Hi,
I would advise all of you to have a look at this exciting new space 4x rts game. It is called Distant Words and will be released soon. The concept is very cool and it seems very easy to play. Check out the videos!

Distant Worlds - Overview
Distant Worlds is a vast, real-time, 4X space strategy game. Explore the galaxy and expand your mighty empire across the stars...
Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game.
Vast galaxies are made to order: up to 1400 star systems, with up to 50,000 planets, moons and asteroids. Galaxies are so deep, fun and immersive that you won’t want to finish the game... Build, expand and improve your empire endlessly.
Seamlessly zoom your view from a single ship or planet right out to the entire galaxy – or any level in between. Watch thousands of star ships criss-crossing the galaxy: transporting cargo, mining resources, exploring uncharted regions, colonizing new planets, taming lawless areas.
The galaxy is packed with life and activity. Encounter other empires, independent alien colonies, traders, pirates and space monsters. Explore star systems, asteroid fields, gas clouds, supernovae, galactic storms and black holes. Discover evidence of civilizations long since past, uncovering secrets about the galaxy's troubled history...
Your citizens expand your empire’s economy by themselves: colonies grow in size and culture, freighters transport cargo, mining ships and mining stations exploit resources – without any direction from you.
Your job as the head of government for your empire is to explore, colonize and protect. Providing security and stability allows trade and development to flourish at your colonies. But neglecting your defences will see your empire shrink as it is attacked by marauding pirates and other greedy empires.
Use a full array of tools to help your empire achieve dominance: diplomacy, espionage and the threat and use of military force.
Automate as much or as little of the game as you like, leaving you time to focus on the game aspects that interest you most.
Play the game your way: enjoy a quick, intense game in a crowded galaxy or take your time in an epic game spread across a vast galaxy
Easiest way to avoid having to download again...back up your installer. Matrix encourages buyers to do so.
Well, considering that the Sins devs still havent fixed the minidumps (especially when using mods such as Distant Stars, and i will NOT play the game without mods), i'll def give Distant Worlds a try.
Lower end graphic also means that the game can be played on lower end machines which is great for me.
It looks flipping epic. I hope it's Win7 compatible. I also hope I can turn "space monsters" off.
I have the gold version, but want to start with the original to get to learn the new game concepts before I introduce more elements with the expansions. Any suggestions for interesting mods? What about the galciv2 type of mod in one of the expansions?
Fall from Heaven II
FfH2 is super sweet. It is better than the civ4 itself by far.
I believe you can reduce how often they appear, but not turn them off entirely, the way you can pirates. They protect nice planets after all, like in MOO 2.
Video #4 is now available, all about colony ships and mining outposts. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=782 for the forums where the developer hangs out and answers questions, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWvxkud56K4 for the newest video.
I don't mind the graphics, too many pretty baubles would fry many graphics cards.
It's actually a pausable RTS, like a Paradox game, only set in space. However, unlike most of the games I have been following it might actually be out this quarter, instead of Q3 2010 like every other game I want (Vicky 2, Commander: Conquest of the Americas, Elemental: War of Magic.)
Edit: Some of my favorite goodies - it has a civ like corruption model, larger empires (in terms of population) lose more money to corruption, and you can gain some of the advantages of the other races if you have their citizens living in your empire. Also has a Civ like resource model, with 40 resources - 20 strategic and 20 luxury.
real-time + 4x = annoying to play or overly simplistic garbage.
When I play a 4x game I at least want it to be as indepth as like Civ 4 or maybe Space Empires 5.
Real-Time "4x" type games like what Paradox make are fairly simple compared to most 4x games except for Victoria. Victoria is the only real-time game with the depth that I like in a 4x game that i've seen work, though the problem with that is that combat and building/managing city production like in a Civ 4 are not primary features of that game. Its mostly an economic type game.
"MMOG scale, 4X depth, RTS simplicity"
To me all 3 of those combined = terribad. 4x depth and rts simplicity does not combine. Its either one or the other. Also MMOG scale + RTS also equals a bad idea. Reminds me of when you play spore and you have a large "empire" in that bad game and you have to take care of too many things at once, if it were turn based I could do that all in one turn. In real time its frantic annoyance, or in probably how this game handles it the game goes to Auto-Pilot mode and removes the point of playing the game.
You've never played Imperium Galactica 2 or Pax Imperia, have you? They're both (admittedly rare) examples of a real-time 4x game that actually works pretty well.
