Many people are saying the world is going to end in 2012 due to the lack of further information on the mayan calendar. Your thoughts?

I never heard that Caribbeans were forced to stay where they are.
If there ever was a global catastrophe, the only thing money would be good for is lighting a fire. The real value would be in trade goods. Even if the power goes off for 3 days you will see the breakdown of society because most people depend on "The Grid" for water, food and heat. 1 week and we are back to the stone age. Lets see a CEO or a politician try and tell anyone what to do then.
We are not. You gonna pay to pay to move that many people, many of whom wont to move anyway.
And lets not get mean. You merely said you dont know why we would stay here. Legally we cant move for lame reasons like we dont want to live on fault lines. 2 not everyone has the money to move and no government is gonna pay to move us. 3 If the islands a rocking dont come a knocking
Thats fine since most places that aren't on fault lines are in areas that cannot get food or water without electricity like canada, russia and the northern US. Also if any supervolcanoes get woken up from it like yellowstone which will wipe out most of US and canada and plunge the world into a acidic ash cloud of death it wont matter where you live.

Was not my intention to be mean rather point out your "no choice" choice of words. If it is illegal I did not know it and people should be free to stay there if they wish. I would not.
This was more for the people moving to and building on when there is obviously better smarter places to settle. While I can see farms below a VOLCANO I think building a city and moving below one is rather um $%^%^&$ ^&^^%^$%.

I guess it just depends on where you live and what you grow up knowing. I grew up knowing mild tremors and having an active volcano nearby. And a dormant one as the islands peak. So while living below one seems wierd to you it doesnt to me
i don't think will happen really, just a date we can't be sure of the future untill it has come to pass, i would rather go out with a bang the to die slowly.
oh and on yellow stone i sae somthing about that on foxtell not all humans will die if that goes off but it would push us close to the edge i'm not sure people will really care untill its to late.

I just meant that it would effect those in canada and US that arent on fault lines. plus there are other supervolcanos that if they went off when yellowstone did then it would be trouble but I doubt it would happen.
it will most likely happen but we can not yet know when it would most likely go off it might not happen in our life but it could happen to desendece of yours/other humans in the future. So we should take the steps to save people before it happens if we find a way to know when it might go off, we have nearly 7 billion people on the planet if it was to go off some time really soon lots near it would die fast, but the other people that were far enough to live though would face darkness for around five years or even more lots of people will die since we would be unable to make enough food for everyone.
we are not going to be ready for it for ages because we do not think it will happen for ages or anytime soon so it would be a waste getting ready for something that could take thousand more years to go off, but we should do our best to be able to tell when it will most likely go off and then the whole world should do as much as they can to be ready when it happens, so that everyone should be given as much chance as anyone else to live through an a event like that even if they live safe from where the most damage will be done.
we are advanced enough to be able to live through and get ready for such near extinction events, the only problem is getting ready for something that will happen but we don't know when it will.

But there is one "small" problem: Usually most people dont care about others except for themselves.
that is an issue but moral pessure should be great enough for most people to do the right thing and the people that are greedy and only save themself that are found out for what they did should be punished, i would not be able to live with my self if i knew i had a good chance of saving others that i was able to help, but it is a shame that not everyone is will to save some one else if there is some risk.
I would hope people don't degrade to animals when somthing like this happens, even if my enemy was going to suffer greatly or to be wiped out when you could have saved them.
we judge others on what they do and have done and what they belive in which really isn't fair because it might seem wrong to us but right with them.
I do not like the i dea of forcing beleafs onto others or rules that isn't fair to them compelety. i hate the way my goverment treats boat people they only want a better life then what they might have to live through each day we should not denie them that and keep them in places for ages, but they should have to learn english first and understand our laws in a stressfree enviroment before being allowed to live here.
we really can't get every thing done as we say it will so in that sesnse everyone lies.
its like me saying the glass is half full but others might say its half emety, we might not all agree when the world ends because it hasn't yet its really luck if you get the right date.

I would like to also add, that even thought we dont know for sure when the world might end, 1 thing is certain: The world economy is getting destroyed in a mathematical way, and it wont be long before whole countries are bankrupt, many more people will die from hunger (people are already dieing from poverty), wars will be spread all around the world, and the whole financial system will fall in ruins.
Its like having a very very elastic balloon in a small room, that you are filling it with water, and as it is getting filled, its expanding, getting bigger by water pressure. The more water you put in, the bigger the balloon gets, and it gets to the point where it cant hold anymore, so it bursts spreading the water all over the place.

i would see a war over ressouces, the world economy is built on ressouces and the use of them, we could see a world war start over oil thats only if we cannot find something else to replace it as effictivly. we might start to head backwards if the population on earth becomes to much of a strain on the amount of ressouces needed.
the way the curent economy system is way out dated, it is our nature to do little till its to late, tomorrow might be getting better but its not. there is already to many people on the planet even though not everyone of them lives in a delevoped country the ones that do are doing the most harm. We damage the envroment around us to make room for ineffective farming and useing to much land for housing, we give litle to nothing back.
it wouldn't take long for nature to recover if we were gone.
we like to ignore warnings.
With the way we have gone through histroy we haven't changed much its safe to say we were doomed from the start.

we know our sun is half way through its life, this planet might be able to hold life for 2 or 3 more billion years sun still has 5 billion left before it dies, but useing logic that the world could be still here after the the sun is dead. should have used human domaince or somthing along that line.

America already is. We owe everybody ...mostly china billions of dollars. Well the almighty dollar is what keeps us from moving on from fossil fuels. For one I just replaced my tank water heater with a tank-less... The gas company wanted to charge 1500 for the labor which was only for 3 hours and charge me 500 for their model of tank-less over the one I bought. Had someone else put it in which dropped the cost from 2500 to 1200. They over charge cause they don't want you to switch and keep buying more fuel from them. They also lie about how much you save per month so you think it will take longer to see the economical event.....Within a 3 week period our bill dropped by 70. Thats 840 in a year.It will pay for itself in 2 years my cost and 3 years if I had them install it instead of the 10 they advertise. Sad thing is the government subsidizes fossil fuels instead of using the money to install clean energy alternatives. Even obama is an enemy with the clean coal..Clean coal is just catching the fly ash with water and holding it in resevoirs..One did break a few years back and destroyed hundreds of acres of land that is now completely unusable. Not to mention the underground coal fire in pennsylvania that has been burning for 15 years that has forced the permanent abandonment of towns in that area.
But back on topic...Geologists think we are in the danger zone of the timeline for yellowstone to erupt. Of course they give a 100,000 year period.....I think they hang out with weathermen too much.
Its not only the US that owe to everybody. Its everybody owing to everybody!!! EVERY nation in the world owes money to a bank. And I mean it. Every country in the world, and those who say they are not, of course they do, they simply cover it up, so they can seem like "oh what a rich country". Money can come into a existence though loans. The goverment needs to take a loan from a central bank, so they can use the money they printed themselves, legally.
The whole financial system is based in debt. Debt is money, and money is debt. Its a #@%#$ system, and it only favors the big international Banks.
