szo, all that is needed for the 1.19.12 textbin gui to work with rebellion is to copy the convertdata_rebellion.exe to the folder that the gui exe is in, then run the gui, and work on a folder with rebellion in the path you do NOT even need to rename the convertdata.
as at this point in time I have NOT released an updated set of utilities, and the only needed work around to work with rebellion is to COPY the convertdata_rebellion.exe from the steam apps folder into the sinstextbinner.exe's folder, and you do NOT need to re-name it, just make sure the path to the files you are wanting to convert has rebellion in ONE of the folders in the path to the folder set, eg this is the path to my reference sets on one of my computers F:\sins reference\sins of a solar empire rebellion 1.01 and it has all of the folders to be worked with inside it.
Well that"s exactly what I did at first also. But I get a "ConvertData_OriginalSin.exe has stopped working" error for every file when I do that, and its quicker just to restart my computer when that happens. This is why I replaced the 3 ConvertData's In the old StadockGames Folder. In any case, it works for me that way. Perhaps it could also for others that are having trouble too.
as my gui USES the path to the files to determine WHICH convertdata to use, obviously your path to the files does NOT have the expansion name in the path to the files, which is WHY it defaults to original sins, and the convertdata_original_sins.exe does crash and stop responding on ANY file that is encoded from a different expansion, as does the correct convertdata, but from a different patch/version number, and this is MOST frustrating.
and another post to let everybody know that I have finally uploaded MY ref files set for rebellion 1.02 to my dropbox
edit : removed for being incorrect information. _loki771
I did what you said, Loki, and it still doesn't work. Says the conversion took '0 seconds or 0 minutes'.
sz0,loki771,portalboat, the reason you are having this issue is that you are NOT following the gui operation instructions from the GUI thread & the step you are not doing is the copy the entire game folder(including it's name) and pasting it into the folder you want your reference sets in. if the gui does NOT find one of the three known expansion names ie 'entrenchment, diplomacy, rebellion' and version number, it assumes that the files are for vanilla or originalsins and uses the convertdata_originalsins.exe in the game's installed location, but if it find either a version number OR known expansion name it then uses the convertdata_expansion##.###.exe(where the ##.### is the found version number) and if it does not find the versioned convertdata_expansion then it falls back to the convertdata_expansion in the game folder.
I completely agree with you harpo, & your tool DOES work as you have described, I am not disputing that. Thank you again for a fantastic tool. If people find its not working, then they have done something wrong, its a simple as that.
Like many things, there's more than 1 way to do it, like the way I have described, perhaps not that well, I'd have to admit but its the best I can do for now. Perhaps I shouldn't have if it makes people more confused. If so I am sorry, please note that this is not the way it was intended work.
If that doesn't work either, well you've still got it wrong. Go back over the gui operation instructions from the GUI thread and try to get it right that way, as this is how harpo has designed to work. Follow it right and it will work!
STICKY!
yes it would be beneficial for modders and new to modding players for this thread to be a sticky,
BUT
that decision is entirely up to stardock in their wisdom( if any)
bump for rebellion 1.03 ref set release
Thanks harpo! Makes it alot easier to try to learn little bits of changing certain files for more fun in my eyes
Yarlen, can you please sticky this thread? Thanks again for all you've done, harpo.
-Draco
I had thought Harpo's thread was stickied already!
This should have happened long ago.
I think we need a new forum section for "Utilities" to encourage people to develop things like this and where they can be prominently stickied.
^ Read above. Considering some of the useless things that get stickied, I'm in awe this hasn't been already. It has helped so many people.
For those who didn't notice...Yarlen had this stickied as soon as the request was made.
This is Sparta!
and another ref set for rebellion 1.031
Is there another place to get the Sins 1.193 files? I go to file factory and put in teh words wait teh time and nada, no download stats. Tried looking for the text bin programs but didn't find them on WinCustomize.
