During my latest Elemental game I really started to hate the name generator of elemental. It is really hard to care for your cities and children, if the random name generator assigns names that can be hardly read, and where one would not even try to pronounce them. So please please add a real random Name generator that produces pronouncable names.
I would wish for names between 2 and 3 random generated syllables that exhibit a remotely natural distribution of vowels and consonants. For vowels a distribution might look like
e 28,2% ea 1,4% a 20,7% ou 1,3% o 17,4% ie 1,1% i 18,6% ai 0,7% u 5,6% ee 0,7% y 3,9% oo 0,3% au 0,3%
and for consonants something like this
r 12,0% k 1,0% s 11,3% z 0,4% t 9,4% x 0,3% n 8,6% j 0,3% l 7,5% th 5,2% d 6,6% nd 2,1% c 5,0% nt 1,4% m 4,8% ng 1,3% f 4,2% ch 0,8% p 3,4% sh 0,4% y 2,6% wh 0,4% b 2,4% rd 0,3% w 2,3% gh 0,3% g 1,9% rr 0,2%v 1,8% qu 0,1% h 1,3% ph 0,1%
If you want to add some immersion you could then adjust the vowel and consonant probabilities dependent on the race, so one would notice: Oh these cities have a lot of "x" and "a" in their names. These were probably founded by the Kraxis empire.
Yes, the Name Generator comes up with a lot of silly and hard to pronounce names. It would be fantastic if it could be majorly improved before release. Especially for names that the player doesn't get to choose.
Best regards,Steven.
Not a bad idea. An additional "Rename" option may help too if it doesn't exist already.
I really hate when I capture the city of Ifsfakaflllba and can't rename it.
