Last week I reviewed ObjectDock 1.9. Liked it enough to fork over $20 for ObjectDock 2.0. I received an email indicating that I needed to first download and install Impulse, and then, through Impulse, download and install ObjectDock.
This is wrong!
I purchased ObjectDock 2.0, for which I should have a downloadable, standalone installer. I did NOT purchase the right to download, install and have running (as a service) a program called Impulse, and then have the right to download ObjectDock through it.
For everyone who loves Impulse and uses it for what it was originally intended, that's great! But as an ad-pumping installer that is REQUIRED whenever you purchase ANYTHING, and then, by default, remains resident as a service on your system, is just wrong.
And Stardock SUPPORT on this issue has been terrible. Only an automated reply indicating ticket number.
This is not the way to win friends and influence people.
Anyone else experience this, and have thoughts one way or the other?
Thank you.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but these are two ways of getting ObjectDock 2 WITHOUT Impulse.
We're not ramming anything. We're putting something on the table, and you're choosing to pick it up. It's up to you to read the signs we've posted that tell you what's involved with using it.
You only need one account for everything in our universe. A 'Stardock' account and an 'Impulse' account are different names for the same thing, except 'Stardock' account is not used anymore, ever since Stardock Central went away. You can log into Impulse, any of our forums, and WinCustomize with the same account.
I'm in the same boat...only approved to install/run OD on my work desktop...it is a 6 month process to get new software tested/approved and it's not worth the effort for Impulse. I guess I'll stick with the free version of OD 2.0 instead.
There is a standalone installer for ObjectDock v2. Login to the following site and click the #2 link for the appropriate application:
https://forums.stardock.com/account/regs
That will make a lot of people happy.
Standalone Setup is great...now the only thing i need is a serial number
Maybe I´m blind but in my ObjectDock 2 eMail, in the section
----- Product Serials ----
is no serial....just 2 links that lead me to impulse and a standalone setup. But the setup requires a key.
Horgath, send your request for your serial to support@stardock.com .
kk, Ticket is on the way.
Thanks for the fast response
Horgath: I have responded to your support ticket. You should be good to go.
Thanks, Dewie... you're a star!
So I grew tired of waiting for Stardock to fix any of the bugs with ObjectDock 2 and will be moving on. The first thing I will be trying is Nexus. Are there other recommendations?
I don't need to re-install Impulse just to find out there are no updates for ObjectDock. They don't communicate and they require a bloated "Software Update Architecture Framework Interface" or some such for this simple utility.
