For those of you who are interested the Star Trek Online Open Beta starts tomorrow. I've already done my pre=order and I have my open beta key. Even though it is "Open Beta" everyone will Not be getting a key. All pre-orders get a key first, then whatever's left will be given out on a "first come first served" basis. I know, that doesn't sound like a "Open Beta" to me either if they're limiting the keys available to non pre-orders. Still, it's worth a try if your wanting to play it if you're trying to decide on whether or not you want to buy it.

I went with Amazon US so I could get the Borg Bridge Officer. I hear Amazon UK is out of Beta Keys and if you didn't pre-order from them by Jan 7th you were not guaranteed a key. Amazon US had no such restriction that I saw. I was worried however that I might not get a Open Beta key so I called their customer support. The guy on the phone told me I wouldn't get the key until the 12th but I got it in my e-mail at about 5 AM this morning. This shows me that the Amazon employees don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, but I got my key so I'm happy

There's only going to be one server. Cryptic goes heavier on instanced zones rather than multiple servers. It's a bit less immersive for some, but there's something to be said for not having to worry about what server someone's on.
One server? Are you sure? I haven't seen anything about a server count on their forums yet. If so that would make for a easier time finding people though.
It's how it is in Champions Online, and I have no reason to believe STO will be any different.
We're going to be forming an Impulse community fleet in the game. I'll post details right before the Head-Start weekend

Im ready but I cant get into the game. Waiting for a response and patch. But hopefully up and running for this weekend.
I've preordered this but am I the only one that is worried about how this is the ultimate pinnacle of geekdom. Like I could tell someone I play Warcraft knowing it sounds geeky but I could put some spin on it to make it sound not so bad but there's no way I could tell someone I play STAR TREK ONLINE! apart from other gaming friends who would get it...
I don't see how Star Trek is geekier than playing with orks and elves. The excellent franchise reboot movie revived a lot of non-geek interest in Star Trek.
Playing either is still better than telling people you play any sort of pen and paper RPG. That is pretty much the height of geekdom.
It's one huge server guys, no worries there. There's a million instances though but you can travel to other ones as long as they aren't full. I'm in open beta now, all pre-ordered and just waiting for Head Start. I'm unsure if I'm going to start a chapter of my long time gaming guild "Dark Chivalry" in ST: O or not. If I don't maybe I'll help out your Impulse group. I will Not be a flying Impulse add . My Fed character is "Raven Xavier" and my Klingon is "Har 'D Kock". Catch you guys in game

It took a little over 24 hours for me to get my beta key via email. I would give it one full day before you get worried.

I really hate cryptic, but I am enjoying STO anyway.
Cryptic have a MMO engine, and they are pumping out MMOs to make cash short-term with no interest in long-term success.
CO, STO, and now that STO is wrapping up (in an unfinished, unpolished, half-assed state) they are already working on a new MMO.
I am enjoying the gameplay of space combat, but their content is terrible. Cookie-cutter boring missions just thrown in. Missions are similiar but of lower quality to the CO and CoH missions.
