Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.
At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.
We are looking forward to seeing what you have created!

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.
SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)
It's my thread so a few of my stuff...
@ Hades: No wonder. Loved Freespace. Great job there.
@ Iskatumesk: You're so awesome.
@Axel: Not a bad hull. Good solid design with the beginnings of something grand if you can keep fleshing it out. Transport perhaps?
I'd like to update the original post with some favorite 3d models posted in this thread.
Let me know your favorites and I'll post some thumbnails to them also.
Feel free to reply here with the reply #, author and link and I'll get it added.
I'd like to bring my flagship some attention
And here is the model picture...
Hmm, looks familiar... I think I was ready to shoot one of those down in the Finley system...
(FYI: Sivcorps' beast is the Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)
Some updates and a new structure.
Iskatu, you still impress. I imagined the spherical structure being big, but that platform outdoes it nicely. How big? What's the purpose?
The central structure is basically a part of a driver used to contain something called the Manifold. It collects and stores zero-point energy that emits from the device when it's inactive, controls the driver mechanism, and is equipped with sensors and such to study it. But, mostly, a device for containment.
As for size, it'd be around the size of a football stadium let'say. It's contained in a much larger structure inside a ship.
iska are you worrking on a mod?
These are not for a sins project, I'm just posting them for the sake of it.
oooh i see what r u making them for?
I'm making a Starcraft 2 campaign. Veeery slowly.
oooh nice! it dose not have one? never played the 2nd version.. u should make some moddels for soase!
I already finished my sins project a while back. In fact, Zombie linked it in the OP of this thread it seems. Horray!
Starcraft 2 has a vanilla campaign, but what I'm building is very different. It is catered to a private audience, and will feature a far greater difficulty, a less casualized story, and everything else you'd expect from a project of mine like full voice acting and such.
Horsing a..round with some steam punk images for a custom UI.
v2 of that frigate that I posted before. It's the final version.
rear perspective:
The frigates wreckage (only the front part of it, there will be different pieces of wreckage)
Nice work--welcome back
Fred: Nice job, especially given that the goal is a low poly design.
Zombie: Not a big Steampunk guy myself, but the lower half is nice and smooth.
The human's vertically oriented ship that does'nt have a class yet...it's not done, only a few parts have even been touched. 347 polys, this is my most detailed and successful texture yet.
The engine texture was borrowed from a guy who had homeworld 2 textures...I wish I could get my hands on the other homeworld textures, would be awwwwesome.
deff thinking homeworld now
Inspiration...Draakjacht convinced me to look at all of the homeworld models...the level of detail was soooo much more then sins, lol.Nonetheless though, the only parts of the texture that I pulled a chop job on were the engines and the big brown area by the bridge. Even then, I changed them from what they were...nothing else was used from Homeworld.
Not originally saying anything was taken directly from Homeworld, but I was thinking more along the lines of influence. For example, take the vertical model and flip it on its side, comparing the geometry to that of the Vaygr Battlecruiser. I'm sure you can see some parallels in the overall shape, though the details, function, etc. are different. And the vertical flight is far from original with Homeworld (see Boba Fett's ship in Star Wars), but the Mothership from the first game probably echoes in the minds of modern gamers when they see something that also flies vertically.
All that not withstanding, you've created a model that achieves your two largest goals. The first is to make it low poly while still looking good. The second is to practice your texturing, especially where it can artificially enhance the low poly design to fool the eye. Well done.
Huh...never noticed the Vaygr Battlecruiser... darn, lol, I can see what you mean though, though it was not intentional. I was actually thinking while I was modeling it that it would look better horizontally....but then I watched a vid on youtube and noticed that it looked almost exactly like the Vaygr ship. The vertical shape was actually brought on by a game (in development) called Novus Aeterno.I actually hate the look of the Pride of Hiigara...it doesn't fit in with the Hiigaran style at all.Anyways, thanks. I am probably going to have to retexture and possibly touch up the other models a little bit to match theis new texture style...and the new texture puts my other ones to shame.
Ignore the Pride of Hiigara and the vessels alongside it. The Pride was derived from the original Mothership, which did at the time fit the overall forces much better. The second game took a very different approach to Hiigaran design, some of which I am not at all impressed with.
You can check out them all (including the mid game, Cataclysm) here.
Wow, the Progenitor ships look BAD.ASS.Anyways, I like the new Hiigaran the most. Especially the destroyer and battlecruiser...I see what you mean now about the vaygr battlecruiser, that is one mean looking ship...
Something very short and simple today. A super low-poly, low-detail worker unit. Equivalent of the construction drones in sins or trade ships.
The tiny thing beside it is a splitter missile.
The Necropolis Micro-Fabricator is a drone host around the size of a school bus. It is equipped with all of the necessary tools to construct any manner of structures. It is powered by a Zero-Point battery at Tier 1 and a "Quantum-Core" Singularity driver at Tier 3. Although largely unarmored, it is more durable than other racial workers and can deliver a shockingly painful pinch if engaged in close range.
