I started this a couple weeks ago, got really far in like a day, then have been at work non-stop ever since. But I was off yesterday and so I finished it. Couple things I want to say about it though:
There is more I wanted to do with it, but I figured it works like this, so I should let it out now before I get side-tracked on something else
It is an Excel file. I know thats not what everyone is used to, but the purpose of doing it this way is that I set it up in a way that will let anyone update the chart in a flash. All that is needed is to convert the bins to txt, then hit a giant button. it will ask you for the locations of all the files it pulls from (individually; this is one of those things i wanted to work more on), and import all those files into the chart. I did use an older version of excel (2000).
The .XLS file + PDF <--- Now in one place

This uses the Rebellion stats. Please do not update if you're only interested in Diplomacy stats.
Stats on my stat sheet: 2968 downloads as of last update.... 4945 pdf downloads.
.... I'm suprised only one person seems to be interested in this after all the requests.... and a bit curious. Are people not interested because it's an excel file? is it that I dont currently have it hosted somewhere? Is it coz of my unknown name? Does this message have an odor im not aware of?

Try here. There've already been 2 charts posted and this would be a great place to put it. (We're trying to get that page stickied by a moderator)

Spring or pre-Spring break for many and a lot of trivial posts bump it down. I'm glad to have it--thanks!.
apparently it wasnt friday enough yet.
I think I got it hosted. I was worried about having to make up some account im never going to use again just to do it. found out mediafire doesnt require a sign up, so lets see if this works
Very nicely done. Would be awesome if you could package it as an executable with it's own window and style. Still it is extreely well done. Good job.
Might try taking screenshots or something and posting them in the OP, then people would be able to see it if we don't have the right program...I mean if THEY don't have the right program... *Backs out of thread slowly before anyone realises*

Even if you don't have Excel I believe Open Office canopen it and the Excel Viewer is also free.
I've thought about this for a number of my excel charts I've made (I use it at work), the thing is there is alot to do to even get 'cells'... to the point that I'd basically be re-writing excel under another name. There might be some ways around the issue... Im not sure. As far as compatibility, thats why I used excel 2000... its older so more people should be able to use it (Has nothing to do with me not personally owning a newer version ). Also, I figure that if I do nothing more on this ever, its in an easily modifiable format that someone else could do more to if needed.
In light of those other pretty charts floating around, I've been thinking of maybe making it look better by making a background picture or something. I dont want something too distracting though, as it could make it hard to read the data.
Maybe a faded picture of the Sins wallpaper that came with the desktop theme?(Basically, it's the cover for the game if you bought the original on a disc)
Managed to do some clever things to make it look more interesting and added more details. I want to do some stuff to the capital ships chart then ill upload it
I am okay with the posting of the statistics of the ships in excel, but the formatting looks weird with the charts done for counters.
Oh, and in regards to me having the artist's touch... My brother is the artist, not me. He went to college for it and has a degree in graphic design. I'm his younger brother who luckily received a small portion of his talent. Honestly though, for a non-artist, I would like to consider myself above average, but when you compare me to him or other artists, let's just say its a landslide.
It is funny though... He does design primarily and programming secondarily. I do programming primarily and design secondarily.
And besides all that, I didn't feel like taking the time to do it by hand. My chart was a screenshot of a powerpoint slide with the little arrows pointing to everything.
I don't know... The counters page just seems weird because you have multiple sources of the same information and the formatting doesn't line up. It just looks thrown together, and makes people more likely to skim that part and misread something critical.
Awesome, SithLordAJ. Thank You. You deserve some karma.
Hey Sith Lord, the links are no longer working! It says: File Deleted. What happened? They were good just the other day.
At least I got my Excel copy saved. I had posted references to "this".
Yeah I know that happened. I updated stuff last night and for whatever reason had issues /w editing my post. tried like 50 times and had to just leave it. should be fine now though
Awesome again, yeah its working now. Even better chart than before. I referenced this in the SoaSE, Unit Reference Chart sticky.
Thanks again.
Is it possible for your Macro to also pull the Siege figures for the various Cap ships?
We know from the 1.18 changelog what the siege frigates do, but not the Cap ships. ie:
TEC Krosov Siege Frigate:
Advent Purge Vessel:
Vasari Karrastras Destructor:
For example, I believe that both the Advent Progen Mothership and Vasari 'Egg' colonizer Cap ships do "40" base planet damage.
Ill work on that soon. anyone got any feedback on the sandbox? or does no one get how that works? btw, sorry I didnt answer right away. just got a new g-card and have been 'making sure it works'.
okay, the capital ships now have a column that indicates planet health damage and population damage per second.
I'm not sure if the formula is right. what I do is take the baseDamage/basePopulationKilled and divide by the bombingFreqTime, This makes my numbers unlike what you have in the post above.
OK. Thanks. Yes, the formula is right, and the numbers jive with my research regarding best Sieges, and with Zyrxil's numbers.
Thank You Again.
I have to admit that I looked at it before, and didn't understand how it worked. So I tried it again, per your request, and find that it is actually quite easy to use. Just plug in the ship types, and the number of ships, and it gives an instant answer! But I have to wonder how accurate it is. For instance, does it accurately account for armor? And missing shield mitigation can be very big factor, but don't see how that could be possibly included.
The approach I took was to calculate Cost (@4 per crystal/metal) Per DPS & Supply, and Cost Per effective Hull Points & Supply (fleet Supply points):
And I also intend to calculate the effective DPS for each ship by race adjusted by the Damage Modifiers. Again, thanks for your efforts.
bump due to usefullness
Armor should be accounted for correctly unless theres some crazy mechanic i dont know about.
formula is: (Ships' HP)/((Enemy Ships' Atk Bonus * Enemy Ships' DPS)/(1+(Ships' Armor points * 0.05))
Maybe I could account for mitigation by assuming its maxed out all the time? or look at the opposing dps to see if it maxes it out and then do it. problem is what to do when it's not maxed out and exactly how to fit it in the formula. I'm pretty sure I read that shield mitigation works when shields are down, but that no one really knows what point it takes affect.
This excel sheet looks quite helpful, but I cannot seem to enter information Sandbox Calc. tab. Or perhaps I misunderstand it's function. Is it supposed to be a calculator as it looks to be? I'm fighting a TEC AI and I'd love to see what I would need to defeat it.
I'm sorry I did not respond sooner. It is a calculator and should be able to give you a rough idea of what you would need to match up to a fleet on a ship by ship basis. Strikecraft and capitals are not working at the moment, but those should be fairly easy to judge on their own
To be able to do this, you will need to have the excel version, PDF version wont calculate anything. The white boxes are ones you must enter information into. Do not enter anything into the colored boxes. To fill out the chart correctly, follow these steps:
Please remember that this is just to give you a rough idea. I am willing to listen to ideas to make it more detailed, with the understanding that I can never make it a perfect match and probably never better than a rough idea. I am thinking of adding the ability to have a composite fleet comparison, but that will take some work. That would allow me to put strikecraft and capitals in, but as i said, its alot of work. I'd either have to make up some way of assigning ship types to target another ship type, or treat the whole fleet as one big ship vs other big ship.
Kinda wish these forums had the auto-email on replies option. I could respond a lot quicker.
