The second coming is upon us! The PCgaming world will never be the same again!
Music is good. Nice and relaxed. Sound effects are good (voices are really good!)
Gameplay is fast and furios and combatmicromanagement is rewarded so nothing for slowheads. Every race have a unique macromanagement mechanic that gives benefits if used (and is necessary for keeping up with a good player.)
Here's a stream: http://www.livestream.com/jobbies/video?clipId=pla_d3b54ec8-0b46-4706-925b-78a1216aab86
The graphics are better then what's shown in the stream (thank GOD for that!)
There are a some screenshots over at http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft2/blogs/1656
I'd like to see a comparison between the online population of Sins before and after the StarCraft II beta was available
Gross.
Thank God we got to page 2. I'll try not to break it this time guys. ( I will probably fail)
I fixed your post, though I'm not sure how, exactly...
Anyway, my roommate just got access. Looks amazing, and I'm seriously looking forward to the single-player campaign. I never was very good going up against anyone but the computer.
Haven't got my beta key yet neither. But watching videos on youtube is considerably less effort. sclegacy has a good channel with some commented replays. We would also really like to see some of your commented replays Mr. Frog, sir.
Yeah, I'll buy it. StarCraft Broodwar was the game that pulled me into computer gaming with the grip of a hungry giant squid. I'm an older player, reflexes maybe a tad slow, but I learned all the keystroke sequences for the build orders. Micro of units was never my strong suit. But I had some real fun online.
Yet most of my fun came with the single player campaign and map making. Mods too, yeah. In those days it was fairly hard to do. Stormcoast Fortress, Camelot, various other mod sites. It was all for offline, but Blizzard screamed like a stuck pig. Now all that is going to be built in. Without going overpowered, really, some of those mods were just hysterical fun; and the tech side of making them perhaps the most fun of all!
So yeah, sure; I'm going online. From what I've seen on videos so far, heck I can probably do that good! But even losing can be riotous fun as the amphibian has told us! But I think what I am really looking forward to most is the Single Player Campaign and then getting into the modding, making maps, and maybe new unit creation, or old unit restoration!
StarCraft 2 should hold me for a few years. But of course, what I really want to see is World of StarCraft!
They removed the Goliath and replaced it with the Viking tank-plane thing, right? The thing that plays like it was borrowed from RA3, right? Lame. I want the Goliath back with its autocannons and anti-air rockets.
I checked my GMail account a few hours ago from my work, and I got this strange mail from SC2betaGB... My first reaction was 'Hmmmm, how did that spam get through? ', then I opened the mail... Woohoo, Starcraft 2 beta invite Now I just have to wait until I get home to start the download, and probably have to wait until tomorrow evening at least before I can play...
Somehow, I'm starting to feel sick, I might have a few days sickleave coming up...
If Elemental flops, don't dare to blame Stacraft II for it. We all know it's a weapon by Blizzard to weaken the other game developers (by distracting them).
I'm trying to practice micro for SCII by going back through the campaign and trying to lose 0 units on each map.
I've watched about sixty replays now. It seems to me that the following strategies destroy everything
From what I've heard, Zerg is the most powerful because of the spawn larvae ability of the Queen.
Was complaints over at the Battle.Net BETA forums about quite a bunch of units. Helions, Siege Tanks, Stalkers, Roaches etc.....But most of all, airunits were complained against. Zerg & Protoss air to be exact.
But most of those guys are newbies so I wouldn't put too much faith in what they say. Though the veterans should tell them in a nice way how to play.
Yeah, the Terrans with their submerging supplydepots have the easiest time createing chokes.
But doesn't Zerg Mutalisks harass everything they possibly can and slow down (and against newbies, kill) Terran and Protoss enough so the Zerg gain mapcontrol and contain?
It may be the newbies, but on the Battle.Net BETA forums Protoss have been complained against since they say they're too powerful. They just Warp Gate units into enemy bases with Warp Prisms thus bypassing chokes and Thors.
Zealots got charge (researchable) so they can't be outrunned.
Yeah, I'm a TheoryCrafter
Would be fun to play you once the game's released though our timezones are a bit different. I got afternoon when you got morning.
Queen - can't be used offensively, gives early AA to the Zerg, which is nice. Able to heal hatcheries, also nice, able to spawn extra larva, which is awesome. Not really OP because she's incapable of attacking
Siege Tanks - lol, this things are so awesome for defending bases. You almost can't attack Terran in the middle game, you become the reactionary force. You can also fly factories and place them on cliffs near the enemy base. They can't see you without spotters. This is almost imba unless you have cloaked air scouts.
Terran have amazing capability to expand with flying command centers.
Stalkers are very strong if you can micro them well. Every time one runs low on health you can blink to the back lines. If you're chasing you can blink on top of them and finish them off. If you're losing you can blink away. They're probably the best units for the terran.
The new Terran air units are pretty awesome. You can send seeking missles that have splash damage at enemies. Burrowing does not dodge them either.
A large force of roaches is very, very strong, but is beatable.
Medivacs are an awesome counter to stalkers. If you (are korean) have really good micro, you can put your units in the medivac and then drop them quickly to DODGE THE ATTACKS. This isn't new however, it was in SCI.
The air units are really good if you can't counter them. If you build an army of zerglings and encounter an air army, you're totally effed. Medivacs, warp prisms, and other transport air units are awesome for harassing.
Helions are crazy fast, so they can be micro'd out of enemy attacks while firing. They can also just blow past your army and into your base to pound on your workers.
I'm surprised no one's complained about thors yet. They're crazy good for their cost. (I'm guessing most games don't last long enough for thors to get out on the field)
Right now, I'd say terran are the most powerful, but overall it's pretty balanced. Teching has become a lot more important than ever before. Low tier units cannot win (save a quick zerg rush with good micro against a bad player)
The new protoss unit that creates impenetrable force fields is SO CHEAP. You can attack enemy workers, plop up some shields between buildings, and kill them all before the force fields wear down. You can lure the enemy army into a choke point, put shields in front of them and behind them so they can't move, and then beat them down with ranged fire. You can always escape with a force field. You can block entrances to your base with force fields. You can block enemy escapes with force fields. YOU CAN DO ANYTHING WITH FORCE FIELDS!
Sorry for the long, rambling post, I just jotted down my thoughts in no real order.
Sounds like these "Force Field Thingies" are pretty cool!
To anyone with complaints about the balance, keep in mind that it's Blizzard, if the original Starcraft can be used as an example, they'll probably be doing balance changes in patches for the next decade.
You have no idea lol. If you go up against protoss in SCII, be sure to have ranged(or air) units or units with warping capabilities, otherwise you'll get stuck and ranged to death. This things DESTROY zerglings.
Guys, you NEED to watch this replay. I linked to the third part in case you don't feel like watching the whole thing.
Oh, and banshees are crazy awesome. Twelve banshees destroy a nexus in 6 seconds.
Is it as powerful as it was in Battlereport 3 or 4? It looked sooo abusive there. I felt sorry for the Zerg player.
Well, yes. Strangely enough, I've only seen them [sentries] used in about 1/4 of games with a toss player. Don't feel sorry for the Zerg. They have roaches, which are crazy imba. Blizzard has already announced that they will nerf roaches and buff the Terran. I'm really hoping that the Terran get some decent anti-air units before the game is released.
Watching newbies play makes me think that things that I thought were obvious, aren't.
Like having 3 workers on each Vespene Geyser and 2 workers per mineralclump.
But building your Nexus further away then you should....! Takes a real n00b for that!
Yeah, Banshees seem brutal against structures just like Void Rays.
....I got a feeling that one mission in both the Terran and Zerg campaign will have a some Void Rays attacking you from multiple directions early.
Void rays are awwwwful at killing probes though (the more health a unit has, the more effective void rays are against it). They're also not good in small numbers. When you have 5 or more, they just chew through everything. They can't tank too much damage though, so they're pretty balanced. They're also good at chasing. It seems to me that Protoss are a great countering/chasing race. Stalkers can blink, you can use a warp prism to move units around quickly, you can block escape routes with sentries, you can round corners and cut enemies off with colossi, and void rays keep CHAHGIN MAH LAZAH!! while chasing.
I have been playing it a LOT.
More than I should be.
The one feature that I hope people give props to Blizzard on is the auto-matching. They do it better than anyone. It takes several games of getting beaten up but then it settles down to continuously good matches.
Last I heard, you need a registered Blizzard game in order to sign up for beta access. Is that still the case? I don't actually own any Blizzard games, so I don't think I can get in the beta, but if I can, I'd like to try. It certainly looks pretty awesome
Oh yes, the auto-match making service is much better than that of any game I've ever played. Back in the day, you click find game in WCIII, and you get a competitive game in less than 20 seconds without fail. They also had the best map editor ever and the best system for dealing with the new maps/games. I've been playing offline beta vs. the computer and watching replays. It seems that the AI hasn't really been completed yet which is likely why the game won't be released for a few months. If Blizzard were smart, they could take the AI that all the hackers are writing and save themselves some effort.
I'm kind of pissed that Blizzard said that all players would have access to the beta a few months ago. They sort of implied open beta. They should have come right out and said we will allow x amount of players every x days into the closed beta.
If the same effort went into finding the cure for cancer that went into cracking SCII, we'd have cured all forms of it by now
Yes, you do need to have a valid serial registered to your account to opt-in to the beta. It's almost pointless however, you might as well go buy five lottery tickets.
Oh, the insanity! This was done with just two sentries in less that 5 seconds oh by the way.
Maybe I'll install the new Battle-net (after it's out and we see just what it is). I would not mind creating an account and 'authenticating' my game when I install it.
But if they want me to login to their server every single time I play a single-player game then they can Bite my Shiney Metal Ass.
I don't think they require you to be logged in.
In case anyone is interested, Team Liquid is streaming live SC2 (in admittedley low quality).
There are many great features available to you once you register, including:
