EDIT
A good point brought up by Philly0381, Would it be legal for Stradock to use the same method that Mac OSX uses to generate its dock. Example using transparent area's on the .bg to generate reflections of icons, and using 4 scurves or bg.png's to make the dock. I think this is a good topic to focus on and discus because ObjectDock is a commercial program.
NOTE: I WILL NOT RESPOND TO OFF TOPIC COMMENTS IF YOU WANT TO TAK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT RELATE TO THIS, SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE.
************************************************************************************************************
ObjectDock is by far the best dock program out there for Windows why? it has the best scroll over effects out of all of them (how well the image resizing during scroll over) and a nice interface.
However there are some things I would like the programs design team to think about and I bet a lot of people would like this idea too.
ObjectDock 2.0 should use the same dock generating system as a Mac OSX dock, using the same resources that are used by Mac to generate a dock based on size. Mac uses scurves that are picked based on the size of the dock the user has made (so a small fixed sized image is not being expaned belond its resolution) and uses transparency to tell where reflections should be placed. I think that ObjectDock 2.0 should use a similar system so that all the cool themes released for Mac docks on deviant art can be used without having to port them and re releasing them. Plus would have the added benefit of reflections being generated without having to Photoshop each icon, you could also include options for reflections like blur, water ripple, if this was done there would be absolutely no comparison of which company makes the better dock.
Another issue I would like to have fixed is indicators need to be layer behind icons, this allows better themes and different styles to happen, like a dock pictured here in one of Hotiron’s SS http://hotiron.deviantart.com/art/desolate-149923828
I hope that these changes can come into play I am sure a lot of people that use ObjectDock would love the ability to use all the themes released for Mac OSX docks found on deviant art, or here on iconpaper.org http://www.iconpaper.org/category/mac/docks/ So developers please take a look at this I know that this would be a big change to the program but a lot of people would love this including myself.
Because the fact is there are more better looking themes for Mac docks because creative people tend to use Mac because of the creative and highly customizable environment. I would like to see ObjectDock 2.0 take advantage of the free to use creative themes that are available through deviant art and other sites and stardock crate future ObjectDock themes in this manner. I can say there are more creative themes for Mac OSX dock cause take a look at themes http://gor0n.deviantart.com/art/Bloody-Docks-139946719 and here is an example of using the transparent areas for reflections http://kano89.deviantart.com/art/Real-Leopard-X-Dock-92442798 keep in mind if what I said here was done that these themes would be ready to use as is with adding a default .config file.
A quick review of what I would like to see in ObjectDock 2.0
1. Support for reflections generated by using Alpha transparence as a marker to where they should appear. 2. Add an option for even higher system recourses usage for smother transitions during scroll over. 3. Add options for various reflections like water, blurred, shadow. 4. Docks generated using a similar method to Mac OSX so that themes released on Deviantart can be used without conversion and loss of original form. 5. The ability to have a preset icon height so that the icons do not ride so low on the dock and each individual icon canvas size does not need to be lengthen vertically to make it ride higher on the dock.
Plus this would be a upgrade well worth buying. Because I have seen people say what more could Stardock add to ObjectDock more options but would that be worth the cost of an upgrade.
Here is an example of a port of mine called Fin dock it’s a personal port and NFR. And yes some of the icons are completely meaningless to the related programs but I like the work that was put into them.
from what I have been reading it's your comments that are making use go off topic
I followed your links and I have to say the OD skin here at Wincustomize are better I did find two I liked
and the Wallpaper from your link well to me they were to kidish for the most part
I did find some that were good and one I liked Hunted and could not download it No download button
OD is too Free
granted I do like some of your ideals for OD 2.0
Hope so.
Guess this reply is classified as crap.
HELLSMAN, I'm done with this except for this last thing. I'm sure the correct people will see what you are asking for and if it's possible to do it using windows it will be looked at. From what I have been a part of, Stardock always tries to produce the best programs for the Windows systems thats possible. Please remember Windows and a Mac have different environments and Stardock works with Windows.
I am no longer paying attention to off topic comments they will be ignored. If you wish to talk to me or tell me something off topic send me a private message i am not discussing Windows vs Mac.
@DaveBax
This is an on topic question a dock is a dock its function is the same on either OS its appearance however what sets it apart from others, there is no reason why ObjectDock should be so simple it how it renders the dock background and lacks support for reflections.
Yes there is. OD 1.9 came out almost 3 years ago. Many of the functionalities you wish to see came out with Mac OS-X Leopard, a little over 2 years ago.
To enhance OD to that point would mean to release another version; hence 2.0 which WILL have reflections.
That would be a problem with the code of the particular dock you're using; and that code is determined by the skinner who made it.
I see your confusion about what i said, I want a option much like the option for placement of the dock like placement of icons they would be a default setting and then a slider to manually adjust where the icons are, and Jesus Christ lol 3 years old I did not know that dam its time they do something holy crap I hope they read this.
oops
Off topic or not, if you copy and paste from a word processor like MS Word it screws up the thread for Internet Explorer users. Reply 33 will be the last one they see and the comment box will no longer be availible.
Here's some off topic crap for you Bratt. Learn to spell and use proper punctuation and get some manners. You are shown as a visitor since 1/18/2010. Is this how you behave when visiting someones home? Also this is a family friendly site so profanity is neither wanted or appreciated. That is all. Have a nice day.
/end crap
And I write the config for the dock used above in my description port unless I am mistaken I have never seen a config change the placement on icons if so what is the code that ObjectDock will need to make that happen. And to tell you the truth now that I see that this is 3 years old config files need to disappear in ObjectDock 2.0 so old and should be handle dynamically through pre defined settings by the program. Like loading the resources on the dock in and then editing it through the program and see the changes in real time not through text.
From a PM from our new friend.
"Wizard1956 how much of a no life do you have to be to think a forum is a home, are you serious lol I here to discuss about ObjectDock not your fucking feelings lol"
As subscribers to WinCustomize many of us here consider it our "home". Sure,it isn't your Mommies basement but it is home none the less. Btw, vulgar PM's to me will NOT be tolerated so please do not contact me again in that manner.
Hellsman, If I were a moderator, you'd be banned from posting here. Your disposition and vulgar harassment of members here is uncalled for, THIS IS OUR TURF, our home, as Wiz said, and you are a guest. Don't wear out your welcome....oops, too late, you have already.
I reiterate, If I were a moderator, your posting priviledges here would be terminated. PMing a member in the above fashion would not be tolerated. Your rude attitude about this is the wrong way to get help from us no lifers here at WC.
Please PM me a screenshot of that PM.
hay your right you did get STARDOCK's attention.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Nice one Wiz.
*doc's nose is twitching: jojo25-->inc0gnito-->H3LLMAN ... Just a thought.
Oh yeah!
*doc hears the "CLICK!" of the ban button in the background.
very cool
i hope OD 2.0 could have a very important feature as DELL DOCK has, it is the "category" feature
(screen shot : http://chinese.direct2dell.com/photos/blog/images/8535/original.aspx )
if click the icon in the dock (say with the name: Picture), it then will pop up 2 app icons categoried in Picture
I think it is a great convenient to lauch apps...
and about the TABS feature, i like that very much, it could arrange all the app icons in gruop, but i think it's for groupping all the icons (at least for me..)
and the category feature is for convienent purpose, this is the most wanted feature for me, and i think makes OD more and more perfect...
and the TABS feature, i would suggest it has a "hide" feature, i mean you mouse over the edge of the screen , it appears, most situations it is hide, then the screen could look more clear... clear and easy to manage all the apps...
thanks for your attention
OD is the best dock application!
Great Work!!
