Introduction
The Maelstrom Mod introduces four new races to the SoaSE Universe.
It keeps the original races, the TEC, Advent and Vasari who are still to be found building and battling as usual.
All of the new races are independent of the original races and have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Ive Encountered a Minidump when playing the Alliance i have 3 Military Research and 1 Laboratory and 1 starbase
the minidump occurs after 30 min into the game
im playing against all other 5 factions
Thanks for the feedback ... keep it coming.
I think i'm having some problems with the textures of the ships
I can only see boxes with a "X" in the middle which is a yellow colour
I dont really know whats going on, but everything else seems to be working fine
Just a quick thanks for making the mod, really enjoying it so far even though I can't see the ships in their glory:D
Sorry to hear of your problems. I haven't heard anyone with these problems.
Which mod are you playing Maelstrom, Maelstrom Expansion or Maelstrom Entrenchment?
It could be a combination of your hardware and the mod.
Can you give me your hardware specs: Processor, RAM, Video Card?
What Operating System are you running?
What are your Effects settings? I recommended the following Mod Setup: Effects Settings
1. Planet : Detail - Highest 2. Ship : Detail - Highest, Extras - High, Bump - Low 3. Building : Detail - Highest, Extras - High, Bump - Low 4. Show Planet Elevators - Off
1.Must I activate maelstorm and maelstorm expansion or only Maelstorm expansion?
2.Will you make in the version for Diplomacy a new Capitalship for all races?
Hi loooseer,
1. "Maelstorm" and "Maelstorm Expansion" are two different mods.
The "Maelstrom" mod = "Maelstrom Expansion" mod + Dreadnoughts.
A Dreadnought is a very large and powerful Capitalship that once researched and is at level 6 or beyond can be transformed into a "Starbase"... i.e it dumps its phase engines (cannot leave the gravity well as a "Starbase") but doubles its firepower, hulls, shields ... All six races have Dreadnought Capital ships.
To play the "Maelstrom" mod just activate "Maelstrom"
To play the "Maelstrom Expansion" mod just activate "Maelstrom Expansion"
2. I will work on the Diplomacy version of Maelstrom once the Entrenchment mod is released. The current Entrenchment mod for Maelstrom is a Beta version only and is not complete. The Diplomacy mod will have Diplomatic frigates added
I'm been searching for a vanilla mod for months...
How could I miss this? This looks awesome, and a great work! Congratulations to the creator(s)!!!
Suggestion: for the next version of the mod, why don't you add an organic race (I mean, with organic ships). Some ideas you could use are:
- Tyranids, from Warhammer 40000
- Mantis, from Conquest: Frontier Wars
- The game Genesis Rising (all ships and structures in that game are organic)
This is only a suggestion! But if you like it, I'm glad to help!
I have a problem. I have the right SoaSE version, downloaded Maelstrom Expansion and put it into the mod directory. But inside the .zip archive there's no main folder, only lots of folders. So, if I unzip them all, when I try to select the mod into the game, all those folders appear and I don't know wich one active! Please help!
If you see a bunch of folders like GameInfo, Particles, sound, string, etc., create a folder in your mod folder that says Maelstrom or something to that effect and put all of those folders into it. Run your game and you should only see one thing, enable, play and enjoy.
"Suggestion: for the next version of the mod, why don't you add an organic race" ...
good idea, however its a matter of resources and hence game performance. The current mod takes the counts on meshes, textures and sound files close to the hardcoded limits of the game. Replacing a player is possible. Lets finish the mod up to Diplomacy and we can re-visit the suggestion then.
In the meantime you can give me your impressions of the mod.
Maelstrom Entrenchment with this settings above. (only the "highest" settings I used only "High")
I tested one game with 4 player, all Norlamin and the same game all Replicator. Both have a Minidump around 20-30 minutes, nothing spezical happend at this time.
the game used only around 1,4 GB Ram... with other mods it used 1,7 GB and didnt minidumped
PC:
Win 7 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 8400, 4 GB RAM, Geforce 8800 GT
I hope I can help you... Its an great Mod... but I dont want to play it on Vanilla Sins, because of the missing timespeed-button
Why don't you use - and =? (- and +)
those adjust speed in all versions...
as V and B zoom in and out, and Q W E R T and A S D F G are for the action grid buttons.
Those are several buttons that most do not know about.
While also on the topic of lesser known keys, you can also get into the key bindings and assign a key to give you access to movement on the Z axis. (Up and down, relative to ship movement.) Personally, I like putting my research stations really high or low if I have the time to mess with it, if for no other reason to annoy the people I'm playing against. =] The further they have to chase things, the longer I have to bring in re-enforcements.
Nothing wrong with your game or PC.Maelstrom Entrenchment is a beta only.
It has a couple of bugs ... or more specifically cetain modifiers are handled diffenetly in Entrenchment compared to Sins Original. So when I translated the Maelstrom Mod to Entrenchment the abilities did not translate 100%. We are talking about maybe 3.
The problems involve the Norlamins and Replicators and a few of their abilities.
The TradeAlliance I think is ok.
Have tracked 1 bug for the Replicators... If a Replicator loses a planet, has a beam weapon in orbit, has done Hord research then don't destroy the beam weapon becasuse you will get a crash!
Hopefully will sort out other problems our weekend.
I keep getting a mini dump error. Its installed correctly in the entrenchment mods folder. But when I start up the game map, yeah, it works fine at first, but it seems everytime I zoom in to a ship or planet the game crashes and I get the minidump. Help?
Entrenchment is in beta due to bugs, see the post immediately above yours for more information.
Hi HapesConsortium,
Your minidump appears to be the first of its type reported.
Can you give me:
1. PC Spec's: OS, Core, RAM, GPU
2. What map, what races?
3. What stage in the game does it crash?
4. What are your effects settings?
Yes "Entrenchment is in beta" however crashes are associated with a couple of abilities.
Graphics minidumps would be caused by hitting the 2Gb RAM limit or the PC being underspeced and/or not setup correctly (latest drivers).
Ahhh lets see, Pc, is sony Vaio.
Vista 7 Windows
Intel duo core processor T7250 2.00 ghz
2.00 gb of RAM
Crash happens with all races on large maps with large amounts of players. Haven't tried it on smaller maps yet
Currently I have settings on high, but will try and see if medium has any noticeable effect.
I also have bloom, and skybox effect disabled to free up some operating space
oh sorry, and its a 32 bit os
I'm going to say it's definitely a RAM issue (at this point in time with the new information), with only 2Gigs on your system, your OS chews up close to a gig, and everything else you have running like a firewall, antivirus, etc, chews up even more drastically limiting the amount you have available to use. You're probably going to be stuck on low settings and maps of the small and medium variety, read that as 4 players or less.
The good news is, adding another gig of RAM (32 bit OS maxes at 3gig of RAM) is a fairly easy solution that would boost the capability of your system to play the game.
Thanx for that mate. Hoopefully soon I will be able to upgrade to a better pc, haha.
I am having the same issue as HapesConsortium (with Vanilla Sins not Entrenchment), and it is also with the small maps at the highest graphic settings. My computer Specs are:
Windows 7 Professional
32-bit Operating system
Intel i5 2.27GHz Processor
4GB memory
Any thoughts?
What is your Graphics Card?
When you say "highest graphic settings" what are the following settings
1. Planet : Detail 2. Ship : Detail, Extras, Bump 3. Building : Detail, Extras, Bump
What stage of the game?
What race's are playing?
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics
1. Planet : Detail - Highest2. Ship : Detail, Extras, Bump - Highest (all)3. Building : Detail, Extras, Bump - Highest (all)
very beginning of the game as i am zoomed in on the constructor ship building a metal collector.
I have the Norlamin's vs. the Cator's
