear and focused, like I would expect a CG effect to be in a movie. I would love to be able to say those are real and that's real proof, but having not seen it for myself I can't honestly say. Part of me says it looks fake and part of me says "Wow, holy sh!t".
If those spiral things are real I'd really like to see some research done into them. If they are real then to me it would appear to be some kind of aircraft opening up a portal or something. Still, it does look a little "too good to be true" and usually when things look that way, they are that way...sadly.
The videos are a hoax
"What looked like numerous photographs and videos of a ship entering the cosmos was actually put together by not a team, but one person. Kevin Martin, a Southern California Weatherman has come forward as the hoaxer to what is likely the biggest hoax ever created. Martin claims he e-mailed the material to TheWeatherSpace.com in an effort to test a theory of his out. "Who is more gullible, Americans or Europeans?", asked Martin. "A growing number of conspiracy theorists are American, while Europe seems to have their head on straighter to the facts. I decided to test it out with a half done CGI video and photoshop photo stills, sending it to Betty Morgan at TheWeatherSpace.com Space News section." Martin claims that his theory was correct, Europeans have a better handle on reality than Americans. Upon further investigation it seems like Martin is a master at marketing, graphics, and even manipulation..."http://www.latest-ufo-sightings.net/2010/05/ufo-spiral-in-sky-seen-and-heard-across.html
The things I look for are things that really can't be explained away. Things that are witnessed by hundreds or thousands of people. Take for instance the Mass UFO's sighted over Guadalajara in 2004. This video is on Youtube but it was on the news on a lot of stations around the world when it happened, including on CNN.
This same thing happened only a year or two later over Mexico City its-self. The Mexican Government has released official statements saying it had no idea what the objects were and when fighters were launched to track down the objects all of them avoided the fighter craft that gave chase. The UFO's were witnessed by thousands of people, maybe even hundreds of thousands. It's also odd to notice that when some people were questioned about what they saw there was a fraction of the witnessing population that said they didn't see UFO's and instead what they saw were Angels. Some people even thought they saw the Virgin Mary in the sky. Now, why would some of the thousands of people that witnessed the event say they saw Angels or the Virgin Mary? Granted Mexico has a very large Catholic following so that may have something to do with it. Some of the crack pot conspiracy types that think we were planted here by Aliens also think we were genetically programmed to see them as religious figures. Do I think that? Obviously no. I don't think we were planted here. I think we evolved here. But it would account for some people at mass UFO sightings thinking they are seeing Angels or other religious figures. One of the things that actually bugs me is when one of the "crack pots" theories actually make a "little bit" of sense because they seem to drag down any intelligent research into the matter.
Interesting man, Paul Hellyer. The Former Canadian Defense Minister gave one of the most interesting talks on extraterrestrials. If you have any interest in UFOs you should listen to this guy.
I just read that article...lol. Good timing dear. It's odd though the guy who said they were a hoax later came out and said they weren't a hoax, but then said he wanted to be left alone. He probably did that just to plant suspicion or to try to bring in a little more last minute fame. I thought it was "too good to be true". Usually when it looks that way, that's the case. It's shit just like that guy though that make the whole search for Real intelligent life outside of our planet look bad. I hate that. People like him should be publicly ridiculed for lying to the general public. Instead they get their 15 minutes of fame and possibly some money out of it if they work the angle the right way.
If we have to rely on the US to save us we're fucked...
Heck, we'd probably lose half the planet to friendly fire...
Indeed, my friend. He's not the only high ranking official to come forward. Who knows who Dr. Edgar Mitchelle is? He was an Astronaut on Apollo 14. He's come out and said that he knows aliens exist and even said so flat out on Fox News.
This guy is an American Hero. We sent him in to space and to the moon. He's respected in many fields and as a military man and pilot. You're telling me we trust this guy to be shot off into space on top of billions of dollars of equipment, but we can't trust him to be telling the truth now? He's not the only high ranking American official to come forward either. Tons of retired military personnel, ranking as high as Generals, are coming forward and admitting that the government has been lying to us about aliens. These guys have absolutely Nothing to gain and Everything to loose by coming forward. If you were in your 80's and didn't have that many years left would you throw a Life-Time's worth of respected career and work away just to come out and lie and sound like a crack pot conspiracy theorist? I don't think so. I don't think Edgar Mitchelle would come forward after all these years if it wasn't true. If he's coming forward and lying after all these years then when he dies he would be remembered as just another crack pot looking for his 15 minutes of fame, and I just don't see a man in his position wanting to stoop that low. He's an "Old School American". The types like our grandfathers who lived through the 50's in the era of the "American Dream". These guys had Real Pride in their country, they went to the f'kin moon for christs sake. Would he really throw all that away just to come out and look like a crazy senile fool before he dies?
I can't trust anything from Fixed, I mean Fox Lies Corp. He might be earnest in his views but they will twist it to their Agenda!!
Oh, so people in the military or government can't be batshit crazy?
People are great at deluding themselves, and believing things they want to believe, they will go to all ends to persist in their unfounded beliefs.
This speech is utterly ridiculous. His spew of nonsense has been ongoing for decades, and guess what? The aliens still haven't killed everyone, or enslaved everyone, or done any damn thing which these nut jobs have constantly predicted.
Exopolitics... my ass, just more stupidity from people who are insane.
The "nutjobs" Raven X and I posted didn't predict anything, not much less about alien invasions. If you're going to troll, at least be relevant.
