Introduction
The Maelstrom Mod introduces four new races to the SoaSE Universe.
It keeps the original races, the TEC, Advent and Vasari who are still to be found building and battling as usual.
All of the new races are independent of the original races and have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Latest R2 version m8... And i'm talking about the lag late in the game.. seriously i cannot believe you are saying you are not noticing lag
Original, Expansion, Entrenchment or Diplomacy?
What races are in play ... what planets?
It could be an ability on a planet or a frigate combination.
Is it lagging in a battle?
I've had 100 Dreads in play on a Maelstrom map - ever race in play.
I don't turtle and I don't tend to build to much defense.
A friend likes to turtle and play the Systems of War map ... no lag
Diplomacy version. I'd have to check on races.. I'm playing trade alliance but only few other races are still left.. About 3. Prolly a random large map instead of medium then since i started with 8 races.
Lags while zooming out on planets and massivly lags in battles... 1, 2 fps.. with freezes of 5 seconds very frequently. And even when half my fleet is annihalated but lags gets a bit less then.
And yeah. i maybe more of a turtle.. Just start off building up a few planets, developing them and then expanding... but only have a dozen planets atm.. random medium 8 player map, 1 star.
Thanks for the feedback.
From what you say I can't pick a specific reason for lagging. I'll continue testing in Diplomacy.
Most of my testing is on Original and Entrenchment.
BTW in R1 the TA had an ability problem with its beam defenses, self-destruct ... too many targets, too large an area. Also a booby trap ability was taken out.
I think most of the extreme lag happens on random medium/large maps.. Not the scenario or premade maps.. The systems of war map seems to be very smooth but i'm guessing that has to do with the fact that all the action happens in a very small star system at once,
TA Fighter and Galactica carrier issues.
Change a line in the Fighter_TradeAlliance.ENTITY file. Change line "Canfireatfighter" from False to True
Change 2 lines in the TA Capital ship carrier file, don't remember the exact name right now, not at home machine. Change two lines, "TargetCountPerBank:FRONT" and "TargetCountPerBank:BACK" from 0 to 1
Thank you for the link. I will read it. I tried to creat a new ability but have something wrong, getting a mini dump, but I will work it out.
Thanks again
Thanks for that!
I find "Modifier list" by bailknight essential when working with abilities. Also I always check the original abilities for correct format and use (a good word search editor is a must and then search for key 'words') . Note that there are some 'non-obvious' constraints on what abilities can do and how you use them, hence trial and error.
Are you saying you have had other instances of noticeable lag?
Well i tend to only play random maps, not the premade ones and on the larger ones i always have extreme lag later on. But so far on the systems of war map it is extremely smooth so far... Maybe I should stick to premade maps
The 'non-obvious' and 'trial and error' is dead on no matter what tools you have (even with dev.exe).
Hey Maelstrom,
Your welcome to use my wiki page too (http://code.google.com/p/soaseplugin/wiki/Syntax). It has all the same modifiers as bailknights plus it's updated with the latest versions of Diplomacy and is generated using my sins validation rules and definitions. Also, I have extended my Sins Editor to have better support for all three versions of Sins as well. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
Depending on what I'm testing I play
1. Large: Random Huge(Single)
2. Medium: Maelstrom (occasional Systems of War) [with one of each race]
3. Small: Random [typically one each of the original races and two each of the new races]
Of the three versions of Sins (O,E & D) Entrenchment is the least susceptible to lag, even with just the originals race (see TSOP).
Though as I have said I have not notice any 'extreme' lag in testing - worst I have seen is a Huge Random Single with the Maelstrom for Original Sins (once it paused for a second near the end/peak of the game).
You might like to try Entrenchment, it should be smoother, that is until I get to the bottom of this issue.
A question to all players of R2 of Maelstrom ...
Has anyone else experienced 'extreme' lag in game play?
is there anywhere where you have the ships stats posted?cause i keep forgetting abilities and i wanted to tell my friends about em'
I have lag, but I do when playing without mods, as I need to update machine. But if there is a difference I have not noticed a large one.
The lag on large / medium random maps i've having i the same as i had on R1 of maelstrom.. Can't remember if it was the same without the mod at all since i hadn't played the game without it for quiet some time. So i think the lag doesn't have too much to do with the mod but just with the outdated game engine.
Any chance you could make available the original R1 release somewhere? I want to try entrench but need a few of the R1 files to correct the fighter problem among things.
There is an archive section on the Maelstrom website, go to the download page.
I find this hard to believe. There is a noticeable improvement in game speed between R1 and R2 as a number of people have made comment on.
No not yet, when the races approach their final balance I will consider compiling the stats.
Hi ZombiesRus5,
Yes, I have used your wiki also, thanks.
It is only recently that I looked at using dev.exe, I typically have been using error logging. With some of the esoteric reports given by dev.exe I decided to use your Editor (a couple of weeks ago). Unfortunately couldn't trace the problems - not because of your editor though. Your Editor is a powerful tool, thanks.
no lag here.
I'm not critisizing your good work bro.. Just expressing how it feels on this end but just realize that at my end i'm having 1, 2 fps so the difference would be hardly noted. But i'm more than happy now that i'm playing a premade map mucho smoother
BTW i'm using an Asus G73JH gaming monster notebook with 8 gigs of ram, i7, ATI HD 5870, etc..
Keep up the good work, like i mentioned before this mod is the best one i've ever seen on any game.
I did not take it as a criticism ... far from it. As always feedback is appreciated.
I what to optimize the mod as far as possible, any problems I what to know about and improve ... no beating around the bush.
My Box: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, Q9400 @2.66GHz, 3GB RAM, XP Professional (32 bit), NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS.
With your help and others we can make it better.
I had looked through the file for such a switch, but if you search for something
Thank you
