The new trailer is out. Please note: All footage captured in-game.
Incredible stuff..
I've got Complete and Total faith that Shogun 2 is going to kic Serious Ass!!! Should be the best one in the series yet. They boosted the amount of units you control from 20 to 30 for starters and for once the AI will be able to handle putting troops on boats and launching invasions (a common problem that has plagued them with Every game at launch). I also saw some new art work for the game that showed Ninjas, so...Ninjas are IN!!! Can't wait.
Oh man this will be the most amazing TW game yet, that's for sure.. that new video was jaw dropping.
Sh!t yeah it was. Honestly it took a lot to think that was all actual in game footage. Granted I've seen them do some impressive things, like the water effects in Empire, but that was almost too good to be true. When the boats were sailing and it first showed them and the waterline, and then when the samurai are sitting under the tree and the cherry blossoms were falling around them, those things were hard to buy as "in game" and not cinematic. If it is though, I'm impressed. I feel sorry for anyone who's going to try to run this on a older system though...lol. With all those effects if the person running it has anything less than a quad core it's gonna be lag city for them.
It still looks amazing though. I would have loved to see Elemental's battles done in that kind of scale.
It all looked rendered to me, because the distant objects dont degrade into horrid peices of crap like all TW games do lmao.
A thing I've think people do lately is rather than setup max or something with in game assests to render they have a special mode of their game which renders to file (a movie) at stupid resolutions with full detail on all objects. Maybe something like that?
The distance rendering issues went out with Empire brother, where you been?
Seriously though, they did. Empire with all options cranked to Ultra looks amazing. I always turn off the distance blur effect though simply because I don't like it. I'd rather have the distance objects be clear and sharp even if it is a little unrealistic.
Maybe this is just hyperbole, but this in game sequence looks better than a lot of the SC2 scenes, save for the few obviously farm renderd parts. I would also have loved to have seen elemental's battles on that scale, but if we don't get that with Elemental or its expansions, or mods, there's always Elemental 2
Hopefully the demo for this is better then the demo for Empire: Total War. That one turned me off the game completely.
I hope this will not be another Steam exclusive.
Really? Have a look at cavalry in the distance in empire, at max settings (on a 285) they look reallah bad.
Has Sega gone Steam exclusive on other PC stuff lately? 2K seems to be doing it with all titles.
That said, Sega's still under boycott until the new Virtua Fighter gets a console release (I'm a huge fan of the series- and not happy with how it's been treated this gen in the US. Most intelligent fighting game series ever. BTW, I've heard from some in the gaming industry that it's very likely)
Either way, this is CA's last chance in my eyes, and the only reason they're getting it is the Shogun 2 title.
Oooohh, you're talking about the 3D/2D sprite change that occurs when you scroll back and units are off in the distance. I thought you were talking about buildings or trees or the environment or something. You can disable the 3D/2D change as well but you have to do it in the ".ini" file manually.
As for engine rendering when they make these movies, their engine for making the videos does have one tweak the normal games don't have. They disable the unit caps when making the videos and make them on "Super Computers" that even the most expensive home system can't match. You can see it done in the intro movies for both Rome and Med 2. Those videos are made with in game graphics except that they unlock unit counts. In Rome specifically there's a massive calvary charge that has well over 100 Horses alone not counting the rest of the massive armies in the background. There's no way they could have done that with 20 unit limits in those armies. Graphically though, it's the same engine and same graphics you get during actual game-play, just scaled up for a more epic movie feel.
yep, the movies always have more units
As for the Shogun movie ... the only part they didn't use from in-game (I bet) is where the Samurai actually "mounted!" the horses. Like, they went from dismount, to mount. I doubt that kind of stuff is in-game
Though yea ... if its Steam exclusive I may have to break out the Ninja/Spec-Op gear
Did you play Empire, Tas? There are some units that can mount and dismount in the middle of a battle, like Dragoons, so it's highly possible that's in game.
Dragoons are like G20 police. With horses.
..... Oh.
Im guessing Napoleon is Steam only?
Quote:
Napoleon is to Empire how Warband is to Mount and Blade
I don't know, for multi-player, yes it's Steam only. I got up off my ass and bought my copy from a actual store though
Empire and Napolean are total steamworks games, even single player needs steam.
Ah well....I will buy Shogun 2 regardless of this Steam crap, because the game will be awesome.
It's about time.
I wonder why they avoided Shogun for so long. Rome gets expansions. Medieval got an Expansion, a sequel, more expansions for the sequel. Two more franchises come out. And NOW they finally get back to Shogun?
I would love it if they just take the original, maybe update the graphics a little, balance the units (like someone said with Geisha) and maybe add a few more added more fiefs (think Nobunaga's Ambition), better AI (always), and BRING BACK THE OLD STYLE MOVEMENT and call that Shogun 2.
I played Shogun and Medieval 1 to death. Heck, I still play Medieval 1. If Shogun 2 when back towards those roots, I'd be happy.
Heck, if it looked like Elemental's cloth map mode (which basically Shogun and Medieval 1 did). That's fine with me.
If Shogun 2 was a slightly updated Shogun 1 using CLOTH MAP!!! Then just mod Shogun 1 for goodness sake
even if Shogun 2 was just a slightly updated Shogun 1 WITH MODERN GRAPHICS!!!, just mod Shogun 1 for goodness sake
I mean, then only people like ME would buy the game due to not having already bought Shogun 1 ... that and people that rely heavily on graphics
This is why games with extra moddability are so awesome because instead of relying on sequels for THE SAME GAME you can actually mod the old one (more easily)
If all games were highly mod-able then sequels would actually have to be GOOD ... and not a clone
consider Civ III -> Civ IV ... now that was a DAMN GOOD sequel. And that could at least potentially be attributed to the Editor that came with Civ III, where you could design your own units, buildings, maps, etc.
Due to the simplicity of the Civ III editor I was able to make my own little game of Dragons vs Undead
The Undead primarily focused on mass-production of units + buildings that would spawn certain units ... compared to the Dragons that used Super Units + an airforce
I might have eventually given the undead an airforce of Banshees and Wraiths if Civ IV hadn't come out when it did.
Lies, all lies!! We all know there's no such thing as a "Good" Civ game
*dodges incoming rocks*
What about GalCIV?
Checkmate
Easy Difficulty Civ is for Megalomaniacs
Hard Difficulty Civ is for Prideful Megalomaniacs
MP Civ is for Competitive Megalomaniacs
Ladder Civ is for Prideful AND Competitive Megalomaniacs
recommended Anime for Megalomaniacs includes ...
Death Note
and
Code Geass (both seasons)
heh ... I once committed spontaneous and immediate Fan Rage over Code Geass IRL (to my present-day best friend too!)
Of course, at the time we WERE semi-violent frenemies so ... it wasn't a huge stretch
