Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.
Also, if this post works, I will cry.
Just now from WC Homepage to recent posts it took me 2 minutes 31 seconds to fully load, then I couldn't enter anything into the reply box so I had to do a refresh. Total time to this posting ...... 5 minutes.
Yeah Jafo..that's right , we're just doom sayers and none of this is really happening and everything is just fine and normal with the site.
I guess it is therefore no surprize that there is no visible sense of urgency to fix it...........
over 2 minutes to load this page...over 1 minute to post and get error(lost post)
another minute to get page back and...well,we will see.
edit... success...I posted and edited in only 2 minutes! (plus the posting of the edit)
Ima turn this 1 into an animated GIF
needs a little more lovin but its comin
Thats all from me...its no fun beating a dead stepchild.
doom-sayers indeed.
You could say the reverse - some people spend so much time ass licking even a load of crap tastes sweet...
btw, it's taken me nearly 15 minutes to get this far. Everything normal there then...
Could always see if Dr. Frankenstein 'll bring it back to life for you.
Yeah, I thought about that if a certain former prime minister stepped out before I did. Yup, I'd love to slap that bastard around the jowls a few times... and have him feel it. Probably shouldn't mention any names... it was the one before Rudd.
Oh ye of little faith.
I'm not getting booms today but, tiiime. That's a different thing. Good thing I got some. Time that is.
Yeah, I hate it when arse lickers become so proficient they could lick yer esophagus. That's very discomforting.
Just got this at WC. Now posting from Elemental...
Hmmm, everything's just speeded up. Server reboot?
Same here Fuzzy..after a dismal day of the slows and eternal waits...it has gotten the speed back at leat most of it.
You honestly think we are all just on here making shit up? Seriously Jafo, at least pretend you care that this site's reputation is in the toilet.
That underage person shouldn't be allowed on the site.
*where's NetNanny when you need her?
Um, ya sure.
This thread is about 99% about booms and I read that post a few times to try and get your translation and all I get is
I interpret this as everyone here is full of crap.
[quote who="WhiteElk" reply="341" id="2671687"]Quoting Jafo, reply 323I'm on 'all the time'....don't see anything special/y 'wrong' with accessing the forums. Certainly the spammers get on quite efficiently [until I remove them].As I interpret Jafo's post.. it was in relation to slow page loads not booms. "
Reading the thread you will see that many are having a difficult time just getting to the point of posting as well as then getting the boom. The original post was from May 26, and it now July 4th. I disagree that tolerance has not been forthcoming. It has been well over a month that this has been going on and from what I have read, there seems to be no end in sight as the cause has not been traced thus far.
I know. I've read through this thread in its entirety because I too was frustrated over the blasted booms and wanted to see what was going on. I saw that Stardock staff was aware of the problem and they reported that they were running down some leads while waiting for the fix it guy to come back from vacation. Clearly they acknowledged it.
Then people started talking about the slow downs this weekend. I believe Jafo replied to that. [Read "accessing the forums" as opposed to 'posting'. And look to the context of the recent postings]. I don't find it logical that Jafo would be suggesting that the booming was not occurring. Stardock personnel have already acknowledged it and told us what they were doing about it. Read back through the string of posts directly before Jafo's post. See for yourself.
As to the "doom-sayers" comment: I don't see Jafo saying that the problems don't exist. I see Jafo saying that people are blowing it out of proportion in a mod mentality sort of way. I come to this conclusion in part because I have read the postings where Stardock has indeed acknowledged the booms. And partly because I see how Jafo's post fits the context of the recent slow downs and not the context of the booms. And finally, I come to my interpretation of what was meant by "doom-sayers" because I see a mob mentality effect here. In this light, Jafo's post makes perfect sense to me.
Some folks have jumped on a bandwagon and taken this thing unrealistically far. Your whipping yourselves up into a misplaced frenzy. Relax. Show some respect. Report the problems, then back off and allow them sort to it out as they can. If your unhappy about the progress then state for the record your dissatisfaction and move on. There is nothing left of this dead horse you've been beating. Your having your fun at the expense of others. There is no purpose in how far this has gone. Say your piece and let it go. Have your fun and express your creative wit in a more appropriate thread.
[/friendly suggestion]
WhiteElk, many of us have been around a good deal longer than you have and have watched the 'evolution' of this problem to a point where the site we paid to subscribe to [and many of us with several subscriptions] has become slow, and 'booming' to the point of unusability.
Patience is a virtue, and we have been. I don't think slapping whitewash on the site will turn it into a luxury condo...what is the point if the problem is how the code is written or how the servers are working....or whatever it is? If things aren't functional, then they need to be fixed. If no one at SD can do it, then please get someone who can. We paid money to be here, and we're entitled to point out the problems, individually or in a group.
If you wish, The OP could be called "Forums Problems Thread". I tried doing that a year and a half ago to try and sum up the problems individual members were having and features that weren't working well. You see how far that got. It was done to help Bara whom I happen to like a good deal, but that doesn't mean he's being employed to do that.
People will continue to let SD know when things aren't working, and that's their duty as Community Members.
I think you should realize that this Community has lost a lot of people because of various problems, but Forum performance is among them.
We want the Community we're all members of to be functional. If you object to how folks express themselves, then perhaps you should address those members. However, people will continue to express themselves [I hope politely] with or without your agreement.
No, WhiteElk has it in a nutshell.
One or two in this thread are doing nothing more than trolling for a rise out of the site's administration.
Comments such as "I don't care if I'm banned...." tend to suggest an anti-social/anti-community/anti-site mind set.
Yes, it's frustrating when [one or other of] the sites goes 'boom', just as it's likewise with slowdowns [that are most commonly apparent on weekends - as I said].
I don't see any value what-so-ever in attempting to score points with how 'clever' you can be illuminating the thread.
That Stardock's coders have acknowledged the 'boom' issue is the salient point, but one that seems lost on some posters here.
And don't be mistaken. I am not on location in Michigan either....I'm accessing the site/s from as remotely as it gets so I see the crashes too.
A little perspective, however. Wincustomize.com is in its 10th year online and in that time there has been a day or two of 'dead air', typically with server works. It's actually a pretty good record [current booms not-withstanding]....
4:15am sydney time this morning....no access to forum at all...repeated Server Not Available page....
A day or two? May 26 to July 5 and counting. A day or two?
One or two questionable comments out of a 14 page thread does not a mob mentality make and whilst it changes the focus to the "complainers", it does not solve or show a way forward to fix the issue. In fact, IMOH, this thread is quite tame in terms of the the rhetoric employed as compared to many I have seen over the years but then I guess my "mind set" should be more in line with the "proper attitude" requirements of todays WC.
Yes, when Wincustomize.com was actually offline as opposed to server-load issues and the like. [probably more like a week...over those 10 years].
And yes, post #347 took me 3 goes for it to take.
