For 2.0 to arrive! Tic Toc Tic Toc ...::::Tapping Foot::::... Not Today maybe monday I Guess I will get a and a and see what Monday Brings
Me too! Is it supposed to start soon?
When They posted it and sent the Emails out it said in a couple of weeks -- I got the email on the 10th so it has been 13 days already
i've had 2 dreams about it already, yes, i'm pretty sad
I hope it comes out soon or I will have to go and get some more
You better get a case of And some more
they did say february
A friend of mine said he had a exchange with someone in sales @ Stardock and he was told it is going to be more like mid march can anyone confirm this?
This Post was not meant to be taken as a negative. I just wanted to know so that I don't have to keep checking Impulse If it is going to be 2 more weeks!
I have an inofficial slogan for Stardock that goes something like this:
"What you see is what you get. What we say is something you might see sometime, but most likely not at the time we tell you."
I am sure You will find some people calling You 'whiner' for that slogan. So the farce goes on. But hey, at least some people can feel 'special' as they where the ones that had the privelege to pre-order 3 weeks ago. Good trick to keep them quiet, by the way...
Been a subscriber for a long time but not sure I like this type of sales technique as I almost feel I've been 'done'. If it was a matter of pre-order with a date and the chance to access beta fine but it seems this silence is not very customer friendly or indeed for a subscriber. Whilst I can wait I would have preferred a little more communication or perhaps its about Stardock testing the water to see if version 2 will have much attention from the community.
Interesting.
There's no question about the fact that you'll receive a product, so I don't really see why you feel that...
OD+ 2 will cause a community buzz, there's nothing to test about that. Don't be silly.
i'm still waiting for the windowsFX update for vista promised 3 years ago
Hang in there.
I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
I doubt it, many full games are developed in less time than we've waited...
It'll be good when it's finally here though.
well, considering it sounds like 1 man working on it, while working on other things, not to bad
That would be true for Winstep for example, which is a one man hobbyist shareware application (who actually release update on update covering even the tiniest bugs), but that's not the case here. Objectdock is one of the best known applications of its kind, supported by a fairly large company. To me it sounds like nothing else than poor administration and lack of dedication to products. The products are great though, and just for that, well worth the money.
I wouldn't define it as that, Mick....hobbyist? Not sure how you're using the term, but Jorge is a Pro. Winstep Extreme is essentially a Suite of apps: Winstep, Workshelf and Nexus along with Modules... There is a shareware of it, and a free stand alone Nexus too.
What amazes me is that he does it all by himself. Maybe if the skinning Community gave him more support, there'd be more folks like WebGizmos producing beautiful themes....and more development of Winstep.
All that's OT, though. At Stardock there's lots going on at any given time, and if there's one person doing that (OD+2) who also has other things to do and coordinate, then it's just gonna take longer, and that's that.
Personally? I think things would go lots better and faster with more support....both for the app, and for SD also. Positive energy shouldn't be underestimated.
Also... some support for Jorge and Winstep: He deserves it. He really does. He has a heart of gold and does his best all alone.
I'm a big fan of Jorge. Winstep is pretty awesome and we've been friends for many years.
ObjectDock is much the same story. The original ObjectDock was done by Jeff on his own. ObjectDock 2 is coded by Jeff as well but largely in his spare time since his day job is to work on Impulse, Impulse::Reactor, and projects for the OEMs. So those things tend to crowd out time to work on ObjectDock.
The same goes for the other part of the equation -- the art assets. Stardock Design juggles working on projects with Dell, HP, Alienware and countless other partners along with our own internal stuff.
The biggest challenge though with ObjectDock 2 is how difficult and time consuming making some of the features work on Windows 7, 64-bit (and Vista 64) have been. To some users, they'll get ObjectDock 2 and be underwhelmed because they don't realize just how much time was spent bringing all the underlying frameworks up to date.
Now, regards to the "whining". On Object Desktop for Windows, the pre-order time on that was almost a year. On our current game project, Elemental, there are people who have been waiting since last October to get access to the beta.
If someone feels they have been mistreated or "done" then they should simply cancel their pre-order.
I do expect the beta to go out to the public in the next couple weeks.
I didn't intend to demean Jorges work, he's absolutely amazing when it comes to development and support. Winstep is a great application suite. But the fact remains, he's not a huge company, so I can easily accept that support and development halts for a bit should he fall ill, take a vacation, get a computer crash or whatever...
I don't accept those kind of hickups as easily when it comes to Stardock though, as it's quite a large company. The main thing now is that there has been countless promises on releases of an updated OD+, and it has been broken over and over and over... Because it seems as if it's mainained by a developer who constantly gets put on other projects. I just have one thing to say: DON'T STATE RELEASE TIMES IF YOU CAN'T DEDICATE PEOPLE TO COVER THE REQUIRED WORK! Don't even say "soon"... Say "it will be done, but due to the developer needing to cover the roof with cardboard, we can't really say when"... You should have learned to be careful with that a loooong time ago already... I have no trust of any kind when it comes to "what to come" statements made by Stardock. I doubt I'm the only one who feel that way... And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that's NOT a good thing.
I'm sorry but we reserve the right to not sell something until we're happy with it. If you don't like it, piss off.
The next whiney post you make Mickecko on this forum will be your last. You are under the false assumption that you have some sort of leverage over us. You don't. I don't care if you buy ObjectDock 2. Your pre-order entitles you to nothing more than being part of the beta (and then getting the final version when we deem it ready for general release). We make our best estimates of when the beta will be released.
My estimate for the ObjectDock 2 beta is currently later this month. That is not a promise. It might not be in 2010 for all you know. Deal with it or cancel your pre-order and go away.
I have no clue what you're on about. You obviously completely missed my point.
I made a more elaborate reply a while ago, but it got erased by forum issues it seems.. It's a shame, because I put alot of effort in it. A ban threat won't keep me from speaking my mind, but having to write the same thing twice does... I'll just do something fun instead.
