Stardock announced today that Bethesda Softworks’® titles, which include the 2008 Game of the Year, Fallout ® 3, and the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® are now available on Impulse, the digital download platform for PC games.
“Bethesda Softworks’ catalogue represents some of the most beloved video games ever made,” said Brad Wardell, CEO and president of Stardock. “We’re thrilled to add these titles to our catalogue.”

Elemental isn't showing up in there for some reason, it's never worked right with the tray app. My other games do though.
I would do two things.
First, contact the OBSE team and see if they have any ideas. Then also contact Stardock support or Zoomba on Twitter (he seems to be the one that packages these games I think). Stardock will indeed look at it.
Could be something as simple as the Impulse install setting a file to read only by mistake which keeps OBSE from working.
Oblivion uses GOO (see the product page). FO3 is still GFWL though so the script extender should work normally with it.
That is great news about Fallout 3, it is a shame about Oblivion though. I assume this situation is permanent?
So GOO prevents the use of mods? If so that is a very bad thing since that's what makes these games so great and still played to this day, the extensive mods. I would not be playing it again right now if not for mods (although I do have a couple dozen mods installed, none of them use the OBSE).
So no way to get the GOO version to accept mods? Or is there a reason why particular mods don't work?

The script extender patches the game's executable in memory (it's effectively a hack that injects new functions into the scripting engine at runtime). The GOO executable isn't going to be the same as that with nothing or with a different protection, so the existing OBSE can't modify it since it isn't written for it.
Non-SE mods should work just fine.
That GOO sounds like a right arsehole, stopping you messing with games that you own so you can investigate the DRM for security flaws....

I was going to say. I've used mods for other games before and I don't think they've ever really messed the main .exe. I am trying to think if MapMixer for UT does that.
Does Oblivion work on Vista. I was going to buy it a while back but I thought I heard that is not Vista compatible.
Oblivion without OBSE isn't worth playing imo. It's like buying a Sunfire, when a brand new Corvette was across the street for the same price.
Oblivion works in Vista, but it's easier if you don't install it under Program Files.
But since you can't use OBSE with the impulse version, I HIGHLY recommend you buy it from another vendor. If you like the basics of Oblivion, you'll love Oblivion on OBSE. OBSE isn't just a mod, it expands the game to a degree that just wasn't possible before. It allows you to do so much more.
You are as bad as I am. The only reason I ever uninstall this thing is for general system performance and to install other games. This bugger turned me on to RPG/Fantasy; up to that point it was shooters and RTS exclusively. You could also draw a line between this game back to the classic isometic games like Avernum, turn - based stuff like Gal Civ as well. Heavy stat - management RPG/Strategy stuff is my thing now, and it either occurs in a fantasy setting or space! I'm going through a time warp into isometic games of old and a turn - based fix right now.
Is bethesda planning on offering any of their non-shivering/non-knights of the 9 dlc's through stardock?
I've had oblivion for over a year now and still havent beat it. Reason why is the modding community is too fun
Oblivion runs on my 64bit vista just fine.
I actually did some modding on Oblivion when it first came out, Kals Weapon Rebalance it think it was. Redid all the weird weapon ranges, weights and damages. I think Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul runs an altered version of it (if you haven't tried OOO your missing an amazing mod also Martigen's Monster Mod)

I don't think it's so much that GOO is written to interfere with mods as Oblivion not being written with the future potential of GOO in mind and having to worry to make sure it works (especially since GOO probably didn't exist back then).
Stardock has a pro-mod outlook on things, look at Elemental.

Still looks like Impulse Oblvioners will want a non-GOO 'version' (i.e. some way of breaking it? I dunno, but there seems to be an incentive already).
This is awesome! But really, the only reason to play oblivion (and especially morrowind now) is for the mods. Not that there's anything wrong with that as there are some real kick ass mods for BOTH games! Ah, now i gotta go play morrowind again. Time to download a few gigs of mods!
Well, honestly it really depends on what mods you want to run actually. I have over 2 dozen mods installed including some really big ones like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and none of them require OBSE. Some of the other big ones I believe also don't require it like Mart's and Franco's.
So while I think it's a shame that Goo prevents the use of OBSE (and now I understand why since OBSE actually modifies the exe) it's really only a deal breaker if you are interested in mods that require OBSE. There are hundreds and hundreds that don't.
I can't play Oblivion without OOO. Too boring. There is nothing like taking a stroll in the northern mountains and getting ambushed by a Frost Titan, 4 Minitour Lords and 3 Gargoyles to get your heart pumping. By the way I had to run to Bruma and get the city and castle guard to help me. Ended up in a huge battle royale inside the city walls with bodies scattered all over the place.
It's a shame about the fact that you can't use SE. Not so much for Oblivion- that game's a turd, no matter how many mods you put on it, but rather for Morrowind.
Morrowind with some graphics mods and Morrowind Graphics Extender make that game look like it just came out a few years ago instead of 7 or 8 (can't remember at this time). I'm deciding if I'm willing to do without, because MWSE also has the Combat Enhanced mod that makes a great game even better.
Oblivion without FCOM was entirely boring for me. I was shocked at how disappointed I was after loving Morrowind so much, but OOO and MMM, and then later FCOM and 100+ other mods brought it back up to par. That said, if you're not using OBSE, you're limiting yourself greatly. There are tons of amazing mods that do require it, and they aren't your everyday mods.
I'm not meaning to say that you can't enjoy Oblivion without it, as I've heard people rave about vanilla Oblivion, but to me it's an unintelligent decision to limit yourself. Impulse is offering an inferior product in this case, so why buy it if there is a better version available?
I'm surprised they bothered putting DRM (in the form of GOO) on games this old.
You know I was thinking the same thing. The pirates got ahold of this game awhile ago. Then again, i think DRM after the first year or two of a game is pretty much pointless or an attempt by the publisher to get people to buy games twice or push them into sequels.
I totally agree. Very odd to worry about DRM at this stage on games this old.
HOWEVER I do see a bright side to it. Perhaps Bethesda is "testing the waters" of GOO to perhaps use it in future games like TES V instead of Steamworks. If that's the case then I'm all for the gimped version of Oblivion being on Impulse.
I mostly agree with you, but just pointing it out that it may not be bad for everyone.
FYI I'm having a blast on my 4th playthru and over 100 hours right now and I haven't even touched the main quest or Shivering Isles yet. SE and using FCOM is by no means required to enjoy the game immensely.
