Recently Illwinter and Shrapnel Games released their old fantasy TBS game Conquest of Elysium II for free. It is a definit influence on the Dominions series, and shares some common ground with MoM. I'd suggest reading the included manual. Each race have their own gameplay mechanics, and I was rather lost until I did.

Definitly a niche-market publisher, but I've never regretted a purchase with them. (I bought Space Empires V through Steam, so technically I blame Steam for that one!)
