Steam is selling Mount and Blade for 5 bucks. Can Impulse match that?!
Sounds interesting - the reviews mostly have it as mediocre-average (largely on it's graphics/presentation), but you read all the user reviews and they rate it as very good. Since I've grown increasingly distrustful of 'official' reviews I decided to go ahead and get it (although I probably won't start playing it for a few weeks - still playing around with dragon age origins).
Did you pay 5 bucks for it? If I had steam I would've bought it. like 5 bucks, who cares?! I only have impulse though
Yeah got it through steam for $5 - at that price I can afford to take a chance over whether it's a great game or an average one, and I'm not so bothered about it being tied only to steam so much either when it's so cheap.
I paid $7.50 for it last year (75% off sale on steam). Best bang for my buck in memory. It may not be everyone's cup o tea, but I personally found the combat to be highly enjoyable, especially when the somewhat repetetive music is replaced with a podcast or pandora. It has probably the only skill-based medieval combat system which actually works well. I've managed to get several hundred hours of gameplay out of it.
The graphics aren't great, although they are improving a bit in the announced exansion (Warlords or something like that). Quests are generally pretty generic, as are most of the non-combat parts of the game. But, as I said before, those parts don't matter, as the combat is the fun part, and the part you will probably be spending numerous enjoyable hours in.
Oh, and Tkins, you can have both on your system; Impulse and Steam won't eat each other when you turn your back or anything.
Steam has had some amazing deals recently, I just picked up E:TW for $10. And, when the DLC included Ghurkas and Amazons... I couldn't help myself.
I'm a little suspicious though. Mount and Blade is still $30 on the website. How did they get the price so low? Is Steam losing $25 for every copy of Mount and Blade they sell? What sort of deal did they cut with Taleworlds?
I have a feeling Steam is engaging in some very aggressive Price Warfare against Impulse and other content providers.
Impulse must do the same thing. Impulse is doing so many games deal on weekends but price cuts are so low at the other hand Steam is doing only one deal and that deal is being perfect (perfect=price).
These deals drive crazy oppertunity fire... I mean sales. I've spent £40 on games I woulnd't have spent before, just because the sales are drawing me in. Also they are making people check the platoforms every week and every weekend.
Thirdly, they get people talking about the game again which lasts after the tempoary sale is over.
Ultimately short term sales are AWESOME for this kind of platform, I love it.
You just need the key, after you can uninstall Steam (i don't think you can get your key through the Steam web site).
For 5 bucks it will be the best deal of your life.
The best part of that game is the mods and huge community.
Graphics are ok but the gameplay is adictive. I did the beta and plan on following that game for a long time. For a while there was a new mod every week.
My personal fav mod was the roman legion mod and the older LOTR mod.
5$ is crazy I gladly paid more and got my monies worth.
DS
M&B is good, but I'm getting more and more cold to Warband...I do the multiplayer Beta, and if you're used to M&B, Warband's combat is very very VERY diffrent...not to mention we're facing a 2-Handed weapon fest instead of the "traditionnal" sword and shield combo...I suppose that's what happen when everyone and thier mother pitch in with their own idea on how that game should go
Yeah but going defnesive only works if your a) very good or b ) facing stupid AI.
Wild hammer smashing is always going to win in multiplayer as people look for the easiest best way to win. The tards.
i bought it on last year on impulse. loads of fun. tons of mods if youre into that sort of thing. the fun factor definately out paces the graphics. they have been working on a multiplayer thats been in beta. maybe its closer to release.
You can buy off Steam, get the CD-Key, and then download it directly from the developer, entering in the CD-Key to activate manually. That will get you around Steam DRM.
Mount and Blade is amazing, especially once you use your cd key to get it independent of steam. I think I've gotten the more hours of fun/dollar out of that game than any other. 5 dollars is a steal, I bought it for 20.
It pays to use both steam and impulse. Whoever puts the game I want at a good price first gets my business. You probably miss out on a lot of good deals if you will only buy on impulse.
Psst...

Purchased.
Why does it always seem like Impulse has a sale on a game the week or so after Steam does?
Nice! Just curious - SD, did you guys make the price cut to match steam?
i impulse
Kinda late but who cares, I don't so I still bought a copy. Even though I *also* bought it on Steam during its sale but still, it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played and they deserve the money, plus I get a spare CD-Key just in case.
Too bad i bought it off steam.
Anyway, waiting for mb: warband now...
Same, I would have loved to get this on Impulse instead. Fun game.
I picked it up. Will probably check out the mods as I cannot say that I love the vanilla game that much. The battles are fun but I am just not drawn in to the sandbox.
