Back in the day I LOVED the original "Syndicate". After X-Com it was my favorite squad based combat game. It seems there's either a reboot or a sequel in the works. Check out this info I found on GameSpot Here. As long as they don't f'k it up we could be in for some old school tactical goodness. Here's hoping.
Okay takeing bets!
Im thinking its going to be a RPG with squad based thrid person combat like Mass Effect.
Whats yours?
(Oh, its not going to be anything LIKE syndicate sorry)
First Person Shooter. With basic squad controls.
Syndicate rocked! It was a mainstay of mine in the old Amiga days....that mini gun was awesome! I'd be interested in any sequel....tho a FPS would ruin it i think...
Is there no room for the top down view of the original?
Sadly, no-one seems willing to make top-down turn-based tactical games anymore.
Imagine if someone could have made a huge fallout-3 sized game but with an action point turn-based tactical type engine.
Here comes another FPS with an artifact title and no soul. Yay.
It's what the market demands nowadays. Like it or not.
God I f'kin hope Not. Don't curse it, man....let's at least Hope for the best until we get some kind of shit-tastic news like that.
Browser-based FPS with micro-transactions.
LoL NoooOooOoooOOOOOoooooo
Disapointment makes me more depressed than just starting off depressed. Its all about manging the depression.
Its a Squad Based Depression Managment game...
OH GOD WHY OH WHY CAN'T THEY STOP RUINING MY FAVOURITE SERIES!?
WHY?! ;__;
What gets me is....
Don't they realize that when they pick up a title to do a reboot....we want to see a REBOOT!
The reason fans of a series 10+ years old are still fans is because of the gameplay!
They call them remakes, but they are actually reboots. And they're 'wyld and craseh' because who doesn't want to play X-Com.. EFF PEE ESS?!
AMIRITE!?
*cry*
Yeah, it's not a reboot, it's to sucker up new fans: and since console FPS are basically making moeny on thier own now...might as well mkae a few bucks while you get new young kids who'll get hooked and buy the next 6 Syndicate games they got planned.
Know the difference. It could save your life.

For some reason they have a major hardon on doing reboots, keeping nothing but a name. Try to suck in as many as the old fans as possible based on the false promises of a "remake", whilst getting new fans with "streamlining", "reimagining" and "spicing it up".
After the announcement X-com will be a bioshockesqe shooter, my expectations are somewhere in the Marianas trench.
agreed.. and after watching videos I am even more discouraged...
That's what I think too. Just worried they may try and take the squad out though and leave us with just another FPS.
I wish but all developers now seem to think this won't sell. At least that's what it seems like. I'll be shocked (but pleased) if it's top down like the original.
Syndicate (the original game) and Crusader: No Remorse were/are two of my all-time favourite games ever!
Man I hope they don't screw this up........sigh
Call yourself a syndicate fan yet you’re 12+ months late to the news?
I played one of those games. It was called Republic Commando, and it was freaking awesome. I'm not *that* angered about this since I never played Syndicate, just Syndicate Wars, although I do hope I can call down the Satellite Rain or blow shit up with Graviton Guns.
I prefer the terms "reboot" (remake of old classic) & "reformat" (throw the baby out with the bathwater and start from scratch)
Me. I like FPSes. I never played XCom or any of its spinoffs.
Lets just get this straight.
This new game from 2K is called AlienShock. Not XCom. Xcom is simply a marketing thing. Its AlienShock.
BioShock... with aliens.
And heres some evidence btw.
XCom stands for Extratrestial combat. I.e. fighting things that arn't from terra or earth.
XCom is a mordern style name based on late 80s culture for 'action' based orginisations (X-Men being a great example).
AlienShock is set in the 50s, just like BioShock. If an orginsation was setup in the 50s to research and fight aliens it would be called something like "the Institue for Threats of Unknown Origins" or ITUO.
Xcom does NOT fit with the setting (which they have a THIRD game using a similar setting - i.e. very little research to do).
All the games use the same weapon mechanics and interfaces. Remember you always had allies in BioShock.
Its just AlienShock.
