I bought Object Dock 2 (have 1.9 installed) and it's now 3 hours since trying download and install what i paid for.
I had to download some "Impulse Driven" nonsense which completely messed up my machine, which i have spent hours trying to do system restore and either get it off my machine or get it on my machine so i can get the software i paid for.
But right now frankly i have had enough, i did not spend money to buy a program only to waste my day jumping through hoops and repairing my system. So i either
A) Want the download for Object Dock which i paid for (No i do not want some extraneous Impulse software it will not install)
Want my money back
I do not care which one of the above happens, so long as it happens and happens fast. I have bought thousands of software titles over the years, and this is hands down the worst experience i've ever encountered so much so i'm furious right now.
Having the option of a separate installer, rather than using Impulse would be a great option. Some people only buy one program, and having to use a big system like Impulse to get the program is a real pain, and if you're on dialup, it's hopeless.
I find Impulse to be very useful as an organizer because I have ObjectDesktop; among other things, it alerts you when there is an update to any of your programs.
I've never seen a popup when I've used it.
Your problems are very unusual. I can appreciate the frustration, but there is no free substitute for ObjectDock Plus--you get multiple docks and tabbed docks for starters. Somebody around here will be able to sort it out at some point.
This is not going to happen. Impulse is the chosen method of installation for several reasons. It can seem a bit much when you have only one program to install, but there are dozens of programs which can be downloaded and installed via Impulse. And of course, Impulse is an update platform, so all your software can be kept up to date. It would cost a lot more money to develop individual installers for each of these programs for each O/S. Personally I prefer the lower cost of the programs as they are.
I now have had several computers, numerous O/S installs between XP, Vista and W7. Never once have I had problems either installing or using Impulse.
Same here.... If it bugs you THAT much, install your purchased program and then uninstall Impulse........ No big deal.
I think the point was he can't install Impulse and it messed up his pc. Quite how Impulse can mess up a pc I don't know, it's just a program. I think the pc must be in dire condition already if that has happened.
I'm actually considering getting a refund. I don't have a problem with Impulse but I bought OD2 in order to replace my Win7 taskbar and system tray. But the system tray is still unusable and the taskbar is buggy, I don't care about any other feature of the new version, the reason I bought OD2 doesn't work. I'd like to know if this issue will be fixed or not. If it's not fixable, I want a refund because I don't want to be stuck with something that has no use for me.
The issues:
Interesting....they work here just fine.
Trust me,its possible.
Impulse has worked fine for me 95% of the time...the one time it didnt it took out a fresh Vista install while trying to put WB on it.I've been a professional PC repairman and I couldnt get it to recover...had to re-install Vista and try again.
The issue probably COULD have been resolved without a re-install but the very angry Brainman gave up after wasting several hours.
Sometimes things just go wrong.
weird but i too have had problems with impulse (granted not many) but it was always after a fresh install of windows (vista,7) it does seem that it is after a reformat and a reinstall of either vista or 7, funny you would think just the opposite, anyways i have a lot of free time on my hands so i never looked at it as a big deal, if i was pressed for time well thats a whole new ballgame there, speaking of ballgames sox beat the yanks last nite
Woohoo! jpmurph, you a Sox fan?
Are you getting the system icons like sound, networks, battery etc. working? Do you know how? I have Win7 64-bit and they don't show up in the sys tray. When I select the option to have all the icons displayed or if I creat a new systray tab, those same icons aren't clickable.
yes i am a native new englander and still live just south of boston we take our sports teams very seriously here
LOL!!!
Dude, your PC is messed up. I find it hilarious that you think Impulse did this to your system. I've installed and used Impulse (together with ObjectDock) over many operating systems and on many occasions and NEVER had one single problem. The fact that you say the you "had ads coming out of my taskbar for something completely unrelated to the application" and that you think Impulse was the cause shows me how much (or little) knowledge you have regarding PC's. So stop your litte rage-rant and try to figure out what else could have gone wrong. If millions of people are using this software without any issues it's quite simple to deduce that something is wrong on your side. Stardock isn't your local tech-department.
So you want 10$ back because you screwed something up? That's funny....Try adjusting your attitude and then you can ask for help. I think the Stardock member(s) that replied to your (very arrogant and rude) post were very helpful in the advice they gave you, but you would have none of it...YOU were clearly wronged by this "rubbish" that is a "discredit to the software industry". Grow up! I would suggest that in the future, you actually read before you buy and make sure that you know what the requirements are. Surely with ALL of your experience with "thousands of softwares" you should have learnt this by now?
And to the other complainers out there...you have paid not just for the final product - you paid for the BETA version as well. You can't expect everything to be perfect when participating in a beta...that's what the beta is for...much less ask for your money back. If you wanted a perfect product, you should have waited patiently for the final version to be released. Stardock was very clear on what you were purchasing, so you have no-one to blame but yourself. I'm so sick of people thinking that everyone and/or the world owes them something.
As for me - I'm enjoying the product very much, thank you Stardock. I also have the bug of certain system tray icons not displaying (even though there's a list item for it to display) and some not being clickable, but I'm sure this was already brought up in the Beta discussion thread.
Oh and PS..."...and a company insisting i install their Adware on my system and a waste of a day when i have much better things to do." -I'm still giggling over this...
Just a 'gentle' reminder, guys.
This thread is in the Stardock Support section and thus it is imperative that comments/responses be specific to the issue and preferably NOT judgemental....
I ought to also point out that the 'ads' unrelated to the application would have been from Impulse Tray which can be disabled either by right clicking it, or from within Impulse itself.
Personally I would prefer the software asked the user on first install if they would like to see those special offers (some people will want them others will not) and so avoid any negative PR from that feature.
Regarding refunds, it would be unusual to issue a refund on a beta application before it has been released as any issues in the current builds might well be resolved by the final version. It is important to report the issues though so there is a good chance of the issues being resolved.
I agree and can understand how some people would think of that as adware.
