Looks like the next Sims game will be a medieval kingdom simulator:
The Sims Medieval
This might be the first Sims game that catches my interest. A medieval setting could offer lots of interesting gameplay.
As long as we can buy wenches with livestock it's all good. Hmm, so your Dad owns you and your sister? Does he need any sheep or cattle? I can make him a good offer. In fact, you two might as well start packing now..
lol you know it's funny, because I constantly tell my wife she's my property and that she's bought and paid for. I bought the engagement ring and at our wedding her father walked her down the isle and then "gave her away" to me. In reality that age old tradition of the father "giving away" the bride actually symbolizes a transfer of ownership from the father to the husband. Isn't that Awesome I love traditions...mwhahahaha.
P.S. just because I live in Florida don't go thinking you two will be getting any sun. Don't pack bathing suits, pack knee-pads.

I always like throwing that one back at people who claim they want to defend a "traditional definition of marriage." They don't seem to realize just what the traditional definition actually is.

Yeah, me too . Also notice in the Real "Traditional" wedding vows, the man promises to Love, Honor, and Cherish, and the woman promises to Love, Honor, and Obey...hehe. I couldn't get my wife to go for that one, so I said "then I guess we're not having a Traditional wedding huh?"..lol.
Never got into the Sims games b/c oh look im making my avatar watch TV and now he needs to shower.... pathetic.
But in this you can go on quests and conquer other kingdoms. AWESOME!!!

There is questing in Sims 3 actually, especially with World Adventures and Ambitions...although I would imagine there'll be killing things in the newer title
Maybe. I mean I am a Sims fan, lost me a bit with 3 though, so it's not like a require a lot. I can see this title going in a great direction, or maybe going in a not so great direction depending on what they do with it. After all, we're talking about a company that comes up with great concepts (Spore) and then doesn't deliver (Spore).
I gotta say I never thought Spore sounded like it'd be the stellar hit everyone thought it would be. It sounded like they were trying too hard to get a lot of different stuff in there.
As they say, you can do one thing great, or a lot of things poorly. I never really had anything to apply that statement to until Spore.
It really does fit perfectly dosn't it.
Spore is a really great concept as Nesrie says. I would love to play 'civ' where you start with such humble beginings and really EVOLVE your way through the game. As it stands Spore was just a flash 'bigger fish' minigame, a poor asian furry grind MMO, a RTS flash game then another RTS flash game then a demo of a cutsy little-girl friendly casual space sim.
That last part had some interesting bits like seeding worlds and collecting specimins and a real tech tree but like I say, it was like a demo of some asian 'creature game' definately not worth the DRM, lol.
The "traditional definition of marriage." that is being defended is one in which the marriage can naturally produce offspring (as in children).
And if you really look at the Biblical definition of a marriage, they both own each other - and they are both a slave to each other.
I've always been a fan of "The Guild" series which is quite depressing; see Aractain comment:
So, I'm really looking forward to seeing how The Sims Medieval turns out. So long as it has some actual ACTION and some real ADVENTURE I'll buy it, especially if there are any halfway decent Kingdom options and it's an open world. Time will tell if this game is any good or if it'll flop.

Definitely not a typical Sims game. I am hoping this storyline they are talking about changes though so it doesn't get stale after too long.

Yes the storyline being the same would be annoying. The amount of clothes avalible sounded pretty low however, I mean have you seen TERA? But it does sound fun.
(If I play this game does this in some way reduce my manliness or e-peen rating?)
I actually meet a whole lot of girls that like computer games. I dunno... I've never been particularly attracted to girls because they play games, and no girl I've had a relationship with has ever been much of a gamer. Still, I always wanted a nerd girlfriend, but instead I get a lot of attractive cool types, which I still find vaguely surprising.
In many ways I think girls are actually nerdier than boys are, just in different ways. I think, for example, a girl with a collection of ball-jointed dolls is pretty much on par with a guy having a Warhammer army, and they probably cost the same, too. This is coming from a man with a Warhammer army, mind you.
Anyways, back on topic. I like the Sims, so having (what I assume is) a standalone expansion pack is a breath of fresh air. I'll be curious about how this pans out.

Well... If you are now a girl, you must have been something else before? So ... you have fun with your new found self. Nothing wrong with transgenders. Lots of people into that.
My comment on the other hand was about how Sims was 'marketed' as essentially 'playing with your dolls again' (however much I want to become Lord Helment I just can't handle my Schwartz well enough). Telling other people (stupid males) that you play Sims would gain you nothing but derision.
Thus, I am thinking on the fact that I might end up playing a Sims title and how that would effect me.
And the hot shemales.
Heh, I've been playing the Sims games since the first one and I get flack for it as a woman. Screw em. It's a fun series although I think the last one, Sims 3, missed the mark on some level. It just didn't click with me.
Yeah the clothes don't sound great, and if its like SIms 3, they'll give you a barebone warddrobe and then try to charge you 10 bucks for more in the online store. I am not really digging the potential short-term nature of the idea. I mean one of my favorite features of the Sims is the fact that you can hook up two sims, have a baby and by god that bay looks like mom and dad and when an adult your sitting thinking wow, they sure grew up differently than i thought but still look like that kid i knew days ago.
I don't mind if they throw in stories and quests and fantasy, dear lord i love fantasy, I just hope they actually remember what is great about the Sims.

Oh man, the monetizing of everything is killing me. I'm reluctant to get Sims 3 because of all the bullshit expansions I know they'll release, and I'd rather get 'em all in one fell swoop at a decent price.
The neighborhood gameplay does seem quite nice. As a man, though, I still only really care about building my lesbian sorority house. I'm vaguely worried that they've cut out the really fun stuff.
The expansions for Sims 3 are a lot better than the ones for 2. I've been very happy with em, but I'm also sure they'll never stop coming.
Until 4 is out.
Hah, they're only on 2 right? There is no way they are done with it yet. I mean I had all the Sims 1 + expansions minus one, and I think all of Sims 2 + expansions except one too but maybe 2 of the stuff packs I picked up for around 7 bucks at Circuit City before it went belly up. With 3, the DLC, stuff packs, expansions... it just turned me off from the series in a major way.
The DLC & stuff packs are largely ignorable. I bought some because I felt like it and played way too much of the game (still do) but *shrug*. It's just eye candy, doesn't really do anything for the experience.
The expansions are great though. In Sims 2 the only expansions I really felt added to the experience as a whole were University and Open for Business, everything else was so limited in what it did. I can't wait for the next one for 3.
I picked up Sims 3 out of curiousity (and just a disk check - kudos to EA on that one). Was playing Lord of the Rings Online for close to 6 months exclusively until Sims 3. I can see how this game gets addictive.
