March 30:
Beta Release
July 29th:
Beta v1.98 released
https://www.wincustomize.com/article/389526/
I have some weird problems with minimizing and restoring to a running program tray. I have this issue with Windows Media Player and VLC. When minimizing them, they slowly minimize to the tray - taking almost two seconds - you can just watch the open windows shrink slowly to the bar. On restoring, basically the same thing a slow return to the original size, however after the slow restore completes, Windows Media Player will essentially restore again at the correct speed (it sort of does a quick blink. These are the only two applications so far that have this problem.
Vista 32, Dell XPS420 Quadcore
BTW- I absolutely LOVE the new ability to edit tabs on the fly just by right-clicking! Completely awesome!
Agreed.
Definitely, completely awesome.
One more thing, would it be possible to add a slider for icon spacing (between icons) to the objectdock config? It's kind of a hassle having to edit the config file.
What setting, which config file; this is new to me.?
Awesome Idea!
Steve, he's talking about the fact that, in order to space out your icons on a standard zoomer, there needs to be a blank png tile associated with the dock with settings in the ini like this:
[Tile]Image = blank.pngResizeIconByPercent = 75OffsetIconByPercentX = 50OffsetIconByPercentY = 50
Ah, that I know about, I had thought that maybe a new code had been added that I was not aware of.
On Windows 7 x64 Ultimate I am noticing very sluggish behaviour when minimising and restoring windows from the zoom bar. Never happened with previous version of Objectdock also never happened in 18 months of running Win7, started only after loading this beta. The day I first loaded the app it did not do this at all, only after the first reboot after loading did it start. Anything I can check? any suggestions? Nothing has changed with graphics drivers or anything else since loading Objectdock a week ago.

mitchellkrog, are you running the first beta (v. 1.97) or the second one (v. 1.98)?
I noticed this with the first beta, but it seems to be fixed now with beta 2.
Hey im having a few pros with the new update
The first is the fact that the network access icon dont stay in the task tray after a reboot, you would need to readd it every time
And the next is with the flyout menu, the first is that its really slow especially when opening a folder with several folder/files and even more so when dealing with a directory overflow (having so many document that it switch from it original layout, to a list view) which brings up the next prob
The list view for a directory with a large number of document isnt very attractive, so i would love the ability to maybe change it to a grid layout r something like
I understand that this is still in beta, but wanted to say that yall r doing an excellent job so far, and i look forward to future improvements in the software
Right-click in your system tray dock and choose 'Configure system tray icons.' Make sure your network icon is checked; or you can check the box or 'Show all tray icons at all times.'
Unfortunately, this has always been the case.
Thanks for the reply mirsguy, where do I check the version number I am running?
Open Impulse and go to the My Software Tab. Find OD Plus 2 in the list and click on it. The update day and version number will show at the bottom of the window. Mouse over that info and you get the full version number, in my case- v1.98.036
Thanks Wizard, I checked and it's 1.98, not 1.98.036 like yours.
Is there any way to get both system tray icons and my open programs to show up in the dock on a zoomer dock?
I also haven't been able to find any way to turn on active program indicators so that I can click the icon and just bring up an already running instance. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.
It does not appear so.
Open the OD config. Go to the 'Settings' tab. Click on the button that says 'Advanced Tweaks.' The first checkbox there should do what you are looking for.
On Windows 7 x64 bit.
With the paid for beta.
The docklet "Start Menu" opens the volume mixer as distinct from the start menu.
Enabling the system tray from the "On my dock" then "Enable taskbar / system tray" under "More Options" in the "Settings" window seems to work well in terms of showing system tray icons in either the "Show all tray icons at all times" or the "Choose Tray Icons" methods.
However, selecting the "Customize notification icons..." under the "System tray options" results in an information message which says "You can customize icons in your ObjectDock system tray by clicking and holding on any icon."
When clicking and holding on any icon, nothing happens, i.e. the customizing of the icons in the system tray does not eventuate no matter how long the holding of the mouse button is done and no matter which button on the mouse is held.
New bugs I discovered today on OD2 v1.98 on Win 7 x64.
1) each time I start my PC, Objectdock is moving my Windows Sticky Notes to different parts of the screen and also resizing them. Quite annoying.
2) OD2 hung on me today for the first time, the zoom bar would not show up and when I minimzed a window when this happened the window went all skewed and out of focus. Had to kill the task and restart the application.
4) Zoom bar is NOT obeying the setting "stay on top" it stays on top sometimes but for some applications, like photoshop for instance it disappears (autohides)
Thanks for the suggestion, but when I tried, they didn't even show up in 1.9 which is pretty odd since I was using 1.9 very successfully for the last couple of months. I even tried uninstalling both, reinstalling 1.9, and then upgrading to 2.0 Beta without success. Do you think uninstalling both, deleting files left after uninstall, and cleaning/repairing the registry would help?
Looks like you're right there, but I just got around that by making a very small zoomer dock that just has the system tray icons on it. I don't know why I didn't think to try that before. Ironically though, it's pulled up another small issue by using that workaround. If a program starts in system tray before objectdock it doesn't always show up on the dock I have specified for system tray icons. My AV, FW, WiFi, battery, and most other programs have no issues but programs like Cisco's Clean Access Agent (for my university's network) won't show up unless I delay them 30 seconds.
I would simply delay all programs by 30 seconds if that alone would fix the problem, but I can't delay my Synaptics touchpad for some reason. Any tips on either delaying Synaptics or on how to get it to show up regardless? I'm obviously on a laptop and depending on the class/lab I'm in I use my USB mouse, my touchpad or a combination of both, so turning the touchpad on and off is something I have to do on a surprisingly regular basis. (There's a hotkey for it on my computer, but it doesn't seem to be working even with the newest drivers)
Another problem I'm sure has already been listed is objectdocks inability to launch a 64bit program. Any workarounds found for that?
Oh, and not an issue with objectdock per say, but when I first tried to install it with my COMODO FW/Defense+ enabled my computer would freak and freeze. It would resolve itself after 120 seconds, which is how long I've got COMODO set to show alerts, but it was just an unusual occurrence since I've never had COMODO freeze during an installation before.
Just had to disable it for the installation, re-enable it after, and tell it that objectdock was an allowable program and I've been good since. Hope that helps anyone if they run into a similar problem.
When is the next beta release due?
LOL!!!
Seriously though. It was pulling teeth to just get this beta update. Hopefully they move faster with the next one. If it mirrors the timeline for this released beta and the original beta drop then it will be Nov-Dec.
This worked great for both GMAIL and FACEBOOK Thanks so much
I won't hold my breath then
I found the problem with OD2 not obeying the setting "stay on top", there is a more options link that has an option "Autohide for maximised applications"
This new auto-hide feels quite sludgy on the reveal. I don't mean due to lag. I think it spends too long in the presentation moment where all the icons come up, then spread out. Partly since we've tied zoom-in/zoom-out/autohide speed into one setting. Sliding it towards quick doesn't improve anything since I'd compare that to someone driving their car towards you and throwing on the brakes last second. Not fun. I'm trying for a responsive reveal, but steady zooming icons. I could honestly go for something that makes the presentation less dramatic, where I'm not spending an actual amount of time watching the icons come up, then after the fact slooowly (in my mind, as a user seeking a snappy feel) spread out. An eventual goal should be splitting the settings and throwing in an option for constraining zoom in and out, not autohide since it's decidedly unrelated.
