Yes, as the titles says official Fallout Online website is live, beta sign-ups has begun. There is no word about when the beta starts though.

Bets on for it sucking to high heaven.
of course it'll suck, it's a mmorpg after all.
This will be any different from that other, failed, post-apocalyptic MMORPG known as Fallen Earth how?
Fallout Online wont have a backwards design paradigm. They only just realised that moveing from one end of the planet to the other shouldn't take 3 hours... (it should take 45 minuets with some bus rides instead... sigh).
the domain name they got is weird, when people goto play "fallout online" theyre going to type the url "falloutonline.com" and maybe to a lesser extent "fallout-online.com". what is the deal with "fallout-on-line.com"? it just feels off.
as far as the game though, apparantly interplay is moving forward with it even though bethesda is opposed to it. i *thought* bethesda bought the fallout IP from interplay back when interplay imploded, so i have no idea what this is all about; im looking more into it.
a post apocalyptic mmo has yet to be done successfully (in the 'yay, this is really fun!' sense; done right, it can happen but it looks like it will be a good while before you could tell with this one.
gl in court interplay.
I hope Interplay stops pulling a Necron and finally dies once and for all after this lawsuit. They're the ones holding onto exclusive publishing rights for FreeSpace and refusing to sell despite it being a dead IP, ironically mainly because of them, and if Interplay kicks it then THQ might be able to buy up the rights and get the guys at Volition back to work on FreeSpace 3.
This knowledge enrages me greatly. If Freespace 3 were done I wouldn't have wasted so much time coding my own similar game.
However much I dislike the direction they took the Fallout story (no real drugs, no pimping your wife, a much more PG feel than FO 1 and 2) part 3 is still a really good game, and interplay really screwed the current owner of the license. I can't in good conciseness play FOO, as it would be like putting money against the FO license.

Go there, grab the FreeSpace Open Installer from the tab on top (which needs an installed copy of FS2 patched to 1.2), set it to download The Works, and then play Blue Planet, Derelict, FSPort, Silent Threat: Reborn, Deus Ex Machina, and Just Another Day 1, 2, and 3. After playing DEM and JAD 1-3 you won't be so enraged anymore since you'll be laughing so hard you'll fall out of your chair.
I'd like to hope and pray that a MMORPG of Fallout would be cool, but, I'm highly sceptical of anything with the letters "MMO" attached to it these days. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.....but expect the worste. *crosses fingers*
Anyone see the War hammer 40k MMO trailer.
I dont like MMO since they are all pretty much WOW clones and im not a fan of 40k (endless war sounds... boring).
But OMG the MMO 40k looks amazing.
Interplay sold the rights of the franchise to Bethesda with one provisio; they maintained rights to develop and launch a FO based MMO.
But they had to have started development on it before x date (I forget when exactly). They didn't though; they started after and Beth contested them on it. Interplay claims they did and took shots of models and things supposedly relating to the MMO project, but I think were later found to be from another or earlier game altogether or something. lol
I forget the exact specifics; but I'm curious to see whether this'll see the light of day or not.
They always look that way early in development. Usually it's a couple months after it's released that people discover there isn't a very good game under all the shiny. See: Warhammer Online.
MMO=Monthly Subscription Fees.
I personally don't like the concept of paying for a game every month after you've bought it...
I mean, other games that have an online mode don't charge you (unless it's on Xbox 360 or apparently soon PS3. Go PC gaming!). Call me cheapskate, but it just doesn't seem right to charge you for a game after purchase, even if it is "Massively Multiplayer"
According to sites it's scheduled to laucnch in August this year...so it's more some late sneak peek it seems.
Just hope thye make a better game than with warhammer online: dark, grim, but PG-13!
Its not hard to make a better game than Warhammer Online (for a talented development studio).
So its not going to be better than WAR then...
MMOs can be a dime a dozen, and most are underdeveloped. I don't trust any studio that's not well-respected to do a good MMO, and even some that are fail. I currently have no hopes for Fallout Online being any good - it would take a very well known studio to pull it off right.
Just me, but Fallout seems like a single player RPG experience. Roll in coop maybe, but why?
My experience with MMO has been good, but you know why? I tend to run lone wolf in any MMO. If I join a guild it is always a guild of mostly lone wolf players. The value of a MMO to me is a well-maintained game where I only have to worry about having a client on my disk.
Play a lot of WoW early on. Got my fill of raiding in those early days. My most recent return to WoW was over a year ago, started a Night Elf Hunter, got him up to level 71 in two months, elite flying mount, not rich and famous, but rich anyway. Never grouped, never ran an instance. Found a nice guild of like-minded players. Lots of fun chatting. Good folk.
I have 7 classes fully leveled and equipped, all their primary skills and such, in Guild Wars. Not rich and famous there either, but rich! I still go my weekly round of activities. Great game for a lone wolf now that they have the hero and henchman system fine tuned.
Guild Wars 2 is looking very good so far. That is the only MMO I really look forward to, and I am looking forward to it a lot!

But the Fallout motif as the basis for a MMO? Somehow to me it doesn't really seem to fit. I do like Fallout, but I do not see myself playing a MMO version.
Oh how I would love fallout co-op. Bang a whore together in co-op ... what? its not going to have whores? No blood? NO VIOLENCE? Oh theres still violence, parents don't care about violence.
Teen or a 12 rating is the worst thing about MMOs IMO.
Still, Id love to play play a good fallout MMO that is awesome and not maybe by clusterfu InterPlay. As long as I can play the game without needing anyone but my friend, or its just another everquest.
