I got this idea from a very weird dream.
Basically, take the units, spells, and most of the mechanics from elemental. Now instead of a wasteland, transport it to an apartment building. Basically, I'm thinking an apartment building just floating in a void. Instead of exploring ruins or expanding cities, you explore apartments. Instead of buildings cities and revitalizing the wastes, you construct beacons of sorts that ward off the encroaching darkness from the void.
Whether or not this idea is possible depends entirely on the modding tools, would it support walls, multi-floor maps, or at the very least support modding those features in?
Have a whole bunch of other ideas refining the concept, (players start on the relatively untouched middle floors, main goal is mostly survival/returning home, not defeating opponents, the darkness encroaches from the top and bottom floors, fantasy thematic floors to make it even weirder, etc.) but that is the basic gist of it.
Do you mean people living in "dungeons" that they can explore and colonize? Because I had been thinking about that (different objectives to what you comment though) and yeah, still many things in the air like multi-floor maps. Walls and other types of tilesets should be somehow feasible depending of which props we get to play with in the editors. But other things like those muti-floor levels could be tricky. Once the modding gets into the beta (Beta 4, maybe sometime around july) we will start getting answers to things like this (hopefully).
Not bad for a "weird dream".
Dream was even weirder than the concept. This has been sanitized by waking rationalization. The dream included a plot with a flash foward, and a TWIST.
Hey, wait a minute. Did you have this dream after watching the finale of LOST?
But Wintersong couldn't answer the question.
Because he was already dead.
Spoiler alert
Damn this forum and it's weird way of presenting the OP.
Now I must retire to my Cave of Shame.
Or something similar, the game takes place in a kid rooms. You need to find a way to conquer the bed, protect the closet, etc.
Reminds me of an unreal tournament map which had a similar concept.
Abstract is good. This sort of reminds me, in tone, of the Persona games. It has the logic of a dream, which is good.
Units should wear ordinary, modern, clothes. Maybe some weird costumes thrown in, too; like cops, clowns (with balloons), and ballerinas. Wouldn't want to go too far with the zany costumes--not far enough to make it comical, but just random and strange. The costumes would be rare equip-able items.
I'm sure someone will come up with a way to have multiple levels, or multiple maps, on one contiguous game map. Too many mod ideas and suggestions have talked about underworld areas and explorable dungeons. Once one individual comes up with a working multi-map mod, that could open the floodgates on it.
I was going to ask him if he got the idea from a dream or from Inception...lol. It's a cool idea, just seems kinda...Inception-y.
