Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.
Also, if this post works, I will cry.
Boom forums go
de bug iz bak
At the moment, starting a thread or commenting on one is taking forever to load once you hit the 'post reply' button.
....and I got an 'EGADS!' posting this one.
Gah - Kept erroring on me when I tried to post that - sorry for the triple post!
Why is it the pigeons always get the blame... what about the code monkeys???
Oh look.... geese.
Or what about the links between Stardock and the user?
I haven't had a boom in weeks. I am in San Diego, CA - in the USA. And a lot of the booms seem to come from down under.
Could it be something on their end?
I am "just" north of you. If this post goes through, it will be the first one of the day.
Yes. I just had a BOOM myself, on the very next response to that last - but in a different thread.
I hit the the Post Reply button at 12:42am, and it seemed to hang. So I went for a smoke and came back.
The reply had gone BOOM, but a refresh showed a response time of 12:53 and the post was intact.
If this were any of the organisations I've worked for the entire department would have been replaced by now. The poor performance of this website has been going on for years, it isn't a recent thing.
And the forum isn't a question of money. I visit much larger forums than this which have no money and work perfectly.
Maybe it's a secret plan to stop people interacting with the site. Sure as hell is driving a lot of people away.
don't think it's a secret that Stardock has lost intrest in customize.
booming 1:30 AM PST
The trouble seems to be, the many forums that interact with each other.
They each seem to have a different team, and they each seem to use a different code base.
And, it seems, none of them can really get on the same page with any of the others. And this has all been admitted by the devs.
A total rebuild seems in order, using the same code base. But that would cost them a LOT of time and $$$!
What would have been rather simple a few years ago, seems an insurmountable task today.
(This one went BOOM as well. But it posted in the end)
I'd say something...but I won't.

Might be that all the Forum code has to be redone... But I don't favor firing people who probably are doing their best under trying circumstances. After all, one never knows how much each person has to do in addition to his other jobs.
I just wish forums would get some love. I miss a lot of the folks who've gone.
no one needs to be fired... If you fire, you gotta rehire and that means retraining on top of the time you have to spend interviewing and waiting for people to apply.
I think it's also mostly a server issue rather than the code being poor quality. They really just need to throw more hardware at the problem, I think.
maybe someone should take to it with a sledgehammer....knock the booms out of it...
The History of Forums Frustration:
No matter what you do.....BOOM!
I'm right by you in Orange County and was getting them last night..... good theory in any case....
It is a matter of software. Look Neowin, they use Invision Power Board (modded) as a base and it runs like hell. But Stardock insists to use self made code which maybe good for hobbyists in the state it is now but is not anywhere near professional and even not for a multi-million dollar company Brad does not get tired to state.
But IMHO this is all part of a general problem Stardock has.
Brad : What about the loyal people that paid at least 2 tires for Your Porsche worth of subscriptions, software and skins in the course of time ? Are they all nothing to You now ? As a customer and subscriber for 10 years I for sure feel totally let down by the way this website and Stardock in general is driven at the moment. And everytime the forums go boom I ask myself what the heck I pay a subscription for. And I am very sure I am not alone. Many other people just don't speak up (maybe fear of being demoted or even banned ist too big) or just left.
If this would have happened on my radio-site people would for sure teared and feathered me. But before this moderators would have beaten (all with words of course) the s**t out of me for letting things go like this. Another thing I don't get : Why are moderators here mostly ignoring this desastrous state ?
Again I am sick and tired to always hear excuses like "We are busy with game XY." for years now, then excuses again, then promises "Everything will get better" followed by something that really could be a plan written by Brad just to be disappointed again as more and more apps are discointinued, development is stuck and reported bugs existing for years.
If Stardock only wants to be all games and WindowBlinds and totally useless desktop animation and Brads little favorite project Fences so be it. But then have the guts to be honest with us and don't try to squeeze even more money out if us by false promises. Latest infamous example is ObjectDock 2 and the preview sales just to be told after a little while that the next beta will happen like six months later.
And finally : Please nobody tell me there are no programmers for the job out there.
Why are moderators here mostly ignoring this desastrous state ? It's not the mods job to fix the site, they moderate the forums, or moderate uploads and such.
^ Lady X... he didn't say it was their job to fix things. He did say they shouldn't ignore the state things are in.
From the sense of things I've observed, the Mods are limited in what they can say/opine in public. In private, things are different.
I think c242 is honest and fed up....and I'm not too far behind.
That's funny raht thar, I don keer hoo ya awr!!!!
