The iPad is such a piece of trash. People who say it will replace portable laptops are total nuts. You can't even run programs on the thing. You can't render videos or anything that requires flash, making internet browsing somewhat pointless. It doesn't have games. The even removed the ability to call people with it. The iPad is a step BACKWARD.

I agree with split's FIRST post. It is a step backwards. I'd like to see something, maybe a bit bigger, that will replace laptops, but be cheaper than a laptop. (Basically, a cheaper high grade laptop that fits in ma pocket )

At the current rate, we should be able to make laptop-strength computers that fit in your pocket in the next 15 years. All we need to do is scale down a few components without losing processing power.

Not in this case, i think. All he said was that it'll never replace portable laptops. Its a simple fact. This thing can't do what a laptop can, thereby making it a different thing, not a replacement. It's like saying my couch is gonna replace a microphone. It'll never happen, because a couch and a microphone have two different purposes. Same with this.

We haven't "Slammed" anything but peoples opinion of its future. It lacks the abilities needed to fulfil the role people are claiming it takes. I am not saying it's worthless, I might actually buy one if I could afford it, but not as a replacement for a laptop.

Mine is that I despise Jobs' "aquisition" of the Apple brand and his subsequent hypocrisy defending his 'ownership'.

Of course though, these examples are definately underpowered compared to current laptops, but tiny computers are coming closer and closer.
On OP's article link, I don't understand the wierd 'mysticism' vibe the author wrote for the history of computers, but that ain't too important. I still see no reason to await the Ipad; $600 for an oversized touchscreen? Doesn't look to comfortable too use, either.

Ah, but nVidia isn't claiming that the future will only EVER BE nVidia video cards. Nor are they saying that their cards will replace microchips.
Apple is claiming that the iPad, which is really just a electronic tablet of some sort, will replace the laptop. Which I disagree with completely, because the two are two different products.
Personally, I also just don't like Apple very much. They make this whole thing that their products are all "hip" and "the latest thing" and are the absolute best thing the world has ever seen since, well, from Apple's perspective, the world began. I consider Microsoft's Windows platforms to be far superior- they have the apps I want, the games I will play, and the tools I need. Macs simply don't have what I want or need.
While I agree that calling the iPad the "iTampon" is a bit immature, Apple rather asked for it considering how close their product's name is to feminine hygiene products.

explain to me how you can sit there and bash the ipad and have never used it? for that matter, you've never seen it personally. after you buy one tomorrow, then you can bash it. you are like the person who bashes vista or win 7 and has never used either. what you're saying about the ipad may be true but you don't know if it is or not. i just find it highly amusing that someone who has never used an app or product can bash it. btw, what is "permantly"?
