I was just wondering when we might see the full magic system in beta. A couple of the objectives of beta 2 are balance and pacing. I expect that magical research and the presence of magic in the world is going to play a HUGE, probably even central role in that. So why is the magic system being held back for so long? And during what phase of beta (if any) Can we expect to see the full magic system implemented?
As much fun as I have had in the beta so far, it seems a little weird that we are ten weeks from release target and have not seen the Magic of Elemental: War of Magic.
It's quite literally like being asked to provide balancing advice on a FPS, but your only weapon is the pistol that you start out with, and the grenade launcher, the machine gun, and the BFG3000 have been disabled!

While I respect your opinion on this, I am going to disagree. From a financial stand point, Stardock never based it's business decisions on needing funding from their internal produced games.
Because they have their own budget that is supported by their own needs, and being extremely sound financially. They don't need boosts of preorders. Do they help? Sure. Need, no. This company doesn't work that way, and hasn't. It's sort of seeing an ethical company, producing things they want to experience and play with themselves, and also yet as it is a business that they can make money on.
This game is obviously budgeted for a certain funding level. But if it takes longer, it's polish, and enhanced features. Not, because they are living paycheck to paycheck. They make a LOT of money off of their own products. And this stuff here with Elemental, is an engine. Now that it's roaring, that removes development time on it in the future. That's why this is so robust. And the game world is able to be a Fantasy Civ with RPG flavors. And then added in all those extra cool things the niche market of D&D players, would be able to get into.
You gotta be kidding.
I said possible, not probable, though is has become a somewhat common practice from other developers.
Also, budget limits are hit, sometimes devs really want to make something special and need extra money to accomplish it. What I proposed would make a lot of sense in that situation.
