lol im being a post whore tonight but the more i play the more i wanna add.
Why dont you place the Battlships as capital ships as you can add 9 ships per row.
Say make the Battlships all available as you go leading to dread/carrier then MOM then after that final as a titan all through massive research of many different systems.
put cruisers then lead it up to say t2 cruiser and battlecruisers and up to t2 battlecruisers. all same way unlocked through research so to simulate skilling in those areas.
Leave frigs as frigs and scale them up from a few basic frigs up to assualt frigs then maybe ewar frigs and so on. remember the most popular frigs are the condor and the kestral nothing like a kessy. Oh i would love to see our favs the nasty stealth bomber.
oh and your moa model the shape is great but its much to large a drake was much larger than a moa. Also might want to consider moa was not one of caldaris most favorite ships for use amongst t1 cruisers due to its crappy fitting. Like the ferox it was the black ship of the group. consider the Caracal as the idea cruiser for caldari. A good LRM would be the Cerb as it was always known for its extreme range bombardment as an LRM
I am learning im real new at modding im still trying to piece it all together ive been spending alot of time chatting with Soase-Mealstrom who i call MR M hopefully i can keep learning till im more useful there. What i have done was play with ones already written to say alter base shield stats and modify some functions and so on alot of it is pretty explanitory but to create them from scratch no idea. But i am willing to learn as much as i can.
Is frigatepsilongrange.entity the file for the drake? Is it possible to rename the files relative to the ship they are?

Tengu is the hardest ship type they could do as they have so many variations of t3 ships. Where do you stop and what do you select. I would think t3 ships would be the first to go out of the window for the mod and stick to more solid state ships. Besides so many better ships than t3 ships
Oh so far ive encountered the ships made the models look great What i have noticed is that the Erebus model looks nice but is far far far far to small. I recommend holding off on titans for a while and saving them for last tbh. working from small up. The reason i say this is Titans will be the hardest ships to implement. Also the drake looks fantastic it brought back alot of eve memories. But there is an issue with the way the shield shows as it only covers the back half of the model.
The drake i believe should get a cruiser style role not a LRM frig role as it was not a ship known for high damage but its super tanking ability.a drake could get near Battlship tanks on it. Early on it was the noob ship of choice as it took little skill to fly and was formidable at a low cost.
The Rohk or ROCK as most call it like the mythical thunderbird is a very diverse ship its primary role was to give caldari a Gun platform ship. The role of this ship is a tough one but mostly its used as a sniper with extreme railgun range second only to the apoc. Prior to its enhancment it used to be the king of long range sniping. While railguns are often the weakest form of sniping they were very effective. This ship can also tote a very strong shield rank if not setup for sniping it was capable of using torpedoes only 4 luanchers instead of its 8 gun turret slots but if setup with a decent shield tank and blasters the short range highest damage weapons in the game it was a dangerous boat. This ship should get a role reconsideration and much more love and considered for a capital ship. Just like the Raven. The raven is by far the caldari flagship.
The engines on the heron are backwards but the model looks excellent.
The Scorpion also known as the Scorp was a pure ECM boat this ship was almost useless for firepower couldnt kill shit, but many people would use them as lure ships becasue it could boast a nasty tank for shielding having 8 mid slots to work with. It was almost always called primary in any battle due to its jamming capabilities not a ship u want jamming half your fleet while in a fight. IT was sometimes in rare cases used as a nos/nuet boat and was a support ship. This ship would definatly make a good caldari support cap.
In research for the nature of caldari i would do little to 0 research for armor or hull mabye focus hull on hull repair only but focus all on sheilds as that would stay true to caldari nature. Shield tanks were known to be some of the best tanks ever as they were constantly fighting regen unlike and armor tank but once a shield was gone on a caldari ship it was done.

for the first row of 9 caldari frigs you could work its like this
for
1.heron: i dont know if you through research or a ability can upgrade this ship to a buzzard but an option
2.condor: upgradable to interceptor class raptor or crow class super fast low armor tackles ships in grav well
3.merlin: this has assualt frig upgrades i would use those as part of the 9 ships
4.kestral: this has a stealth bomber upgrade when t2
now here is where id use research to give t2 options i would require certain weapons upgrades and amount of units of military research so on
5.stealth bomber: here is the tricky part they switched these from long range cruise missles which are classed as LRM and would have firepower of a capital to shorter range torpedos either could be used but for more up to day torps would be accurate dunno if you want to go into bombing. But these ships cloak. (note as ive heard there are issues with cloaking and can only be done with something similiar to phaseing dunnow how to approach this)
6.harpy or hawk: or use both these are the assualt frig class using the merlin hull design hawk is a pure missle frig and the harpy is a rail/blaster ship either or
7.kitsune:The kit was an ewar frig very fragile but used for ecm jamming mostly had to get closer but due to agility was very functional.
8.Cormorant: the destroyer class a step up from frig designed as a frig killer more damage more guns a destroyer could fit up to 8 small weapons so it was formidable for any race.
9.Flycatcher: An inderdictor class ship, this ships design was off the destroyer hull but being t2 was stronger less armed but often much faster was capable of using in 0.0 space the inderdiction sphere which allowed all ships within the bubble to be warp jammed and unable to leave the area by warping or jumping out the sight of an inderdiction sphere brought fear to any podpilots mind.
these are some ideas im throwing your guys way i will keep adding as i go i have ideas for research too id like feedback from the team to see what you guys think.

for the cruiser group of 9 ships
1.Caracal: the all purpose missle cruiser very popular has a t2 variant
2.Blackbird: An all purpose ecm boat not very strong all around but affordable has exceptional recon t2 variants
3.Moa: the ugly duckling and not a popluar ship but capable of missle and rail/blaster use has a t2 variant aswel an a heavey dicter version
4.Cerberus:A t2 variant of the caracal a nasty ship a solid tank and extreme long rang for a cruiser a pure LRM cruiser packing a wallop to be feared by cruisers and any frigs. due to the accuracy of its missles this ship is often used to pick of interceptors closing to tackle.
5.Eagle:The ugly ducklings nasty big brother this t2 variant of the moa boasts the most accurate and longest range sniping capabilities of any cruiser class period this ship is often used to protect battleship sniper groups from small fast ships closing in on them. It also has capabilities to be setup for close range combat as wel using blasters giving it a nasty punch and getting nicknamed the Beagle for blaster eagle. It can be set to tank pretty well for a cruiser. This ship is primarly a gun boat drifting from the caldari's missles away tendencies.
Now i branch into a large cruiser class called Battlcruisers these are often cheap and good solid ships for the stage from cruiser to battleship
6.Ferox:This was caldari's first battle cruiser a right piece of junk later replaced by the drake this hunk of junk doesnt do anything well it tends to have lousy tank and not enough missile racks to be effective. the only real exception of this ship is its damn cheap and its hull is used for some of caldari's greatest ships the command ships.
7.Drake: already made for this mod with an excellent accurate skin. this ship is a well known ship not for its damage capabilities having no real bonus for that but known for its exceptional tank this ship can take a huge pounding and is not costly not the best ship in 1v1 situation but capable none the less. But get caught in a group of these and talk about getting pecked to death by a pack of chickens damage adds up quickly.
here we branch into a special tech 2 varient of the ferox the command ships this comes in 2 varient and i wil describe both but i think out the two ships the nighthawk should be the selected version as it was a better and more fun ship.
8.Nighthawk/vulture:This is the command ship varient of the ferox hull these ships while both t2 and built off of the same hull are completly different in stature. The vulture is a command ship through and through its a turret platform a gunboat so its capabilities here are weak its damage output poor but where this ship shines is an exceptional tank no ship of its class can compare to the tank of a vulture it also has great fleet bonus capabilities using command modules and links to enhance other pilots and thier abilites but a very boring ship to fly and almost never gets on kill mails and also due to its tank doesnt get called primary often.
Ahh we get to the nighthawk this sleek black ferox is just death incarnate this ship boasts exceptional missle capabilities from range to damage and a tank to support it not alot can be said about this ship to describe it other than be weary of it when its in your gravty well this ship will wreak havok on anything its shooting at and can take alot of abuse in the process. It has command module capabilities just like the vuture but on a much smaller scale sacrificing command for death and damage. This is a true Caldari missile boat.
Last but not least i save my personal fav the recons two blackbird hull designs that in tech 2 form are some of the most feared ships ever to cross new eden.
9.Rook/Falcon: The rook is the uber long range super strong jamming ship capable of putting out more jamming strength than a scorpion ecm attack battlship this ship has decent damage being able to use 5 heavy missle launchers but its ability lies in jamming the opponent. Later the roles were reversed in the falcon and rook and the falcon was nerfed due to endless whining by people who couldnt handle dealing with them
now we get to the Falcon this ship while having almost no damage output totes the infamous covertops cloak being able to fly around invisable and appear anywhere and having exceptional jamming capabilties its a fear to see on any battle field being able to disable half a fleet in one go at ranges father away than the enemy can return fire. to deal with these ships took alot of cunning and intelligence on the battle feild but due to its very weak nature these ships could not take hits and if were caught off guard died very easily. Later due to thier excellence they were nerfed and thier jamming strength reduced and the range of thier jamming dropped to force them closer but any solid pilot with good ecm skils could still jam a fleet easily at 50k range.
Here is my input plenty to look over about the cruiser classes and they can easily be controlled by research some will have to be chosen over others and figured out how to impliment but i hope u consider this list i did leave out the heavy interdicter as it well is more designed for tackling capital ships and has tanks that takes a fleet to destroy didnt think it would fit in this game aswel as t3 ships i left out known as strategic cruisers as they have 4 variations of the same ship and a game like sins cannot really capture the nature of the t3 cruiser and those ships wont really work with this imho.

here is my 9 capital class ships now this group spans a bunch of classes from Freightor, to battlship to carrier to dread to mom to titan.
ok i wil begin with the Battleship class as this is the most popular and the ships i definatly see as more capital ships than cruisers in this game.

4.Golem:This is the maruader class or t2 variant of the caldari raven it is a mean ship boasting a superior tank and double the damge of its missle bays only needing 4 missle bays unlike the ravens 6 it puts out a hell of a wallop but this ship is extremly expensive costing almost the price of 10 ravens. It tank is second to none and can take a serious beating and the empty slots allow for nuet or nos giving it cap/antimatter warfare capabilities.
4a.Caldari Navy raven: This raven is a supped up raven often a very popular ship it is a raven with slightly more tank but has 1 more missle bay so its output for dps is higher if the golem doesnt seem to fit i would ask this be considered.
now i branch into what eve considered Capital class ships
5.Charon: This old water hauler was transformed into an industrial capital ship later and is a huge slow moving golaith barely able to use stargates this hulk can haul anything and is the choice for setting up starbases or POS stations while often in this game cruisers end up with the starbase ship i suggest it be used in its rightful place as a cap. While this ship has no weapons it has quite a bit of bulk and can take alot of damage. It is slow moving but capable. I suggest this cap be cheap very cheap and used as colony ships in the game this is often the first cap ship anyone gets in eve. This ship also should double as the resource taking ship.
Now we get into the next stage of cap ships
6.Phoenix: This massive dreadnaught is one of Caldari's answer to the threat of invasion by starbases. Its primary role is that of base bashing or attacking other capital ships. It uses capital class torpedoes and has a might shield tank. Though the phoenix is not the weakest it is not the most favored of dreads to have. IT can boast some of the best damage to starbases of any dread next to the Moros. Slow moving and unable to jump without a cynosural field dreads posses a seige mode that locks them in place for long duratoins but brings thier damge up exceptionally high while increasing thier tanking tremendously. These ships should be only obtainable through alot of research.
7.Chimera:The carrier it is what it says a fighter boat this ship is capable of fielding many fighters and doing tremendous damage to ships of all classes it is a support ship as wel being able to heal and support the fleet the spider tank of many carriers was feared due to the ability for them to heal themselves while outputting a lot of damage. Carriers also were unable to jump from gate to gate and needed a cynosural field to jump to. These ships were often used by pod pilots to jump behind enemy lines and bring in ships for pilots and resources needed to wage war.
This next group is known as supercapitals they are a whole different ball of wax
8.Wyvern:This MOM or mothership was the same as a carrier it had all the abilities of a carrier except it could feild bombers these special fighters are anti capital and are exceptionally nasty capable of decimating a capital ship like a bunch of mice eating some cheese. These mother ships could field huge groups of ships in its bay for players to bring behind enemy lines with them and could also field fighters and drones much like a carrier. Moms were ewar proof giving them an advantage no other capital class has you cannot stop these ships by ordinary means. indertiction craft are the only way to stop them from jumping away or warping out they cannot be jammed or disrupted in anyway. They are simply immune to ewar. These ships were super expensive and came from only the best pod pilots. feared by all and the kill of one was coveted. This ship would dent the wallets of any who undertook its construction.
9.Leviathan: The ulitmate in caldari space ship design the Titan class this ship was not only huge it was devistatingly powerful. Early on these ships toted the now nerfed doomday weapon which was a huge area effect weapon. This weapon could be used 1 time every hour but any caught in its blast would often find themselves dead right quick. This large Aoe blast could take out all ships except battlships tanked for its damage type and cap ships anything smaller died instantly. Later due to the unfairness of this weapon as they never expected allainces to build up to 15 of these ships. Imagine 15 doomsdays going off in a row nothing would live at all except the titans an ultimate weapon. This was changed. The titans new Doomsday was a directed energy weapon specific to the race it was a single shot weapon that could instantly kill any ship but a mothership or another titan. possibly a dreadnaught in seige mode could survive. while titans cannot use fighters or bombers like other carrier class ships they can also wield dreadnaught turrets or launchers so they can pack a huge punch as well as thier doomsday weapons. They are extremly hard to kill the only thing that can really stand up to a titan is a station. And not always. Its all dependant on how the station is put together or POS. The titan also has a special ability as it uses the cynosural field like the other major capital ships it can create a jump bridge and using its anitmatter it can jump a fleet with it of any ships near it. SO it can instantly bring its support with it. This is one of the only ships capable of doing this. This is a max research ship IMHO its endgame it should cost a fortune and it should be only obtainable when all research is done. While it is possible to see a few of these ships ingame on one team it shouldnt be common to see more than 1 and when it is seen it should be feared.
ok i added my 2 cents again more like my 20cents but nevertheless i left out black ops ships cause welll cloaking is an issue and black ops are for cloaking and recon ships they are very specialised ships and i dont really see a place for them in this mod to many other ships do the same role.

@doomser1 - thx for playing the mod so far the work myfist and myself have done is not anything close to a complete package. From the get go I warn that this is very much a work in progress. I put it out there that I am FAR from a professional mod maker. Just a 24 yo dood who likes Sins and has played EvE since it went live in 2003.
So models fly backwards engines dont point the right direction and all too often ships are way out of size ratio. To this I say, half the time I get 6 new gray hairs just getting a model in game, getting a model and a texture is nearly a stroke. Getting guns figured out is meh.
Basically I had a plan while starting this,
create a community to help work on this mod - failed
produce models so that others might polish them up - failed
have others write .ent files so i could focus on models - failed
So I work on this when I want to get frustrated, which as of late, hasn't been often, lolz. This is the 3rd or 4th EvE mod attempt and I can see why they die out. The undertaking is so huge!!!! There is almost to much EVE lore to sort thru, so I dont mean to sound down, just a tad frustrated I have never modded or modeled in my life, so im learning as I go, this very well may take a year or more to produce to a polished non beta release.

well good to hear your still at it. its endlessly frustrating im learning mods but i will help if you want. I am helping any mod i enjoy and can learn from i will be happy to consult and help where i can i am still like you learning but i dont mind working with .ent files and helping with ideas. This can be done having access to the eve models from the cleint is a huge huge factor. Not having to make them from scratch and having an expert like myfist0 involved helps alot. I think this can be done one little ship at a time. As you can see i how eve can easily be translated to the sins format. I believe skills and abilities and research are the easy part the hard part is putting it all together so ill do what i can and be happy to help ya. The R3DSKULL is onboard if your intrested i am doing some work testing and helping SoaSE-Mealstrom on his mod aswel. I am intrested in learning all around. Just think of it as fun learning experience and nothing has failed yet bro its just time consuming and remember its fun and not a job.
Start collecting assets from eve like voice and sound effects (clean with no music in background. Character pictures, icons, fonts and what ever else that would fit in the mod and I can get it in-game. I will be moving from Windows Live Sync to Live Mesh soon and we can start a Developer shared folder then. I can mod every single thing in SoaSE accept abilities and buffs are a bit of a problem but I need help getting all the info together.
Need to start at the beginning for me. How many races are we going to use and what there names? 6 races really pushes sins. 5 not bad 4 is better.

ok sounds good ive never attempted to pull anything from an eve client. you cant access the game itself without a paid sub but if everything is client side i would think it should be accessible..
Windows live mesh is that a place to upload all the work like a shared ftp of sorts?
Well unlike sins the ships don't have any voices that would relate to them. There is one computer that all pod pilots have but its universal says things like Warping and so on. There are plenty of sound effects.
There are 4 races. Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari. And a secret race noone sees called the Jove but that isnt really relavent there are sub factions Sansha, dread guiristas stuff like that.
i have been using the sins voices becuz eve has no voices..

I have a rather technical question that probably could be asked anywhere on the modding forum, but since it concerns working with an EVE model I thought it is best to ask it here. Besides, one more post will keep the thread fresh.
In short, what I've done so far, I have extracted an EVE ship (using Triexporter) and textured it with XSI. It is the Amarr battle-cruiser Profecy which is a mesh using one single texture for the entire surface. I am trying to the same now with the dreadnought Naglfar. However, this ship uses multiple texture files vor various parts of the ship. My question is: is it possible to select separately the various sections of the ship and then assign to each one a material with a texture? Or is the information of the ship-sub-components lost while converting the model with Triexporter into *.obj? I've seen that the battleship Appocalipse has been made SINS ready and it too uses multiple texture files. Perhaps somebody could give me a hint on how to proceed. I do not need detailed tutorials, as I've already benefited from some very helpful ones. Just a hint whether it is possible to select sub-objects or should I start working with polygon selections.

Yes you can assign multiple materials, see Creating a Second Set of Materials.
You can also download my models which have the XSI scene ready to export to see how I did it.
The multiple texture sheets do come with tri exporter but the channels need to be switched to use in Sins. See http://soase.weebly.com/texturing.html for Sins standards.

I may have some voices you could use, although I would need to know if SINS has any specific audio codecs or formats it uses.
Sins uses OGG Theora files for its audio.
Sins music is ogg format 2 channels at 128 kb/sec but the voice and effects are 1 channel or mono. If you try a voice or effect sound in stereo it will play over 1 speaker only. I pretty sure you can use mp3 or wav but you must specify the proper extension in the sound file.
