Decided to tell everyone about this game I came across.
Star Ruler is a mixture between the RTS and 4X genres. Our goal is to bring an expansive galaxy to life, and provide many ways to experience the world - whether your goal is to conquer, extinguish, or make peace with all life - so there will always be something new to experience.
Features:
Thanks, I will have a look although I'm more interested in Distant Worlds by Code Force at the moment and still learning to play Sins well.
I pray that Impulse snatches up this title!
Reminds me of the Space Empires series, just...better. (if done right)
@Shiro_Sol- their (Star Ruler's) ModDB page has a comment that states it will be $20-25 (assumed US$). But still, that's about as much as- SoaSE original, Entrenchment+Diplomacy Xpacks for SoaSE, and then $5 leftover for something else (like some soda+cookies/candy for consumption while playing, hehehehe).
Looks like a nice game. If they can keep that pricing they should have a hit.

(whoops! double post! )
*sneaks in* So, I'm one of the devs for Star Ruler; I do the marketing direction, some graphics assets, and direct the QA stuff. What's up, guys?
Feel free to ask me any questions you'd like. (It may take me some time to answer some and others I may not be able to precisely answer but I will answer!)
I may even be able to sneak you screenshots of the game-in-progress and concept art; but I will forewarn that we aren't in feature lock yet so some of our stuff still looks a little 'dev-y'.
Also, that feature list up at the top is an abbreviated list; I put up a full list a few weeks ago on ModDB which shows more of the game off if y'all are interested.
(For those who don't want to hunt down our ModDB page: http://www.moddb.com/games/star-ruler)
Thanks for bumping this page; I must have missed it the first time around. The game looks cool, and I'd love to beta test it once it reaches that stage... unfortunately, the guy doing the summary, who says to PM him about a BT position, forgot to put down his name anywhere, so I have no clue who to contact! And I have an impressive BT resume, too, starting with Sins of a Solar Empire and moving in towards Armada 2526!
A STAR RULER DEV!!!
QUICK!! KNOCK HIM OUT AND RESTRAIN HIM!!! We must haz ze Star Ruler informationz!
But if we do that, we may never see the game itself! I must defend the dev!
But there are MORE than 1 Star Ruler devs!!
Fine. I'll make you a deal- I question him over a period of 24-36 hours, and then you can have 'im back.
Be sure to use hot pointy objects when you tor... I mean question him. Stay away from anything that would damage his digits such as thumbscrews, as that would impair his ability to program the game since he would have trouble using a keyboard.
I was sondering if the game is turn based .. and if it is are the battles real time? I would also like to know if I can actually control ships in battle. Its the only thing that I didn't like in galciv 2 was that I couldnt control anything.
We released a gameplay teaser just yesterday, the video is a little basic and rough around the edges. Our recording software (PlayClaw) has been having issues with our mouse cursor, so I am finding it tough to actually display parts of the game as well as displaying it in high-definition.
Nevertheless, we are working on a solution with them and should be producing Gameplay Teaser 2 in a short period of time; the next teaser will be in high-def as well.

Excellent.
CURSED RECORDING SOFTWARE!!! WE MUST HAVE TEASER 2!!!
BTW, will you be releasing an SDK, allowing other indie groups or individual indie devs to make games based on the same system as Star Ruler?
We've already sent off a proof-of-concept to PlayClaw's tech support (who have been on-the-spot so far in providing us support) and we hope to have a solution there soon.
We haven't really thought much about releasing an SDK: It is a possibility. Make sure you and other prospective modders bug us about it if it's something you guys wind up needing to get the kind of game you'd like to play.
Granted, there's a lot of things you can already do with the game but if an SDK is needed we will see what we can do about providing one to the modding community.
*begins bugging Firgof fervently so that the SDK will be released*
I sincerely hope you do release an SDK of this game. What's the approximate release date BTW?
I put a lot of faith in AngelScript and our notepad-friendly text-files being able to provide to the community much of what it needs in the area of modding alongside our provided tools (namely the Particle Editor and the Model Configurator as well as the Script Test switch and some other developer-oriented tools). We think that someone would be able to, in ten minutes of study, open the game, open up our game data folder, and create a new weapons system (from gameplay effects to the particle system and images it uses) in under ten minutes. (Of course making a weapon system isn't the maximum extent of what you can mod. )
Unfortunately the best I can give out at the moment is 'Summer'. We're hoping to hit mid-June to late-July but that's still not in stone just yet!
I'm sure that just the provided tools will be excellent for modding; however incorporating leader-unit with some RPG elements might require the usage of an SDK.
Also, is the physics system realistic or more arcade-esque?
Mid-June to late-July is is good; that means this year .
EDIT: Have you thought about talking to Stardock to get Star Ruler more widely distributed?
We think that might be possible through just AngelScript, actually.
Realistic when it isn't arcadey; collisions are pretty uneventful (sorry D:)
Well, um, we have thought about it. We're not sure how they would take the idea though lol.
Really? Cool.
Well, what I was looking for was if the game uses a more Newtonian based physics scheme. Collisions uneventful can probably be modded BTW.
I'm sure Stardock would love to have Star Ruler on Impulse. Stardock seems to really love to support indie game developers.
