Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.
At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.
We are looking forward to seeing what you have created!

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.
SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)
It's my thread so a few of my stuff...
here is some ive tried to create but failed at not good enough yet
not the second one though thought it looked coolv:)
Is this a playable game and if so, how is it?
it is playable but it does not have any 3d graphics or the ability to look at the ship they where just concepts and it is ok i plaqyed it for a while its sa browser game as well
Sigh.....A tease....
Browser based MMORTS game, I grew bored of it after a while, I got a friend of mine who still plays it.
i know i found a couple of models for download on sketchup artist going to dowload them and see what they look likee might put them up for dowload
The Bloodstone Champion is now in alpha stages.
21k quads
I'm shocked I've been able to keep it so low poly. The body still needs a lot of work.
so does anybody know hor to make something that looks really vasari i need to make two capital ships but cant think of anything
The Vasari aren't that hard to do. I dunno, you want to give me an idea of what you're looking for class-wise and I can throw together a quick sketch or two? Might give you a good jumping off point.
Ahhh, you beat me. But in my searches I found these, hope they help...
here's the link to browse for more
those are pretty good. The last especially.
Agreed, the last one is very Vasari like.
Glad y'all like them, may not be able to mod graphics but I do have an eye to what I think is good...Bison...
Those turrets are seriuosly cool, but I see why your model is pushing 21k quads...
Maybe a bit guady, but I'm thinking about this as a capital ship factory for my plague race, lol
to bad their is no boarding
going to try to make the last one but bigger cuz it has to be a capital ship
Well, I've reached the fabled wall of progression with the Bloodstone Champion for now. I'm at my limit in abilities when it comes to fixing and detailing certain regions of it. So, now it goes to the backburner along with all the other models like it and I consider what to do next.
I optimized several small Undead ships and got them in-game and working. They are simple models from around 2008. I didn't remodel them as, quite frankly, I forgot how I made them.
Here's renders of two of them from the old days.
They rarely exceed 1600 tris, which is good, because these teeny tiny 1km long Undead ships are practically free for the Undead to make. Hydras won't even cost fleet supply. Since upkeep is going bye-bye in the mod, except to see a lot of these cannon fodder. The Undead depend on these spammable ships to distract and close distances with long-ranged races. They also hurt. A lot.
More concerning is the Undead Alrashann battlecruiser. This ship is what would be around the same scale of the Kraken or Leviathan, but for the Undead it's an entry-level battlecruiser (Cruiser factory, second-gen tech)
I can't remember how this model came to be. It's probably a part of the 2008 string in the late quarter before I switched to max. The very original model, from 2002 or so, was basically a pair of Executors taped onto each other with horns. I attempted to capture that kind of a look but with the newer Undead style. It's a total, ugly failure.
Some parts of the model I like, such as the lower half, which I might cut off and try to retrieve for the next version.
The big feature of the Alrashann are its six Deimos vortex accelerators, which I slapped together with a trio of cones in the old model. They're going to have to look the part in the new one.
/e Okay, the Hydra is dated early 2007... these are older than I thought.
The fruits of a sleepless night of labor.
ofc their weapons/sounds/ect are all working as well. But that story... is for another day.
ah such old wonderful models I recognize
I used Symmetry on the Alrashann. Give or take a bit of selection and tomfoolery and I ended up with THIS
The Wormwood battlecruiser.
Question: how did you get the meshes to glow in game? I have tried several methods and yours seems the most consistent.
Cool stuff BTW.
indeed. Very cool effect.
A very cool effect indeed
Although I don't think that effect looks right on these ships. The ships themselves seem to lack a little bit of definition in there shape....
I do like the shape of that wormwood battle cruiser. It has a little more structure to it rather than just spikes everywhere. I would scale down the size of the spikes on many of the ships and just have definitive spikes with little details to accent them.
Just my graphical critique
I massively jacked up bloom intensity and the texture is a dark gray instead of total black. I was able to achieve a far more effective appearance in Supreme Commander, but typically to-canon Undead appearances are outside of what games can achieve. Unless you can make a custom shader to do what I want... but it isn't likely I'll ever know.
*shrug*
If I could model anything to even resemble what it looks like in my head they would be 69x more awesome. But I can't.
Isn't that always the challenge?
If only I had the time to model things. I've got a university education in this stuff, Just no time to do it.
