Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.
At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.
SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)
It's my thread so a few of my stuff...
My next attempt for a model will be the Elle Ciel from Galaxy Angel par request by someone on the X3TC forum, The guy himself is having trouble finding a mesh as well as trying to extract the model from a game he has. Aside from that... being able to reproduce these ships ain't that hard really, I use the a grid layout as the starting polygon and work from there by enlarging it piece by piece as I go from the front tip of the ship down to the rear part of the ship. From there I start doing inset or bevel in the model to begin the work up to make it shape correctly to what the reference pic is. Basically it's a connect the dot thing that does the outline in the grid and the rest of the grid, the excess that is outside the shaped part is cut off from there.
Honestly I like doing my own custom models but recently I've gotten into the reproduction of ships as you've seen with the Atlantis and the Reverence models

These are Flagships. I am thinking of making a mod that would add one (and only one) Flagship to the game. These are the ship models....
The Advent get the Redemption.
Tech get a new and improved Kol 2.0
And Vassari get the Hellion

There needs to be Flagships in this game.... and these would work nicely I think.
lol by flagship you mean a one limit per flagship cause it would be such an epic unit and have awesome buffs to fleet and awesome abilities to boot sort of thing?

Really like the Vasari 1, looks awesome. I like the flagship idea. 1 thing though about their size, I think you may want to increase the size of the shipyards to fit them. Or are you intending to make a new shipyard that only makes flagships?
@SivCorp I was thinking about doing a min-mod with something very similar to what you are saying. Basically, I want to start with a Random capital flagship at the start of the game. You only get one flagship, if you lose it thats tough... The flagship class ships would be the current capital ships about 25% bigger with a little better starting stats and about double the level up stats (probably will have to exclude shield mitigation). I wasn't going to muck with the abiltiies though...
I'll try and prototype something for you earlier if you are interested.

I actually took into account the shape of the shipyards. These ships will not be much bigger than their bretheren (20-30%). Their shape actually will fit in the shipyards!
The Advent capital yard is a circle, and the Flagship is tall but not too long, so it will fit.
The Tec capital yard is open to the Y axis, so that Flagship is long, and will fit.
The Vas capital yard is open on the top, so it doesn't hinder the Flagship size at all.
I may have to build these prototypes.... I'm liking the ideas that are forming in me head

Anyway here is 1 that I did for a friend. To do it I had to symmetrize part of each side. I was trying to not use the polygon the Kol name was on but 1 side is not a mirror of the other so I had to. Does anyone know how to fix this?
don't know why but that ship makes me think of the ship from Aliens

I dont think I understand the problem.... Why did you HAVE to mirror the models? You should be able to edit it any way you want. What program are you using?
gah I never mirror models, When I do the model I usually do both sides at once to get twice as much done, Insetting and molding the polygons and what not
Well basically the hanger from 1 side is symmetrized to the other, then the bit that hangs out the other side with the auto cannons on it is symmetrized to the original hangar side. While the main body of the Kol looks symmetrical, its not. If I just symmetrized those two bits it leaves gaps all over the place. So I split the main body in half and symmetrized that and everything fits together. Only problem being reversed textures. The more I think about it the more I think you cant fix that, but maybe someone does know a way. Its no big issue really, but if there is a way, it would be a good thing to know.
I use SoftImage 2011 Educational version.

This 1 has texture files half the size of the others, so the textures still need a bit of work with the windows and such.
Very slick looking ship.
The mirrored textures have to do with the UV coordinates. Those coordinates get mirrored as well and are not unique. Sins does not like this. To truly get a clean model, it has to be made without mirroring. Or you could try remaping the normals, but that is more work than simply building the model...
akkan117, did you might I guess use paintshop for those pics? if so might I suggest you get a different picture program. If your saying something like "I don't got money to get a better program." then you don't need to. You can download Gimp, it's a photoshop like program and it's free. I believe it's also a good program for textures and what not from what one person told me who is well know around here

Man, I am just in awe of that stuff, it really is brilliant. Really looking forward to your mods release. I would apply to be beta tester, though to be fair I wouldn't make a very good 1 as spend too much time doing my own modding. In any case I'm sure you'll get heaps of good gamers.

oh... lol that ship has been done but the poly count on it is VERY high and probably wouldn't be a good idea to use... imo if your wondering where I am getting this from... X3TC. I've seen several of the Terran BC models floating around there... mostly on the German part of the forum though
