UFO's and Aliens. Do they exist? Do you think there's even a chance that there is other intelligent life in our galaxy or universe or do you think we Humans are the only intelligent life in all of creation? These are questions that we as a species, man-kind, have asked since as far as our recorded history goes back. Even Ancient man, with no knowledge of modern science or modern understanding of what "Space" was, would look to the night sky at the twinkling stars and wonder...."Are we truly alone?".
Honestly, I've always thought aliens existed. Whether or not they've actually visited this planet at any point in it's history I don't know and I don't think anyone can truly say one way or the other and have definitive proof. Of course there is probably just as much "proof" that aliens don't exist as there is that they do, but, at least we are now discovering for a Fact that there is or was "some form" of life in the universe outside of the planet Earth. We know from microscopic fossils in martian rocks that at one point millions of years ago there was at the very least Single Celled life on Mars. We found this out back in the late 90's. Didn't hear about it? That's not surprising since I only found out about it because of a 10 second mention on ABC's "World News Tonight" back in 96-97. Today how-ever you can research this for your-self as many papers and articles have been published on the subject. A quick Google Search will lead you to many results such as these:
Meteorite Yields Evidence of Primitive Life on Early Mars Source: www.solarviews.com Article from 1997
Fossil Life in Martian Rock Found in Antarctica ? Source: http://spider.seds.org/spider/Mars/Marsrock/marsrocks.html Article from 1996
Proof of Life in Three Martian Rocks May Come This Year Source: www.popsci.com Article from 2010
This is enough in my eyes to call it "Definitive Proof", they're just waiting on the specific results so they can say it's a fact without a shadow of a doubt, and I respect them for waiting and taking it slow and doing the science the right way. A claim such as this can't be rushed no matter how apparent the results of any "proof" might be.
While I do believe in intelligent life outside of this planet, I'm still a skeptic. I mostly believe in what I can see with my own eyes. What I can feel with my own two hands. I think it's important for anyone doing any Serious research into the matter to be a skeptic and to try to dis-prove or debunk as many fakes as possible. With our advances in computers and video editing and special effects it's easier than ever for the nut-jobs and conspiracy wackos out there to make convincing "proof" on their own and it's people like those that bring a bad ilk to any Serious research into the matter. Sadly there are a lot of fakers and crazy people out there working in both directions of the debate. There are people who make fake videos of UFO's and try to pass them off as real and there are various groups and religious zealots who try to prove that Everything is fake and say that None Of It is real and anyone who believes there is intelligent non-human life in the universe is a moron or a liar.
Worse yet there are many people out there who are terrified of the idea that aliens may exist. Some people are so closed minded that no matter what scientific advances we may make or what we may learn about the universe and life its-self, they will Never believe that alien life exists even if aliens were to land on the White-House lawn and announce to the world that they are real and that they are here. Even if that did happen (which of course it hasn't) there would be a certain percentage of the world's population that would say it was faked, even if the proof was pointing a particle cannon at their head.
I'm about to tell a story I've never told publicly before. I've never told it honestly because I'm a little afraid of what it may make people think in regards to my sanity. If you choose to believe it, that's great. If you choose not to believe it, that's great too. One thing I do know for sure, I know what I saw...
Note: Before I get into the story, keep in mind that I was a kid. I was 13 or 14 years old. I had never done any drugs, didn't smoke cigs, didn't drink, and I wasn't a wild kid with a crazy imagination. I never had an "imaginary friend" at any point and even when I did grow up and start "partying" I've never had a hallucination nor have I ever saw something that I wasn't completely sure was right in front of me (magic tricks aside).
It was the summer of the year that my family moved from Deland in Volusia County out to Lake Mack in Lake County, Florida. I had to go to summer school that year to make up a failing English grade in 7th grade English (long story but basically I got screwed out of the grade I should have received). Because there weren't that many kids in my area going to summer school that year all of us in the neighborhood had to meet down at the corner store which was the only bus-stop for summer school that year. School started at 7 A.M. and was all the way in Leesburg (almost an hour from my house). We kids had to be at the bus-stop at 5:30 A.M. because it was a very long ride all the way to Leesburg from where we were in Lake Mack and there were other students to stop and pick up along the way. I was walking to the bus-stop down a long winding road. It was a normal paved road and there were houses and trailers all over the place. Even though the road was deserted because it was so early in the morning it was still a populated and crowded neighborhood. As I was rounding the bends I noticed all the tall pine trees were swaying back and forth pretty hard like there was about to be a storm, but oddly enough I couldn't feel any wind. I'm not going to say there wasn't any wind, there very well could have been and the currents were too high off the ground for me to feel the wind, but, I didn't actually feel any wind.
I was looking up at the tops of the pine trees when a very Large Triangle came out over the trees. At first I thought it was a helicopter and maybe I was seeing the lights on the ends of the rotors but then two things hit me. First, I couldn't hear Any noise. None what-so-ever. Second, if the lights I saw were on the ends of the rotors they would have been spinning very fast and not been stationary. They were also way too far apart to be rotor blades. The object was at least 3 times as high up as the trees, maybe 4 times as high, and it...was....Massive. I'm talking like the size of a Boeing 747, Massive. I quickly realized there was no way in hell that it was a helicopter. There were no flashing lights on it. They were on steadily. There were four lights in total. One larger light in the center and three more slightly smaller lights, one at each tip of the Triangle. I had seen plenty of helicopters up close, even military ones as I've lived close to Deland Airport for most of my time in Deland and seen plenty of air shows and air planes and helicopters first hand. I've seen both the Apache and the smaller Cobra Attack Chopper that it shares it's design with. It's also of note that out in Lake Mack in Lake County we were technically on the out-skirts of the Ocala National Forrest. The army had a bombing range on the far edge of the forrest and at least 3 or 4 times a year you could hear the bombs being dropped and all you had to do was go outside when the planes or helicopters were flying over-head to see what vehicles were doing the bombing. Lake Mack was right underneath their flight path for a long time even though the bombing range its-self was a good 60 or 70 miles away.
Anyway, when I realized just what it was I was looking at....well, I'm not ashamed to admit I got scared and started running for the bus-stop. I didn't look back and I didn't slow down. When I finally got to the point where I could see the store and see the other kids through the darkness standing under the street light at the store I stopped running. I didn't want the other kids thinking I was too scared to walk to the bus-stop in the dark, which I wasn't. I've never been afraid of the dark, not even as a small child. At that point when I stopped running I took the time to look behind me. Not surprisingly I didn't see anything. Nothing. No ship, no Triangle, no wind, and the trees were as still as could be since there was no wind.
I'm not gonna say I know for sure that it was aliens. I don't and to surmise that with no further evidence would be kinda stupid in my eyes. What I do know is that I have no idea what it was and it WASN'T a conventional aircraft. I honestly don't know what It was, but I do know I have Never seen Anything like It nor have I since. That one experience has led me to believe in intelligent life outside of this planet. I can't say it Was aliens. I can say I Think it was, because I have no other explanation for it.
So.....what do YOU believe? Do YOU think we're alone in the universe? Or do YOU think there is far more out there then we could ever dream is possible?
Are you sure about that? I can't find anything about a 16.1 billion year old star being found, and I also can't find anything saying we've been able to acuratly calculate the age of a star since the 1930s. As far as I can tell, the oldest star we've ever found is about 13.2 billion years old, which puts it inside the estimated age of the universe. http://www.physorg.com/news98033554.html http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/070510_oldest_star.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HE_1523-0901
Yeah..I guess. Either way, just think about it:..it would take 13 billion years to reach this galaxy [or where it was] from our galaxy if we would travel at lightspeed. Insane numbers...
Like you I have been unable to confirm what I said. There doesn't seem to be any record of the article that i can find. I remember it dates back to the 70's and that may be why. If I do find anything about it I'll post it here. In the meantime ... are you a dabbler in astronomy like i am? I like the physics behind it.
evidence of extra terrestrial life can be found pretty much everywhere around the globle. from cave paintings to destroyed cities in south america. even escavated cities from before antiquity in india that register rediation readings along with vitrification in the rocks ( rocks turning to glass { which only happens in extreme extreme heat AE nuclear weapons} )... but anyone has the freedom right now to research all this freely online... do it and the info will astound you and make u see a clear picture that there is alot of info out there that is not really something that they teach you as you grow up. from what ive read and pictures ive seen honestly our own human origens are tied to the stars. even more earie is some refferances that there are other humans out in space and that we are not native to this planet... info that could make poeple even doubt religion and what not. anycase and to those who say if there is extra terrestrial life out they why wont they come out and make contact with us?... common now be honest as to the current metality of our own planet who would want us in space? were no where near rdy. we cant put our own current technology to use effectively for the greater good of our planet / species what makes you think we should be handed down even more powerful tech... instead of unibomers in office buildings wed have egomaniac humans blowing up stars. =D anycase i gtg back to work. times up on my break. =/
Noobshot. Line breaks, punctuation and spelling often helps put your point across more effectively. I'd be more than willing to debate the issue with you but first I need to understand you.
Every time i think about the concept of a first contact with alien life. I get reminded of Jimbo and Ned from south park. Look out, it's coming right for us. *BANG BANG*. I believe there is life on other planets. Do i believe that we will ever come into contact with "intelligent" life?. Maybe, Probably not in my or my childrens lifetimes. Much more chance of the first extraterristrial life discovered being microbial or bacterial rather that complex bio organisms. But who knows. I am more than willing to be proven wrong. Maybe the the reason we haven't had any form of contact yet is becuase we really are not that interesting to another civilisation advanced enough to travel between stars or galaxies. I mean we are basically one step above clubs and stone axes compared to the technology needed for that sort of exploration. Why any self respecting "alien" would want to meet a species hell bent on destroying each other is beyond me. Maybe when humanity finally figures out that killing each other for no other reasons other than territory, ego etc we might finally be on the road to real progress but until that happens i don't hold out much hope. The truth is out there correct, But it is a truth so wildly different i doubt if humans puny minds can even comprehend it.
Did anyone ever consider this. That we have not been visited because other civilizations might be on the same level of technology that we are. Our galaxy is approximately 4.5 billion years old, about as old as the Earth itself. Look how far we've come in that time. Homo Sapiens are on Earth maybe 50,000 years and only the last four thousand or so is recorded history. As far as space is concerned ... fifty years and we've only just found the first 'Earthlike' planet 20 light years away. Could be they 'just' found ours.
Uvah
yea i was on a 15 min break and it just typed it on a quick fly.
and yes im sure there are other civs out there on our same tech lvl and forget them contacting us let alone visiting us. now then about being visited the evidence around the globle points to a "hell yes". is it wide spread info to the general public that would be no. i seriously doubt that any extraterrestrial civ would make any highly documented public appearance to a planet that goes to war for the most simplest of reasons. on top of this all the fanatical religious poeple who have been brainwashed into only believeing they are they only life in the universe will have their world turned upside down. add to the mix those who arent even aware of the extra info that those who have been privilaged to even meet ET's have stated that even some of these CIVs are humanoid and could pass for a regular human on this planet... of coarse that would imply that theres a whole Volume of missing history that we currently have no idea about.... so yea right now a official greetting would cause large scale pandemonium on this planet. but luckly with the internet that we have so intelligently created allows us to look at all the different facets of info scattered around the global and within our own limited recorded history to see that we definitely have alot of discreptancies and when u start putting the pieces together shows that our own origens have quite a tale yet to be told.
You typed this on e on a quick fly too.
Yea, slow down on the ayahuasca also, it makes it hard for your fingers to hit the right keys!
Yeah, I find the physics very interesting too. The coolest part of physics is astrophysics
I did some more research, and while I couldn't find anything specific, I did find an older article (not quite from the 70s) that at the time the oldest star found was estimated to be ~12-18 billion years old. It seems that the older method of dating stars was very inaccurate. You need a cluster of stars, and you basically guess its age based on the properties (luminosity, size, etc) of the surrounding stars in the cluster. The newer method, used to date the star I posted about above, uses the decay of uranium and thorium (because they have very long half lives) to calculate the age, and is much more accurate.
Reply to KYOGRE12. I believe atoms can be smashed, as we currently do in particle accelerators, resulting in subatomic particles. One of those subatomic particles, I think it is a quark, has been occasionally evidenced and appears to travel at or above the speed of light. It then disappears, absorbed it appears as energy by another subatomic particle. As an atom is smashed much of the matter is converted to energy, either heat or light. The energy waves do not disappear but much of them are absorbed. We do not know how to convert energy directly into matter but we do smash atoms resulting in energy creation which, when absorbed by other particles, increases energy in the absorbing particles often resulting in loss or gain of electrons and that is a form of creating different matter. Stars do something similar with heat and pressure. Either way matter is changed, "destroying" what it was and "creating" what it is. The total amount of matter (visible and dark) and energy (visible and dark) has not changed.
I have what some would call a strange and simplistic view of the Universe we live in today. Actually every piece of my belief has been proposed by one physicist, astrophysicist or another though none that I know of has the same overall view. It is:
The universe is shaped like a Manta ray, wings included. It is not round and never was. There was no big bang; the universe is much like a thick woolen cap. Lay it flat and fully extended; it will begin to invert itself beginning at the crown. It always was and will be. No beginning and no end.The so-called noise of the Big Bang is actually the noise created at the horizon of curving asthe universe inverts. We see the Universe expanding very rapidly. It is only our perspective of the outside of the"Hat" moving in the opposite direction of the inverted portion, inside if you will. The "Hat" is notflat; there are differences in thickness. Think of the Manta ray.The Universe cannot expand beyond it's existence; it is "bounded". Other universes can overlap our Universe's existence in the 4th dimension but parts of their existences will benon-existent to our Universe and vice-versa.The other universes exist outward to infinity in all 3 dimensions. Almost all of them non-existentto our Universe and we can never travel to or see almost all of them. Only by faith and mathematicscan we believe they are there. Always cling to your faith.
Connection to and interaction with other sentient species has occurred, is occurring and will continue to occur
to infinity but it is new with each inversion as no living thing can survive passing through the horizon of curvature
where whole galaxies are smashed and rearranged into something new.
No, the universe is like a strawberry. The centre is empty and pithy, the middle is fleshy where all the maggots live, and the outside has seeds for new growth.
Ok science world, you and your bloody ignorant Hawking et al, answer me this:
If the distant reaches of the universe we see all around us look like the earliest part of the universe, and the ageing looks to be equal, isn't that making a dangerous and false assumption that we are the centre of the universe?
If we were not the centre of the universe, then distant galaxies although appearing old because of distance, would be different ages. Some on one side would be older then the ones on the other side as they would be nearer the centre of the 'big bang'.
They do not. So, brain dudes, you need a new theory...
Oh, and another thing. If all the galaxies are moving away from each other, that would mean galaxies near the centre would hardly be moving at all and the ones near the outside moving at infinite speed.
Also, by definition of expansion, the actual particles themselves would be expanding away from each other too, which would mean near the centre being infinitely small and dense and near the the outside being infinitely large and sparse.
We do not observe any of this.
Hum...
You make some good points!
Best regards,Steven.
In fact excellent points. Galaxies surrounding us are moving not in one direction but in many directions. Some are moving toward us as in the case of Andromeda which is slated to collide with ours in about two million years and her light is shifted blue, meaning the light coming from her is being compressed. On the other hand galaxies that are moving away from us have light that is shifted towards the red because it is being stretched out.
There is no 'real' center of the universe as far as our perception is concerned. You'd have to 'step outside' this one and look in in order to perceive the position of the home galaxy. But the problem with that is once you get 'outside' so much time has passed that the position the galaxy was in when you left is no longer the same depending on how long it took you to get outside, what direction you took and whether or not you actually make it 'outside' simply because we do not know if there is an outside or which direction to take to get there.
Expansion affects only the large scale objects in the universe, i.e. galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Individual particles such as those that comprise the human body and the world around us are held together by mutual attraction. This is where the strong nuclear force comes in. This is the one that binds all particles together unlike the weak nuclear force that is responsible for decay. On a macroscopic scale it is easy to see the expansion because of the sheer size of the objects we are looking at. What is not easily understood is the rate of inflation that is seen at greater distances. It would appear that the universe is speeding up.
to be continued.
Another reason aliens don't visit Earth... they tune into our radio and hear Ke$ha and that little twerp Justin Bieber.
Two good reasons to stay away.
That and curried cabbage.
Yes, you can smash atoms in a particle collider and get smaller particles (like quarks) but that is not what happens in a star. What happens in a star is nuclear fusion. Two atoms (initially hydrogen for a star) are fused together because of the immense temperature and pressure. Fusing atomic nuclei lighter than iron releases energy, while fusing nuclei heavier than iron requires the absorbtion of energy. Energy can be created without matter being converted into it. No protons, neutrons, or electrons are destroyed. Nuclear Fusion
It is not quarks that you are thinking of. Quarks are the particles that make up protons and neutrons (among other things). They do not travel at the speed of light. The theoretical particle that can travel faster than light is the tachyon. It is massless, and can only travel at speeds greater than the speed of light. Due to some complex physics, it is impossible for it to travel any slower. For any particle that has a mass, it is impossible to reach or exceed the speed of light. There is no experimental evidence of tachyons; they are purely hypothetical at the moment.
It should also be noted that particle colliders do not convert matter into energy. They convert one type of matter (like protons, neutrons, etc) into its constituents (quarks, etc). Assuming you can find everything, the initial mass should equal the final mass.
Uvah already addressed this, but not everything is getting farther away from us. As he mentioned, the Andromeda galaxy will collide with the Milky Way at some distant point in the future (billions of years). There's a lot of very complicated math behind the expansion of the universe, but it operates only on very, very large scales, like galactic supercluster scales.
'Andromeda' is not a distant galaxy, but at 2.2 million light years part of our local group. Distant galaxy would mean up to 13 billion light years...
2.2 billion light years is pretty distant to me. A small slice of the observable universe.
To KYOGRE12. Quoting you:
Energy can be created without matter being converted into it. No protons, neutrons, or electrons are destroyed. Nuclear Fusion
Sorry but energy must be created from something; if not matter, what? Heat and pressure are both forms of energy acting on matter. Also in the particle collider heat and light are both emitted upon collision, thus mass in = mass out + energy released. Otherwise E=MC2 is not valid.
Thanks for the Tachyon info, I could not come up with the name. It has not been directly observed, a likely impossibility, but physicists do now have recordings purported to be Tachyon tracks. Perhaps now a bit more than speculation.
