Funny how you call people kids and then act like one. I have used an ipad mini. It's called an Iphone.
Now I LOVE my iphone, and I don't care that it doesn't multitask, but an iphone isn't supposed to replace my laptop or netbook.
You can take the koolaid too, but the ipad is far worse then a netbook no matter what steve jobs says.
Btw, what could I get from trying a UNIX derivate with a 1ghz cpu that I couldn't by looking up the information or trying an iphone?
It's the perfect form factor to help replace print. Books, comics, and newspaper apps have already been shown and they're even better than their paper counterparts.
Ah...Fahrenheit 451 ....
Burn'em, I say...
Re this thread....I think telling someone to 'shut up' or 'quit posting to the thread' is pretty impotent, pointless and inappropriate in light of its topic and 'opinionated' viewpoint.
Being controversial invites controversy.
The adage 'If you can't stand the heat.....' is apt.
Just curious, were you refering to MadDeez or him and the OP? I feel the OP had the right, given the outright attack against Splitshadow for posting his own opinion in the first place, and he was civil about it.
IDK just my thoughts.

Same rules apply to everyone.
I want to know when the ipad version of elemental will be out, civ allready got a game on the app store.

I just want to say that IMHO unlike what most people say right now the iPad can and will be a content making as well as a content consuming device.
I have a friend who is an animation stident and he likes to go sit at pubs and sketch people things like Sketchbook Pro would fall right at his corner, not to mention that apps like Dragon Dictation already allow you to insert large amounts of text without moving a finger on your iPhone (now coming to the iPad) and slew of other 3rd party apps that will make the iPad a more atractive device than it might seems right now (I saw on YouTube an app for iPad to build apps and web sites...).
Some people don't like Apple just because, that fine for them, some people don't like the iPad because they think that the technical specs aren't good enough that is fine and dandy for them, what I don't understand are folks who have the nerve to talk smak about people who do intend to buy the iPad, who are they to judge what I or other folks need and wants? I respect folks when they say that the iPad/iPhone/banana/etc is not for them what I don't respect is people who jump on an hate wagon just for the thrill of talking smack about other people.
I'm not pointing fingers to anyone here it's just a general observation on my experiance around the web.
p.s here is the civ game for the iPad: Civilization Revolution
I have no doubt the IPad does a good job at what it is, that is, a glorified IPhone that doesn't make phone calls. But to say it will replace laptops and such is rediculous.
Except for the fact that it's an LED screen, which is still not good in sunlight and will tire your eyes out like any other computer screen. The reason the Kindle is so popular is because it uses e-ink, which relies on the refleciton of light rather than emitting light of its own, making it much more readable, not to mention longer lasting.
Tablet PCs have existed for years and do everything the iPad does and more.
@DeCypher00 mate I don't know if you ever used a tablet PC, I have and the experiance was less than satisfactory.
i KOO LAID - a reference to Prince Andrew perhaps?
a STARK reminder...
That article was a real jerk fest. It's not every day you get to see someone so expertly gloss over the glaring defects of a product by turning them into benefits...
It's going to replace Windows because it's simple and can't do anything a real operating system is capable of!

It's perfectly readable.
When the president does it, it's not illegal!
I've heard this since I was seven years old and my eyes have never felt tired after staring at a computer screen for 10 hours at a time.
No one here is trying to bash people who buy the iPad, we're just having a good laugh at an article written by a technically inept individual about the future of technology he doesn't understand. The iPad just doesn't do anything spectacular compared to a netbook or a laptop. It's a small device that does a few tricks that is being compared to processing powerhouses and lauded as the beginning of the second coming of Steve Christ and his Apple band.
I can't help but think that in all that time there were only LCDs [CRTs were before your time]...
A CRT at 60hz or lower won't be good for you at 10 hours at a time....
I've heard of CRTs before though, although I had associated them with TVs rather than monitors (and after a quick Wikipedia scan they appear to have been present in both). So do LCD screens not hurt your eyes? Several doctors have told me so, but what do they know, they could be spreading old information
Jafo sobs into his beer.....
Ah, the yoof of today....
The real issue is staring at the same focal length hour after hour. It doesn't matter what you are doing....looking at a Computer screen [any sort]....driving on a highway....or, like me....Concentrating on a piece of race track in order to keep an eye on what the Formula One drivers [or MotoGP riders] are doing wrong, and to whom. ALL those instances require the same thing....a rest/change from time to time.
Wow. You guys sound like CRTs were 20 years ago or more. I still have Viewsonic CRT I bought for $150 about ten years ago(about the time LCDs were coming out, but still sucked for gaming) that I still use as a second monitor. I decided a long time ago I'd replace it when it died, but after thousands upon thousands of hours and probably close to a thousand games to grace it's screen it's still going strong.
It looks like someones taken to already trying to make an Ipad killer. Another stupid name, but the Android powered Wepad is looking like it's trying to take all the shortcomings and complaints of Apple's offering and giving it features people want. The downside being that for the time being though the Wepad(Gawd, the jokes may get worse than the Ipad with this) is vaporware, but the article seems hopeful of a more solid announcement within a few months.
I dont feel there is anything wrong with the ipad its just a little overpriced like every apple product.. especaily since they have those laptops that have the spinable monitor to make it the same thing as an ipad anyway. I just wonder how many people will accidently skip 50 pages ahead in their book by touching the screen on mistake.
I'm not sure if it is over priced, Sure I would love to get the 64G Wi-Fi 3G model for 499 but when you think about all the tings that you can do with it that in the past you could do with separate devices...
Foe example, you no longer need a portable DvD player, no need for a portable gaming consule, if you are a student no need to buy and carry 600$ worth of books each year (mind you that probably won't happen until next year at the soonest), also for students, there are alreasy iPhone and iPad 3rd party stylus for sell who here don't think that there are several "notbook" apps in the works as we speak?
I don't know if I would get the Wi-Fi only model or also the one with 3G, luckey for me the iPad won't reach Israel until august so I have time to learn from other users experiance, hopfuly until then the number of iPad apps will continue climbing.
I already got solutions for the current lack of proper notbook like apps (thos that will alow you to write on the iPad like it was a regular notbook but will add all the cool fetures that a tablet can add, for example zoomable grid) i already scan my lecture notes and send them as a PDF file to my email every day but I hope that until the summer more organic solutions will come out.
Oh, and I realy realy realy want to have elemental on the iPad, if there is one game that I would love to be able to carry with me and that wouldn't suffer from touch interface it is Elemental.
Cheers
Heck, I just read the thread for the first time and I am leaving too! Got better things to do.
