Originally developed by Cavedog back in 1997, the rights eventually came into the hands of Atari who has given us permission to re-release it.
Stardock is handling the support for Total Annihilation directly and includes a new launcher that helps automatically configure the game for modern systems, streamlines getting multiplayer games going and includes easy access to tips and tricks for getting the most out of it.
As part of Stardock's support for the game, it will be releasing subsequent updates (with Atari's permission) to further streamline multiplayer, incorporate Impulse Reactor and work with fan sites to incorporate new content into the "official" release. It will also be further enhancing the release to prepare it for eventual availability on other digital distributors.
In other words, we’re treating Total Annihilation similarly to a newly released title with ongoing updates wherever possible.
The package includes Total Annihilation + Core Contingency as a single integrated package.
What makes Total Annihilation particularly special is that (depending on your modern setup and trouble shooting skills) you can get the game playing at crazy high resolutions and the game runs fine.
Total Annihilation at 2500x1600
Now, a word of warning – if you’re a PC novice, Total Annihilation won’t be for you. It’s a serious RTS and, depending on your setup, we are talking about a game developed 14 years ago when DirectX 3 was state of the art. Running it in a window has had good success for me on my Windows 7 64-bit desktop.
If you try to run it full-screen at a very high resolution you can end up with a goofy color mess of it. Anything beyond 1024x768 in full screen can be a crap shoot but if you run it windowed, you can go nuts. Back in 1997, anything beyond 1024x768 probably seemed like science fiction. The fact it will run at 2500x1600 is just…wow.

The 200 unit limit shouldn't be hurting your enjoyment that much, but...
Yes, it's totala.ini (make sure that you have show file extensions for known types turned on so you can actually change the type, rather than naming it totala.ini.txt) and it goes directly in the TA folder.
OK, restated my issue since no real solutions as of yet
My connection is fine i play other games online
I dug out my old computer. It occurred to me that all my maps should still be on there - and they were
totala.ini yes.
I recommend getting the TA Demo recorder instead of manually increasing the unit limit your self.
Features with the TA Demo recorder:
Ability to mark on the screen, and create text markers.
Ability to see the LOS(Line Of Sight) of your allies.
Ability to make a unlimited line of structures (such as wind generators), and add 100 units to a factory instead of going by 1's or 5's.
Ability to record and watch TA games.
1500 unit limit
reduces the amount of odd cheating in multiplayer games.
download it here - http://d-gun.com/filez/tademo99b2.exe
Update it with this - http://d-gun.com/filez/tadr1.0.0.545.zip
fyi to all who get the TAdemo thingy. either the demorecorder itself or the patch also installs a cheater unit for the ai
oh yes, forgot about that. it can easily be edited out however. too lazy to post how atm, i will post how later.
Fantasic to see TA back.
Play a LOT of TA still online (MP).
Not trivial to get it working through Firewall for MP but good sites on net:

On W7 done forget to allow TA in the Allowed games list (and still just pray it works)!
I play XTA (re-balance, ADV Moho Mines, Adv Radar Jammer etc.) which is a big mod for TA and adds a lot of useful stuff, but TA is a great game in its normal form.
+1 for BT to be added
+1 for XTA option to be added (I even have an unnofical XTA provided by the XTA guys which solved a few bugs but never got officially released).
This game PROVES its about gameplay and not all about Grafix; and its a damn shame so many companies have lost their way.
1997, and STILL is probably one of the best games ever.
For when it was released ('97) TA has great graphics. Far better than others around that time...like Red Alert 1 and Starcraft 1.
thanks for the sites bad2bone
also see my "ultament multiplayer set up thread".
bang
I would assume so, it is right after leaving the scenario description part. This is just the generic game though I have not downloaded and map packs or new units so I don't see why they would be a problem.
I will check what version of the driver I have when I get home. Thanks for the reply.
I'm guessing your track 1 was an audio track? I believe that it uses all audio tracks, but ignores data tracks. Thus if burning an all audio disk, I think you need to not have the extra track, but if you do, have it be a data track.
(As a side note, the orignial disk was one of the hardest to copy. I had one disk die due to human interaction, and decided to play with burned copies from then on (I have like 4 copies). They did something odd with marking the sectors bad.)
Just a head's up: Next week Battle Tactics gets added.
w00t!
and the downloable units?
announcing this today of all days is confusing
Here is the link for all u plp who want to play TA online,,, This is all in one stuff... And small file.

What are the chances of getting TA: Kingdoms and Iron Plague on Impulse too? I played vanilla TA: Kingdoms ages ago and actually loved the story, but never had the chance to play Iron Plague? Would Atari be willing to let us have Kingdoms too?
ta kingdoms was a huge flop lol
Yeah I know. Still doesn't stop me from wanting to play it.
I wouldn't mind seeing TA:Kingdoms on Impulse either. The game probably wouldn't of been so looked down upon if they had just not called it a TA game since obviously it isn't, but I found it to be a lot of fun. Played it almost as much as the original TA.
This is fantastic. Total Annihilation was the first game I ever bought with my own money as a kid. Seeing this official revival is great to see.
It's only recent I've gotten into mods and the such, for the past couple days(and now) I've been looking for the evolva graphics mod, if I find it, I'll update it here for anyone else wandering here, otherwise when you get this, could you put it up?

Thanks a bunch
It's too bad that so many of those sites are dead now. File-universe is linked exhaustively by every still-working TA site and yet it is dead itself.
*edit* Nevermind, seemed the links to the site itself were the problem, that link has almost everything imaginable.

A question, some of the TA mods I have managed to find say they should be installed after a "clean" install(which only covers the CD install method). How would I do a clean install for Impulse?
