Civilization 5 has just been announced, the screenshots look pretty nice. It seems 2010 is going to be a really interesting year for TBS gamers

So we need to start bombarding 2K with requests now?
From the switch to hexes and the addition of bombardment it sounds awesome, hopefully they'll sell it outside NA this time
Elemental though, its already decided: I'm preordering it as soon as I get enough money, GalCiv2 is far too incredible to do otherwise. But I'm still interested in Civ5 so if they sell it to me, I'm buying. Please 2K make it happen.
Once you get to 1940ish does the interface warp into a horrible hard to use, fiddly mess? (This is a comment about old super complex hex grid turn based WWII wargames which I did noteth enjoyeth!)
It doesn't make a lot of sense either. I mean why would you want to limit your customer base by refusing to use a store front? Thena again 2K has been all over the map in terms of DRM and quality of what they publish.
6th or 7th one.... woah ... isn't time to start something new? doesn't seem like there is nothing new left to add besides going from squires to hex based...
Anyways Elemental is something new and looking forward to it!
TBSs are like London buses
Although try not to get yourself in too much competition with them, we all know everyone wants to play both at some point but given a choice at a store most would plump for Civ because it's already a well known title.
I agree, 2010 seems unlikely unless they are REALLY far along already.
What a great year for strategy fans though. Elemental Civ5, and Starcraft 2? Wow!
I hope you guys can get it on impulse. That would be great!
Yet another game for me to get excited about this year.
Bummer, hopefully you guys can wrangle it onto Impulse! Would definitely buy it there, else I'll probably get the boxed version, depending on what DRM they use. If it is not on Impulse and has some really draconian DRM, may have to pass on this, although that would be very hard to do.
Even though I'm excited about the announcement, I must admit I would have preferred a sequel to X-COM or Alpha Centauri 2 (EA owns the rights to it unfortunately, last time I heard). Still - I'm not going to complain.
What we desperately need is Jagged Alliance 3, Silent Storm 2 or an equivalent... turn-based tactical combat games are few and far between these days.
Looks cool on the screenshot, although I would also prefer a Alpha Centauri 2. Perhaps they can do both?
I think Disciples 3 is only game i might consider getting before ElemWarMag. It is a game built by graphics artist that happen to be game developers too. But they have been working on it for like six years so it might come out in 2020 for all I know. Also stardock is as mentioned above more userbased content so that gives more replayability, I'm still trying to perfect the AI value of techs for galciv2 to get them to behave properly
I liked Civilization IV but they'll need to do something special for Civ V to get me to buy it. With all the mods I've got for Civ IV already it'll have to be pretty spectacular. I'm on the fence.
Its gonna be a good year for strategy gaming. Supcom 2, Star Craft 2, Elemental, and civ 5 this year! busy busy busy!
This is kind of how I feel. I played CivIV to death, including jumping on multiplayer games with my old college roommates at least once a week for about 2 years, and I haven't played much recently, but I wouldn't say the game looks outdated or anything. I think the modding community will partially affect my decision, as in if they jump to CivV quickly and produce interesting mods I'll be much more likely to buy it than if they stick with CivIV which they have more experience with and still is flexible and interesting.

Now if we could just get a Falcon 5.0 I'd be set for the rest of my life for PC gaming......
Civ V will be great, but fall 2010? This is game development here. March 2011 would be optimistic.
If I have to pick one I'll be going with Elemental, for the simple reason that Stardock tries to support the average user, while Civ 5 will likely require me to upgrade my PC. If by some miracle Firaxis has designed Civ 5 to work on less powerful systems I'll try to get both, but Elemental will be my priority. I think that kind of attention to ordinary users should be rewarded.
I've bought and played to death every version of Civ from the Atari release, which we had to petition to get. I'm looking forward to geting it but dreading the mess of hoops I'd have to jump though in the name of DRM. They've not announced the DRM so fingers crossed it's something simple and benign
Hey, it can't be as bad as Ubisoft's DRM, can it?
Oh if gamers let Ubisoft get away with it, you can bet your last dollar that every publisher is going to want to do the same. EA is already yanking servers on PC games that are just over a year old. I am sure they'd love to do that to every game they have.
I have no intention of letting Ubisoft off the hook. I plan to not let any game that uses their system anywhere near my hard drive. I'm simply saying that chances are what Civ V uses will not be anywhere as bad as the system Ubisoft is planning to use.
I dunno about Civ V. I mean, the screenshots look cool and all, but the modding scene for Civ IV has just about got Civ IV to the point where the AI plays a passable game. I don't much fancy going back two steps in terms of challenge. The selling point in my opinion will be how soon the AI will give you a run for your money without relying on handicap or handouts to play well. If not at launch, then when?
