Since Stardock keeps mentioning how Elemental is somewhat based on Master of Magic and that they would love to do a Master of Orion game, I would thought I would mention that the Master of Orion 1 and 2 was just released on Gog.com today. In case you don't already have it.
Also, Outcast was just released.
I'll have to add those to my "To buy" list together with the whole "Lords of the Realm" series.
Damn right! Already bought the original Lord of the Realms some time back. The second is still my favourite. I have the 3rd as well, but it doesn't compare to the first two. Still, the third was by no means, terrible.
Agh... accidental double reply...
MOO1 was actually released free with one of the PC gaming mags years ago, IIRC.
At $5.99, it's well worth it. It claims to work on Vista64. I'll check it out when I get home.
Oh also, Master of Magic is supposed to release as well. Not sure when, but Gog's release schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays. So maybe Thursday.... I hope...
* not that gog.com is expensive but that too many games released too close together lately.
Yep, here is the original announcement they put out in March:
"GOG.com continues to build its unmatched catalogue of classic PC games with the announcement of the deal with the famous worldwide publisher - Atari. The hit games will be added to the GOG.com catalogue throughout April and will include such glorious gems of yesteryear as Outcast, Master of Orion and Master of Magic. Today, during CD Projekt Spring Conference where the agreement with Atari was announced, Marcin Iwinski, Co-Founder of CD Projekt and GOG.com, said "This deal is really just the first step in what we expect will be a long and fruitful relationship. Atari has a tremendous number of cult classics within their grasp, and we hope to sign these in a near future!"."
And your totally right, they do release too many great games too close together. It hurts the wallet because all those 6 and 10$ games add up. I mean, releasing too many great games isn't bad... but damn money leaves quick.
Before release After release no money for food
Moooooooooooooooooooooo! Eh, by golly! The return of the cow levels!
"Yeh, the menu says it's version 1.40b23" -- quote from GoG forum. So this is not just the last official MOO2 patch 1.31, but the latest fan patch. I think it's the latest?
1. I like GoG, but I would like buying this from Stardock even more. Any chance of getting this deal on Impulse?
2. Any chance of Stardock buying the franchise from Atari and giving us the real and genuine and true "MOO 3?"
This is great.
What do you mean a "real and genuine MoO3"? To the best of my knowledge there never was an actual MoO3 made.
I think you are in denial here. You have had a traumatic experience and are suppressing it.
I know a lot of people didn't like it in it's vanilla form (fan patches are supposed to have made it much better) but that's no reason to deny it was actually made.
MoO is available for free [link removed] As far as I'm aware it isn't an illegal site.
It is no longer available there, since they have removed it. Abandonia is an abandonware site that in my opinion works a bit like a Museum. They keep old games that are no longer in circulation alive, giving an opportunity for new people to play them, and old players to download them if they lose their CD:s or floppies. But as an abandonware site they do operate in a legally problematic area. Nevertheless I think what they are doing is important.
Whenever an old game gets re-released in places like GOG, Impulse and Gamersgate, Abandonia tends to remove it. It is not very difficult to understand the reason. If a game gets back into circulation it can hardly be perceived as abandonware anymore, since it is no longer abandoned and is widely accessible.
Exactly.
Abandonia also lists some games that can't actually be downloaded from their website. Crusader No Remorse is an example. Yet the sequel, Crusader No Regret is available. It lists them both but No Remorse says ESA protected. So they still give you info about the game but are unable to make it available in some cases.
Abandonia is a great site though. Sites like these are often taken down because of legal issues however. In fact, I think there used to be one called something similar, like Abandonedgames.org or something like that, that had a huge selection but was eventually removed. Homeofthenderdogs.com also used to have games available for download, now they only list where you may be able to download/purchase them.
I reserve the right to claim DisContinuity.
Has anyone bought this and tried with Windows 7 (32 bit)? They say compatible with Windows XP & Windows Vista (32 & 64 bit).
Master of Magic is released tomorrow and has similar requeriments.
Wintersong, I would ask on the GoG forums. If they do not mention Windows 7, it may be that it does not. Someone does seem to have it running on W7 64.

Wintersong, I bought it and have it running on win7 32bit home, the only problem I have had so far is when quitting MOO2 I sometimes get an out of range message on the screen and I have to reboot. I mentioned this to GOG support but I haven't heard anything back from them yet.
