Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.
Also, if this post works, I will cry.
Sure, I'm in Southern Oregon using Charter (ISP, man I hate them). Win 7 64 IE 8.
I mean it's a lot better now than it was before for sure. Maybe now though you believe me when i say i get at least one every day anyway which is a hell of a lot better than the half-dozen or more i was averaging before this last round of fixes.
Do you always get the booms when creating a posting or reply? And when do you usually post?
Sorry for the 21 questions, but the more info I can get the more likely it is that I will be able to track down what's causing the problem.
Bara
I just got one today too and this time hitting the back button didn't give me my post back. The back button not bringing up my post again happens occasionally but not always.
As far as I can tell, it's random, at least from my perspective anyway. I get at least one a day, sometimes more. It's been about 1-2 lately, at the height of the problem, when this was thread, I'd say i was gett more than half of my posts not going through.
I don't mind questions. I also had a weird problem yesterday where your post was showing up as a new post on "my replies" list, but clicking into the thread only showed mine as the last post. This happens to me infrequently, not as regular as the booms. I would have replied earlier otherwise. Sorry!
We have the forums cache on 3 different servers to help spread the load. This means that occasionally you might see some odd things like that. Your issue likely happened because when I made my post, it updated the cache on one server but not the others. The others were eventually updated when the cache expired (~5 minutes). The reason you saw it in your recent posts list is likely because the cache for that page is shorter than the one for the post page (say, ~3 minutes vs. ~5 minutes), so you just happened to view it during that 2 minute period in between.
Oh I see. At least now I know why some posts are there but not really there sometimes. The boom thing, i don't know why I am getting the brunt of it. I don't think there is anything especially unusual about my setup and connection is up to par. Hell charter has been doing some funny things lightly. I use to barely clock in a 3mbps while paying for 5, now I am well above the 8 they advertise. Just... weird.
Perhaps you post during times when we have big jobs running? Unfortunately it isn't easy to figure out what job might be increasing database load. Of course, we are continuously looking into better solutions for this problem to prevent it from happening as often as it did a few weeks ago, so eventually we might do something that may help you (especially after Elemental launches and everyone all of a sudden has a bunch of free time )
I can buy that since lately its usually the earlier posts that are going to boom instead of my later ones. Oh wells. I'll have less free time soon, not more which means less time on all forums
It's early still but so far I've launched over 5 posts without getting an error. I am getting excited here
Bara for fixin' us up. Thank you so much.
I forget how much of a pain that was till this post pops back.
I spoke too soon. It seems I am destined to always have at least one daily.
Try not accessing the site when the back-ups are running.
The back-ups?...
I jump in and out of the site at different times on different days. I still get them. I got one today too.
Hay, Bara
I add this add-on for Fire Fox (YSlow) < is a link don't know it you can use it on Internet Explorer
it is
YSlow analyzes web pages and suggests ways to improve their performance based on a set of rules for high performance web pages. YSlow is a Firefox add-on integrated with the Firebug web development tool. YSlow grades web page based on one of three predefined ruleset or a user-defined ruleset. It offers suggestions for improving the page's performance, summarizes the page's components, displays statistics about the page, and provides tools for performance analysis, including Smush.it™ and JSLint.
I don't know anything about web code but did run it on this site WC and you got an Grade E overall performance score 51
and it found Errors in the code if they are Errors I took 4 SS . I will post one and link to the others hopefully you will be able to see what is wrong and fix it..
did another test that comes with YSlow called JSLint it found 51 Problems and stopped at analyzing 0% of the code Because there were too many errors.
Please don't be mad at me just trying to help....

We've ran YSlow and other tools on our sites in the past, and we try to implement what we can for performance. Unfortunately it comes down to the amount of time it takes to implement such changes. But moving forward, we usually try to keep an eye out for such performance measures.
been fine for the last few weeks for me...thanks for your efforts....
The forums have been perfectly fine for me.
Post Note: You remind me of Julia Gillard. "Keep moving forward Australia!"
if I never hear those words again it'll be too soon....friggin' ramming it down our throats.....she's right....there is no God....otherwise she'd have been struck down with permanent laryngitis long ago.....
sydney & neoside, IF we could only MAKE them PAY out of their own pockets for the bloody headaches and other assorted pains that the bloody politicians(lots of blood sucking insects) force on us and then make us pay for, we would be a LOT better off
harpo
"Blood sucking insects"? No wonder Gillard's hair is red...
sydneysideers & neoshadow1104, if you are interested in the elemental game you might want to vistit your local jb hifi and ask them to order it in for you.
thanks for the tip harpo...
