So I'm trying to find more PC games for my wife. She doesn't like anything that invovles combat so it makes it hard to find games she'll like. Can anyone recommend any non-combat RPG games? A long time ago I played a couple like that, but I don't know if there's any around anymore.
Thanks.
I am thinking you might be thinking about adventure games not RPGs maybe. Adventure games are a bit... puzzle like but there is a character involved with them. They're not really in style anymore but a few are released now and then. Personally I can't recommend any recent games since I haven't played them in a long time but if you are familiar with GOG.com, they have some of the oldies but goodies on there. King's Quest, Space Quest... Myst. They're not going to look great now but they run in xp and vista (they're working on compatibility with 7).
Let me second the recommendation for www.gog.com if you are looking for classic adventure games.
This weekend only there is a sale on RealMyst, which is a classic adventure game. Like $5, but Win 7 could be a problem for anything gog sells, see the forums. No combat as such, but you solve a mystery with a dark side. You also view a walkthru on youtube unless your wife has an IQ above 180. I was too stooopid for the Myst series myself.
Much better would be The Longest Journey, praised by many as the greatest Adventure game of all time. Gog sells it for $10. And the adventurer is female too! There is somewhere a forum of fanatical players. By george, I've almost talked myself into it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTt6Tu-4KDk is the trailer for the original game.

Actually, you both might get involved in these two games, which would be nice.
Then too, of course, there's always The Sims! (I will go eat a raw Jalepeno to punish myself for saying that.)
I sort of agree with your wife. As the years roll on, I get more and more tired of games where all the time we are either killing people or giving them cancer. I would really sort of prefer a game like "Bob Bunny Has a Good Day."
Oblivion...
I know, it was terrible of me. It's still true though, the optimal method of beating the game is to run through it all.
Excellent, yea, that's exactly what I was looking for. I haven't played one in quite a long time so I forgot there was a whole genre for those. Anyway, I went for Myst V. The game is a few years old, circa 2006, but it works great on my wife's computer because it doesn't have a real high power video card. Of course, her card is probably more powerful than a top-of-the-line card was in 2006. I might even play the game myself. It's a pretty good looking game, especially considering its age.
I also looked at RealMyst and it runs fine, but that's a really old game, the graphics are pretty basic. Myst V is a lot more modern. I'll check out that Longest Journey. That might be another one my wife would like.
I'll hang on to that link for when my wife is ready for something else.
Thanks guys.
If you have not tried Machinarium I would suggest that you drop everything and get it.Right now.
Not the longest game by far.. yet it has such an intriguing style as well as an amazing score...I wish I could go back and play it through again for the first time.
It really was one of the only games I have ever played where I have been able to just sit back and enjoy each moment.
I'd also recommend the Tex Murphy series (under a killing moon, pandora detective, overseer) which can be got on GOG - they're puzzle/detective based but filled with character+with a strong story, and the graphics are surprisingly good for such an old game (especially for pandora detective+overseer) - you can pick them up at GOG as well
I know a few good Hentia games that don't involve any combat, then again if she doesn't like combat I'm guessing she probably won't like a game that has massive amounts of sex in it either. A difficult task lays ahead of you, sir.
You can't do better than the Monkey Island series. One of the best. They've just re-released the original Secret of Monkey Island with updated graphics and if you've never played it, it's a MUST DO.
