This game comes out on Tuesday. I've been cautiously optamistic(sp?) about this one. It looks great but it is a transformers game after all, when have they ever made a good one of those? But after getting a brief chance to play the multiplayer demo on Xbox, I'm very excited and will be picking this up on tuesday. The multiplayer is divided into 4 classes (2 of which are playable in the demo).
The Scout (playable in demo) - Transforms into a speedy car, can cloak, and has weapons like shotguns, sniper rifles, a revolver and a charge up plasma cannon that probably does lots of damage when fully charged but I never hit anything with it.
The Scientist - This one transforms into a jet, and has abilities that heal and support the team. not in the demo so I can't say much more.
The Leader - This class as far as I can tell is based around Optimus. The leader transforms into a truck and has powers that buff the team and such. He can also ram people when in truck mode.
The Soldier (playable in demo) - Transforms into a tank. He has a hover power that I believe gives him a damage reduction bonus while doing it, and also has "whirlwind" power, in which he pulls out his giant ax and spins around for 10 or so seconds doing severe damage to anything he touches. He has rocket launchers and assault rifles and things like that.
All classes have other powers they can unlock as you rank up and they also have 3 perks ala call of duty.
Transforming is quick and easy do to with a click of the right thumbstick, and lets you get around quickly. While transformed you are more vulnerable, but all vehicle modes do have weapons, but that is mostly just used for harassment as they're not as powerful as your normal weapons. Health is different from your standard magical regenerating back to full health thing that most shooters do. Each class has a different amount of "health boxes", (4 for scout, 7 for soldier, probably 5 and 6 for the other two) and once you lose all of box, it won't regenerate (So if you lose 2 and half boxes, you'll regain half the box, but the other two wont). However there are health pick ups scattered around the map that will bring you back to full.
This game looks very promising, But I don't think that I will be getting the PC version, as it's by activision, and there has been no word on anything about the pc version, so I fear we have another MW2 on our hands in that regard.
I ordered it yesterday, but as I am probably a hopeless fanboy, my opinion is heavily biased.
I agree, it looks awesome as (blank) (blank-ity) (blank), and I can't wait to play it. Supposedly you can also create a custom Transformer, make your own character so to say. A long time ago I made a Transformer from my first car, you can bet he'll be incarnated into this game.
That is correct Veedot. It's not in the demo but you can change the color and pick different chassis and what not. I don't think itll be as advanced as we'd like it to be tho. Watch some of the videos on Gametrailers and it shows some of that in action.
Ya, i had alot of fun playing it... preordered from amazon and will be here on release date. Only played warrior, had fun but kept involentarily hitting transform and screwed myself up.
Had a lot of fun with the demo as well, can't wait for the final game. Still debating if I want it on my 360 or on the PC. It's not quite the kind of game which requires very precise aiming (yeah there are headshots, but the Transformers are big and there aren't huge sniping distances like, say, Bad Company 2). Did you guys notice also where it says that when you level up all classes to max level you unlock Prime mode? That's gotta be fun.
From the demo, I loved the soldier. The Scout car has an awesome machine gun, but its Robot-form weapons aren't really my style. As soldier, I love the minigun weapon, and it's always fun to start whirlwinding and killing 3 other bots
I would love to play a fun Transformers game and will probably check out the demo based on this post. Frankly they have been more for my 3 and 8 year old up to this point...
Oh, well, better than nothing I suppose. I'm the kind of guy who wishes everything was as customizable as GalCiv2 and Spore.
/off topic: Must find a way to combine Spore, GalCiv2, and various others into one super-game. (in lieu of a "bwahaha" emoticon.) Oh well, I'm studying to be a game designer so maybe...
Is this the hawt robotsex game I was looking for? No? Oh well it still looks okay...
Apparently its like seriously coop? I like coop.
Yeah, the campaign is played with several characters backing you up, which can be AI or other players. There's also a wave survival mode that's been getting more common after Gears of War 2 and Halo: ODST introduced them.
so? is monk supposed to go out and buy this game?
I have sooo many awesome memories of the combat in the Mech Warrior series (and yes.....I know this isn't mech warrior but....) and from the vids the combat seems somewhat similar so I'm seriously thinking about it.
yay or nay? anny?
@the monk- I dont know what videos for transformers or what mechwarrior games you played, but they really don't play anything alike at all. THat being said transformers is amazing so I suggest picking it up. Good campaign fantastic multiplayer. Especially if youre like me and you've been getting tired of CoD and all its knock offs.
So has anyone gotten it yet? Early reviews seem to be fairly positive. I hear it's a consolized game, but the game actually respects its roots and has a good level of polish.
I'm especially interested in the multiplayer. If it's any good, it could be a decent deal at $40.
The game is definitely consolized as a shooter, in terms of having bigger models and bigger crosshairs for easier aiming with a controller. It definitely respects the Transformers cartoon roots (they again have the original Optimus voice actor!). And it is also pretty polished, visually and technically.
As far as Multiplayer, it borrows from many popular games, which makes it pretty good. Firstly, the Campaign can be played fully in co-op with several people (3 characters per mission is what I've seen so far). Then there's a Survival type mode which appeared in Gears of War 2 and Halo: ODST. Multiplayer itself borrows from Call of Duty, Bad Company, etc class advancement systems. You get 4 classes (Scout/car, Soldier/tank, Scientist/plane, Leader/truck), each with a unique selection of weapons, abilities, perks, and chassis types. You gain XP for killing, with typical bonuses for streaks, revenges, headshots, things like that. Like CoD, there's a "Challenges" system that gives you xp to level, though doesn't provide any unlocks as far as I can figure so far. Gaining levels unlocks more abilities and perks relevant to your class, and of course you can only pick so many to equip. You can also customize your colors a bit and have a selection of several models per class. Apparently when you max out all classes you unlock "Prime" mode, though I don't know what that does, yet
Then there are most of the common game modes popular today. Deathmatch, control point capture, etc.
Basically, it's a pretty well thought out and designed game that's heavily influenced by the original material, so if you like Transformers and you don't mind console-style shooters, I'm pretty confident you'll like the game.
@Monk:
As someone said above, MechWarrior and this aren't really comparable You do get big robots blasting the crap out of each other, but that's more or less where the similarities end. As for yay or nay? Yay!
There is a PC version as well, unless I'm mistaken.
There is, but given that it's a straight port it's basically identical to the console version as far as I'm aware.
I'm still playing the free release of 4 lol. It's amazing how many new people you can get hooked on it when you tell them its free... it's resulted in some quite good LAN parties, plus I assume multiplayer counts are higher now.
I heard they are releasing a new title in the MechWarrior series? Just base rumour or is there some truth to it?
I was talking about the PC version, hence the $40 ($60 for consoles) and said "consolized." Fallout 3 was for the PC, but had a very consolized interface.
@Annatar11
Thanks for the info. Sounds good. I might just pick it up this weekend.
It's not a rumor, however past the initial announcement of the game, we haven't heard anything about it (other than them getting sued because the Teaser Trailer they released with the announcement apparently resembled RoboTech too much).

I hope so, at least I think they were going to release one. There sure are a lot of CGI trailers for it. Supposedly they ran into some legal trouble though.
Just so you're aware, on Tuesday (the launch day) for the game, there was a guy on the #stardock IRC asking if anyone had the PC version to play with, and said at that time there were around 500 people online. I don't have the PC version myself, so I don't know how much that number has gone up (though I'm certain it has), but multiplayer population is something to consider since consoles should get the majority deal here.
The legal trailer was with the trailer itself, I believe. I don't remember it having anything to do with the actual game.
