Dawn of Victory is a modification currently in development for the RTS/4X game; Sins of a Solar Empire. It is a “total conversion” replacing the games original models, textures, UI elements, and gameplay to create an entirely new and original experience.
It is our goal with Dawn of Victory to “maintain depth, but shift focus”, taking the things that made Sins of a Solar Empire a truly enjoyable game, and apply them to a different set of rules.
Above all, the team behind Dawn of Victory is committed to only releasing a product we can be proud of. While we pride ourselves on the quality of our art assets and aesthetics changes, we hope the true value of our mod is the unique and engaging gameplay.
The storyline behind Dawn of Victory was originally little more than an excuse to create what we thought would be a unique and fantastic backdrop for the game. Loosely based on the “WorldWar” series of books by Harry Turtledove, we wanted to take the atmosphere that made World War II games so compelling, and transport it into a space opera setting.
Over time however, our backstory has grown into an expansive universe, spanning over 300 years of alternate history. Our community driven wiki, dedicated to the story behind the mod has grown to over 500 pages, with hundreds of individual contributors.
The Democratic Federation combines the best elements of the American, Andrean, British and French fleets. Large numbers of specialized ships are available, and when properly coordinated, become effective against nearly every threat.
Applicants should be familiar with normal and specular maps and have a commitment to detail. The art direction of the mod calls for mostly realistic texturing with some room for stylistic exaggerations; experience with generating "greeble" and weathering are a must. Texture resolutions range from 1024 square to 4096 square.

Alright, this mod looks awesome, i saw it 2 years ago when i started playing sins of a solar empire.
Me and my friends (5 of us) are looking forward to download this mod. However, is it still under construction? If so you guys have been working on it for years, and clearly want to bring out a perfect mod.
Is there any information if this mod is already downloadable? Or how long it will take before it is finished?
Sincerely, an impressed sins addict, whos dying to try out this mod/game, cant really say mod, cause it seems you guys make an entire new game out of it.
Also about the alien race, will they replce the pirates, as in a non playable faction? and be able to take over planets and stuff? or wont they be in it?
Theoretically, you can go to their site and ask to be an alpha tester.
Any time frame on a release?
Any time someone asks that question the unknown release date get's delayed by a month... -.-
No man knows the day or the hour of the end.
I just want to know that this mod is still going. It looks like the best mod for Sins of A Solar Empire, and I hope it will make it to a Rebellion release in the next 10 years.
This mod really is to Sins what IA2 was to SW:EaW. Hopefully it doesn't release like IA2 did...
It's one of those ones you want to see finished and actually try out--for sure. On their site you can ask to be an alpha/beta tester but I'm not sure if anyone other than the developers off the mod are. Can't hurt to look.
And at this rate if we don't ask, SoSE will be a game from the last decade before this is released. They should be flattered that people are even still asking since this thread was started 27 months ago.
It looks like a really cool mod.
Toys in the attic.
... where's the attic again?
what IS an 'attic'?
harpo
It's a space under the roof of your housewhere you put stuff you don't want to throw out but really never use.
At certain times of the year it also gets really hot and then other times it gets really cold, the level of cold depends on the way it was insulated and what the design intent was.
Sometimes there are bats.
Really mean bats.
I thought bats lived under the south-east wings of manor houses.
None of you are funny. This forum is terrible. Run your lame shit into the ground somewhere else.
obviously the bats live in the swiss or night wings of manor houses, as well as caves.
Okay, I was waiting for SwisKnight to come in and tell us what progress is being made on the Dawn of Victory mod, but it seems he just wants to insult all you bat-loving attic denizens.
My reason for (initially) posting was hoping to hear something about the progress or activity of the mod. I understand Swiss's desire to maintain this thread with decorum and his mod is "his mod" he can tease, release, lie or trash it as he wants. If he doesn't see it as part of "the community" he shouldn't post in the community forum without expecting varying reactions.
I personally would actually like to hear what the plans are now that Rebellion's out and wanted to know is this still active and being worked on in light of that?
We have already heard that all other modders suck (except for one) and the forums suck--so I'm not very optimistic about hearing anything pleasant.
Doesn't seem anything has changed, they're taking their own pace, and encouraging people to get trinity because they're still doing it in original Sins. Poor fools...
I'm not trying to ridicule. It would be nice to know how it's all going.
You have to be a bit of a masochist to willingly do that.
Just trying to keep this thread alive I guess was my bit of humor added in. I really am very interested in this mod as I have stated on previous pages.
The reworked game mechanics (from what I've seen) seem refreshing and new, opening up new strategies and just over all tactical trickery that oozes awesome-sauce. I love the storyline, probably in fact what has gotten me into table-top war gaming with Dust Warfare (a similar-ish setting though headed in an entirely different direction). I've an inkling of an idea of how much work has gone into what they've shown us so far and can only imagine how much is still left to do.
Swiss-Knight can be a forum grump all he wants, it's his right, I just want to play in the same playground he's in.
