Hello sinfull people,
destroyed any empire's lately?
So i started playing last friday. And after 3 finished games and finally won the last of the 3 I started an
epic single player map, 150 planets (or so), max distance phase lines, 10 players, etc... truly an epic session. I have written a small revieuw on what happend until now.
After a few hours I was backstabbed by my former ally and I lost my home world (earth), as my defence force just split up to assist the front lines I had to consider my home planet lost. At the primetime of my empire i controlled 8 planets including 3 terran worlds. Now my western terrran planet (new eden) was assaulted by an enemy unknown. And forced the defence fleet back loosing a capital ship. The remainder of the 3e fleet swore revenge against the alien forces that sacked our homeworld and took off toward the homeplanet of the aliens.
meanwhile, leaving my empire criplled with 3 worlds. 1 terran, 1 vulcanic and 1 astroid (chokepoint). The astroid planet was quickly lost against another empire that won it over using something that causes the alliegence to be lowered. ( I dont know how this works)
So now I had a war going on against 3 other empire and I started on plans to leave this starsystem. Sending out scouts to all corners of the galaxy I discovered a small star with none of the other empire's presence. After that it all went very fast, recruiting a colony fleet while the 3e fleet was busy taking sweet revenge on the first alien homeworld.
Now we are settled in the new star system on the only terran world there. The remainders of the 3e fleet have joined. And we are kickstarting the empire.... to be continued.
So I thought it would be fun to write a bit about my epic single player game. but now i'm looking for someone to teach me a bit in multiplayer... I love the truly epic game with big starsystems and long phase lanes but i understand that won't really do well in a online game.
I hope to hear from you guys.

Welcome. I'm fairly new myself. The big games can be played online as they can be saved and picked back up later (if you can network and schedule it). Hard to find "pick up" players for a big map though.
150 worlds with ten players might be a little sluggish if laggers or older computers with slower processors are in your player mix.
Sounds fun the game you played. I am working on a largish map now--just getting it balanced. Takes awhile to tweak.
Cya in-game or on forum.
You should probably stick with single player for a couple more weeks until you feel very comfortable with all of the basic mechanics, the different units, the different races, their tech trees, and their strengths and weaknesses. I do hate to dissuade anyone frome coming online, but I think that if people wait until they feel really good about their knowledge of the game they'll have a much better experience. Do note however that there have been a lot of newer players around lately and it's also possible to get online and play comp stomps, humans v. AI. You could come online and play comp stomps immediately. (Human opponents are much, much tougher than AI, at least AI that hasn't received obscene buffs like the Vicious AI.)
Welcome Benson!
Dirty speaks volumes when saying it's in your interests to get the game mechanics down before venturing into the multiplayer community. You will save yourself and your allies a great deal of frustration.
For instance, the "allegiance lowering" phenomenon you report is actually what is known as "Culture". Culture is spread from broadcasting structures you construct in your planets logistical slots. It crawls through space from planet to planet spreading your populations propaganda, religion, or "allegiance" as it were. Once a planets allegiance reaches zero you have lost control of the population, and therefore it is essential to monitor the phase lane color changes which indicate the travel speed and direction of the spread. You can research escalating degrees of culture amplitude from within your civilian research tree.
Culture can be very effective against a fortified choke planet that you might otherwise wish to avoid a military confrontation, or divert from altogether. Just put up multiple broadcast stations, and/or a star base with culture upgrade on an adjacent planet of your own. It will also act to prevent your nearby planets colonization by opposing forces should you lose one of them to bombardment because your culture will be too strong to allow foreign occupation.
If you continue playing you will uncover more questions that you will be able to solve so that wen you do join the multiplayer community, you will be experienced in the fundamentals, and can focus on current strategies and play styles.
Again, Welcome and Happy Solaring!
Thanks for the welcome guys,
I finished my big game yesterday, And figured out how culture works thanks to your help Protoplazm, thanks.
At the moment I only own the vanilla game, but trinity should arive this friday. And it might be a smart thing learning some more single player, I haven't played any race but TEC.
I did tried to start up an online game yesterday but I could not log on to iron clad online. So I have to solve that first before I can play online.... ----> searching forum for solutions..
I had some trouble logging in and despite having Alloy enabled had to manually set my router port to allow Sins to go Ironclad. that solved all of my issues. There is post somwhere on that. Good luck.
Welcome, Let us know when you get online. I for one will join in comp stomp games with newer players to help them get a feel for the online game. I played SP for 7 months before venturing online and still got my arse handed to me when I finally joined. It takes a little effort to learn some of the tactics necessary for online play and also a little time to learn the proper counters.
Good luck and have fun.
Do note that you cannot get online unless you have the most up-to-date version of the game. So if you haven't already downloaded Impulse and registered your game with it, it's something you'll want to do. I'm pretty sure the current version of standard Sins is v1.19.
Greets there other new guy!
and...
Thanks dude under me!
Dude, I love your Munchy Monster avatar!
Me want cookie.
i have yet to win any games because of illum spammers. ive had the game since last night and have lost 3 of my 4 games. im working on it but its just such a shame that you cant get a large scale MP going id love to get 9 of you guys and do a 2v2v2v2v2 or something on a large random you know what..... I vote that we all schedual this and do it

@btybourke
Yes, illum or any LRF spammer can be frustrating to deal with. However, if they spam nothing but LRF's there are ways to counter them. I've included a replay for 1.05 entrenchment (watch it quick or make up full backup of your current sins instalation) that shows a true illum spammer, who didn't even bother to build flak. I started with civilian labs betting I could get an eco up before engaging the enemy in a 2v2 battle, but he pressed a little earlier than I wanted plus our home worlds were 2 asteroids apart so I had to end up adjusting my strategy. It's an interesting battle and you might find it useful to watch.

It's a shame that only a tiny percentage of all Sins purchasers ever wanted to try it online, which makes it hard to find game. What version of Sins are you? There are still 5v5s in Diplomacy, but they're much less frequent than before Diplomacy was released when multiple 5v5s started every night in Entrenchment.
Well I decided to wait for a bit with online sins. Mainly because today I finally will receive Trinity....
So I will play a bit single player on diplomacy and then I will join u guys online.
Hope you will go easy on me
see ya soon.
I'm not sure what to advise. You might actually find more newer players for standard vanilla Sins. It seems like almost all of the pros have either Entrenchment or Diplomacy now, so the people who only have vanilla Sins are the ones purchasing older copies off of store shelves (the new players).
So in my last post I said I was gonna get trinity last friday...
But luck was not on my side and it seems that trinity is again delayed where I live, next friday... I hope it is in by then.
Waiting sucks.
