Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.
Also, if this post works, I will cry.
3 booms in 15 minutes......
Um, it's been ok for me the last couple of days. The head weeble must be on top of things...
except the fact that forums.demigodthegame.com have been down for the past 4 days or so
That's nothing... I had 15 booms in 3 minutes.
Oh wait a minute, we're talking about 2 completely different things here.... aren't we!
(just a bit of (unappreciated by some) levity to break the monotony)
With the 'elp of a couple o' worzels 'e'll 'ave it dun in no time... oooh arrr. (in my best Devonshire accent)
On the bright side, I've only had one 'boom' in several days now, and only a handful over the last few weeks, so it's not something that I can complain is a frequent/regular/daily event. I experience a few slow page loads here and there, however, but even those aren't exactly hair pulling events, either. This isn't to say there aren't real problems, and I feel for those who are frustrated by them,
Fingers crossed they're all behind you soon.
I was enjoying the LACK of booms them it hit again(drat)
harpo
and again another boom.
and boom on walnut 2
and boom on walnut 2 ( the weeble's head is looking shaky)
and boom on walnut 2 ( the cyats are starting to look around for the pigeons again)
and boom again on walnut 2, and FINALLY accepted
lol it spreading! Demigod, Sins. WHAT NEXT?
On July 1st we found out that our database re-indexing job stopped working properly due to our database logs reaching their maximum size limit allowed by the server. We increased the size limit (to double it's previous value) and did a manual re-indexing. That seemed to help the forums with performance issues.
What the re-indexing job does is to recreate the indexes in the forum's database to help keep everything fast. If you're interested in how database indexing works or would like to learn more click here. The fact that it wasn't working may have contributed to the worsening performance of the forums, and possibly of the Boom errors.
On July 4th, the Demigod forums started exhibiting a consistent 100% CPU spike across all of our servers. We had to shut them down in order to prevent it from slowing down the other forums and WinCustomize. Occasionally we would turn them back on to try and resolve the problem but we were unable to resolve them until earlier this morning.
The 100% CPU usage from Demigod may also have contributed to performance problems and Boom errors.
As of right now, the re-indexing job is working properly and the Demigod forums are back up.
An update was pushed this morning, July 8th, that may also help with some performance-related issues, but that was not the primary reason for the update. I am currently working on a second update slated for Monday morning that may help us to track down where the Boom errors are coming from. This update may decrease the likelihood of a Boom error occurring.
Small little tidbit for Monday's update: I've fixed the editor so that now you can copy/paste links or manually type links and it will auto-link them without having to click on the link button in the editor's toolbar. Something that was much requested that I finally added. However, due to some security concerns there is also some discussion about possibly removing HTML entirely from posts, and relying on BBcodes moving forward. This may or may not happen by Monday, so we'll see.
I hope that's enough of an update for now to appease those of you who feel the forums failing occasionally is something to get upset over.
Bara
thanks for the update bara, but unfortunatly I was boomed when posting this.
Pics speak and save me from wasting time typing
Thanks for the update. Apparently it was not all in our head as some people <cough> tried to suggest nor was it linked to where we are located.
There may be some reduction in performance in locations outside of America. There are no plans to improve this in the near future, but the changes I make in the future may help overseas users too.
Well I am in the USA, and I had a lot, a lot of posts eaten up by booms, weird errors, and like today, sometimes the forums just don't seem to load. In any event, I appreciate the update.
Thanks for the update, Bara. The load time is excessively slow....not sure why, but ie seems to load quickly when Palemoon and Opera 10.6 don't. Hope this helps a little...altho I'm putting my trust in you, bud.
well, I think how it's funny 'cause the Demigod forums went down but there was a relatively large increase in the amount of players (average for the 3rd and 4th were a bit higher for a typical weekend, even with the holiday). I guess we all stopped talking about the game and just played it (:
I hate to just keep on about something, but really, occaisionally is a gross understatement. This site is slow on a fairly regular basis.
Today, I hit F5 refresh on a page, went into the bathroom, drained, came out, looked and it was still refreshing, so I went to the kitchen and got a soda, came back into my office and waited a full minute for the refresh to occur.
I was on messenger with another WC member and he was having similar woes on his end. This is not occaisional.
And, BTW, I'm not upset.....merely reporting what is.
well...occassionally....is a gross understatement.....but, nonetheless.....thanks for the detailed update....
I don't always report the booms....and so often when I do...I boom several times trying to report them....one does lose the impetus....
well..you're not wrong there....
yesterday and today....have been the two worst days for me on WC in 6 years...
yesterday.....pages trying to load.....endlessly......tried everything....left and came back 10...20 mins later....one went all day...never loaded....
amazing.....for the first time...I fully understood what fuzzy has been saying from the UK for years.....
today.....no booms.....at least...none that show Egads anymore.....just........
and this is just about every time I try to post....and if I'm sent a forum link to check out....repeatedly....site temporarily unavailable...
I know it's not your problem......but...we actually pay more for our subscriptions and software than americans do....
this is really disappointing...to put it mildly.....I hope it is corrected really soon...
despite dogged persistence...I can just see it becoming unusable if this level persists or worsens... It makes the 'BOOM' times.....look just that....like boom times.....at least pages loaded....and was liveable...
(post reply......site unavailable....take 2 )
no its most certainly is not occasional Bara, I think this thread is a bonafide example of that.
...and upset.. is a mild word.. some days for me.
btw, its been screwing up all day.... again.
Get this almost every time.
I got 3 of these just trying to get here from the home page.
And I thought I had it bad.
I am getting a number of these too.
