Yes, Square Enix reveals that the publisher has contracted Obsidian to develop a new multi-platform Dungeon Siege. Cool news for me.

Interesting to see how this turns out. I played Dungeon Siege 1, thought it was good. Dungeon Siege 2, the demo made the mistake of calling me "worm" early on. I would not take that from Microsoft! Plus I hated the zoom and angle.
So maybe third time is the charm.
"Uncover a deep story that only Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment can deliver."
So its about a emo spiky haired software engineer who has problems fixing bugs in his applications and has issues with interface design? *cough*
I guess the console guys get another old PC game for their ever expanding (dirty) cloud of influence.
Let me just explain what I mean since I just realised your not mind readers on this planet. There seems to be this expectation from developers that console players are half-wits that can't understand even a minorly complex system. Thus the dumbing down of game design for console. This is not to be confused with refinement of the design to make it more focused and more fun.
It seems that developers treat the console as the "easy way" where good interface design dosn't matter and customising options is too much for delecate females to be able to think through, where "deep" means all of 2 interacting systems! At the SAME TIME!
Umm yeah that was a rant.
I liked DS1 and 2. Thanks for the heads up wileBill.
Hmmm Could Elemental be modded for such a thing...?
If Elemental can reproduce old style Lucas Arts adventures, I would certainly play those mods (over and over again).
This can't be any worse than Space Siege was.
I predict (yet another) failure on Obsidian's behalf.
I liked Dungeon siege 1, then played 2, hated it, and it made me hate dungeon siege 1 as well.
I like DS1 and DS2 was ok... I hope DS3 is good. Time will tell...
I was never a fan of the series, really. Dungeon Siege 2 was OKish but nothing to get warmed up over. I only played Dungeon Siege 1 after playing Dungeon Siege 2 and it just felt horribly old. It may have been good back then, but it's not what I'd call a timeless classic.
That said, I think this could actually turn out reasonably good. Square Enix and Obsidian could probably produce a fairly competent action RPG, since they're not supposed to make much sense anyway.
I only played a little of Dungeon Siege II at a friends house, and it just didn't appeal to me. As far as I'm concerned, Torchlight is currently the king of the Hack 'n Slash, and with Diablo III being WoW-a-fied it could hold onto the top honours for quite a while.
You better put on a flame-proof suit when traveling near Blizzard fanboys now.
i liked ds1 when it came out but hated it for the lack of reply in it, loved ds2...though still didn't compare to diablo2 despite the rather nice looking graphics for it's timeHATED SPACE SIEGE SO MUCH!!! (caps are needed, if you havn't played space seige, trust anyone who has and who hates it)I would look forward to a ds3, but so many games fail when going multiplatform. I think i'll just hang out for the torchlight mmo and GW2 (i would include diablo3, but still waiting on that release date:P)The only thing i don't get from the articles, they talk about co-op multiplayer like there was no multiplayer in the first 2. You could play the campaign missions in number 2 with a friend or more if you wanted very easily.
As much as I hate to say it, DS3 will likely use Steamworks as several SE games have released with as of late. I pray that it wont as I'd like to have at least some possibility of purchasing it on Impulse, but the likelihood is pretty good that it will be a "steam only" product.
I glanced at the article but it seemed to focus on the consoles obtaining that game. Did anyone notice if it was planned to come to the PC as well?
I still have hope that Impulse will obtain DS1&2! I loved the first and never got around to playing the second. Then again, the fun of playing DS1 was coop, but I'm sure the servers are long since shut down. Guess we'll see.
I agree that Impulse needs to get DS1 and 2, maybe as a combo pack for $20 or something. I have my original DS1 install disks but it just won't play on Win XP, crashes. I loved DS1, tried the demo for DS2 and didn't like it as much so I never bought it.
I look forward to seeing what they do with DS3. BUT I fear as others do that it will use Steamworks which will then make yet another game a no buy for me. Boy, Steam is saving me a ton of money lately by forcing Steamworks on every game it seems. Oh well, more money for developers like Stardock and the other indies out there.
Actually makes me sad. I'd much rather see a real RPG and not more of these lite action RPG's. Dungeon Siege wasn't even one of the better ones. I got bored half-way through the first one and never looked back. Both of these companies are capable of much more than what the previous Dungeon Siege's brought to the table. Wish they wouldn't waste their efforts on this.
I want more games like gothic 1 and 2.
Bleh!...for a moment I thought that Dungeon Keeper III. is in development.
I don't hate Space Siege. I don't really care for it enough to play through it, but its playable when I can't think of anything better to do. (Admittedly that doesn't happen often.) Of course, I got it for free for preodering Alpha Protocol, so *shrug*
Alpha Protocol was great, too. I dunno whats up with the reviews, but the console versions are getting worse reviews.
While a little disappointed by DS2 I still had fun with it, I'll definately be playing 3.
I really liked Alpha Protocol, great storyline. DS1 was good, but I don't expect much from it, don't know what Obsidian can do with it.
Have you tried Risen ? It's from the same developers.
I sure won't be buying it.
Holy of holies, greatest game never made.
Great news! I loved Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 and I loved NWN 2 from Obsidian, so I'm looking forward to this.
My favorite part about Dungeon Siege was how it took all the complex stuff from Diablo and its clones and condensed it down so that I can play the whole game with a single finger.
