Was playing a little dosbox "Masters of Magic" (Got my ass kicked by some Hellhounds) so decided to see what new games where coming out ... checked the normal game sites.. same titles everywhere.
Finaly gave up and googled what I wanted in a game... Google said "Try Elemental you dumb F#$K"
So I came here .. and looked .. and it was awesome. Why have I not heard of this before? am I so out of touch? Is stardock holding out on me?
Google-Fu for the win, pre-ordered and waiting for a beta...
now, quit picking apart the grammer of my post and get back to work..

You kidding me? There's been tons of press for a game this eairly. They had at least one priview, and often more than one prieview, on all the major gaming sites. It was listed as one of the top 10 most anticipated games of 2010, etc, etc. There's been a lot of press for a game in beta, and you can bet there'll be even more when it comes close to release.
Um, no offense, but getting an article in all the big gaming review websites is kinda like having the kid on the corner yelling your praises. No one takes the big game sites seirously anymore, they just trade high scores for cash and everyone knows it. The only time anything on those sites gets noticed is when they pay enough to get the whole damn site reskinned as an ad for the game.
And the big game review sites tend to cater more towards the twitch and shoot or the gaint explosions attack-move rts crowd, since this is a 4x TBS its unlikley to draw much attention on those sorts of sites.
The game isn't released for at least (and I mean at least) six months, so it's not surprising they aren't doing much interviews etc. Plenty of info here though!
If you want to try the beta, it will be opening up again for beta 2 around the end of the month maybe (they don't keep to rigid schedules ATM). It is a proper beta though, with rubbish graphics and lots of crashes currently.
We aren't going to do any real pushing until beta 3 when the graphics engine is in and we're closer to shipping.
huh, so all we have to do is turn it on? you think bikinis would work or should we try dancing nude to get it on?

Also keep in mind that complex strategy games are a very niche market compared to blockbuster FPSes like MW2.
I think word of mouth will be the primary driver for this game.
Tragically, this is true. I remember awhile back when a game reviewer got fired for panning a crappy game that the magazine/site had accepted an add from. So has gone the way of most journalism.
Lol, you could of just said the "Gamespot review thing". It has practically become a cultural icon among gamers. I am sure gamespot loves being know as "That review site that fires reviewers who give bad scores". But yes, i must agree, this game will most likley draw a majority of its crowd from word of mouth or mentions on smaller sites that focus on a more targeted crowd.
Yes, this was known as the Gerstmann affair. Ever since, I've dropped gamespot and I've never looked back.
I followed Jeff Gerstmann to his new site, Giant Bomb. Way better site, dedicated to journalistic integrity in gaming, co-founded by Gerstmann himself.
Stardock has an interesting marketing program. Not much hype up front. And then winning game of the year tends to get people interested in your product. It's ninja marketing! And their Kung Fu is strong!
I for one can't wait to see the Kung Fu in action, as I feel there is a void in the gaming market.
