Just to clear up, this applies to both console games and PC games, which is why I've got it here.
Okay, I recently got a PS3 Slim for Christmas, alongside the usual fare and 4 games: Tekken 6, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Assassins Creed. I'm a big fan of fighting games, and being a long-time Tekken afficiondo I jumped right into 6. I found the game to be brilliant in almost every aspect, except for two glaring problems; the Scenario Campaign is ridiculously hard in some parts, and the final boss Azazel is one of the most annoying and unpredictable bosses I have ever seen. Frankly though, I like fighting Azazel and have won several victories against him, despite the fact I usually get several resounding losses. Now, a massive debate has started on the internet about who is the harder final boss: Jinpachi from Tekken 5 or Azazel in Tekken 6. Obviously, this is a Tekken debate and has no real concern with other fighting games, but I thought I might bring this topic up.
Discuss who you guys think is the hardest fighting game boss ever, and if I frequent this topic enough I'll even see if I can tally 'votes' and your opinions on who is the hardest boss. Of course, this topic will possess a tonne of different opinions, so you don't have to worry about it if you don't want to. Obviously, this will only be the opinions of people who frequent this site. Hell, a lot of people here may have completely avoided fighting games. Just post what you think.
Personally? I don't really know. I've played a lot of the older fighting games, but the only recent ones I've actually played are the Tekken games from 4 to 6. I remember the creep Magneto/Dr Xavier hybrid thing from X-Men VS Street Fighter, although I thought Apocalypse was a cheesecake. I don't claim to know fighting games that well outside of the old Marvel and Street Fighter and Capcom mix-ups and Tekken, so my vote doesn't really count. It's Azazel for me, simply because there is no possible way to beat him without luck. Some people claim they can juggle/combo him to death, but I too often see those very same people rehash their statements and call him a super annoying always blocking POS. Thoughts?
Vamp in Metal Gear Solid 2 was the most difficult for me but probably because I could not use the controller to aim well.
Lol good replies everyone. I'm a bit weirded out that it turned into a Diablo 2 discussion thread for a while there, but no worries I guess. By the way, that Azazel exploit video? That was just pure luck imo. Some people probably could never even get a high kick hit on that guy, no matter how many times they tried. Funny though.
I didnt think he was that hard
I think the last level of C&C3 as Scrin was damned hard if you played any higher than easy. Hard with Nod and Scrin was cringeworthy
There's obviously no bosses in C&C3, but I thought the last level of Nod on Hard was a killer. I think you had 15 minutes to take out the mother ship? The GDI threw 2 crazy attacks against you before you even had a chance to knock that base out to the SE.
Probably. I didn't play Quake, so I wouldn't know.
Oh, what about that level in Halo 2 where the boss sends all his guards (brutes, snipers, & all) at you to execute you? At the top difficulty level (where the snipers can one-shot-kill you), that level was freaking nuts!! You never got to face the boss head-on at that point, though. (but as it is we're talking about C&C3...)
When I faced Xaero the first time I started laughting because it was so absurd that he never missed a railshot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iit8GNSSw4w <-- That guy got an idea on how to beat him though
As for my harest boss ever....Must be mike tyson from Punch-Out! Although in my version there was Mr.Dream (a white guy with the exact same moves) instead. What the hell were they thinking when they playtested the damn thing....and I coudn't even beat Super Macho Man! There was just NO WAY to dodge his 3-swing that were ALL KO!
I'm currently pondering how to beat Akuma in Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. A friend wants the achievement and we sat for 2 hours trying to beat him but we couldn't....and then my friend couldn't even get to him anymore since he died on his way there!
Tetleytea
Duriel got patched a long time ago so he spawns further back AND doesn't do much damage with his chargeattack anymore.
As Sorceress you Static Field him. In Hell difficulty you Static with your Merc blocking. Then you walk around with Blaze (practice in Normal first!) or just teleport while using your strongest spell. I won on Hell with my MeteOrb.
If we are talking about hatdest game bosses its obvious you guys are thinking far too recently.
We have to go back to the games like those 2D megaman games. For me if we are taking recently it megaman ZX advent Model w or Omega. all that jumping and sliding
If we have to talk games on the newer consoles i am going to say That guy in uncharted 2(thats all i have played so far)
If its fighting games i will go with tekken. those bosses are hard in general
Altaux
Me and my consolefriend have completed all MegaMan games on NES and maybe all on SNES as well. I can't believe they made one of the SNES MegaMans harder then one of the NES MegaMans though
I've heard that MegaMan 9 is incredibly hard though. And the achievements....
Megaman10 should be a real treat
As far as bosses go...
The grinning Colossus from, "you have to burn the rope"

The boss from "I wanna be the guy."
I wasn't aware of the patch. I don't think I remember ever having a Merc, either--is that new to LoD? I can beat Hell with a Sorceress--I beat Hell with all the classes. Actually I did Hell with sorceress more than anything, because I had the most luck getting fast imbues that way. You just static everything. It's Hardcore that's really hard: if you die once or twice on Duriel not on Hardcore when you just levelled, who cares? Just go back, get your stuff, and try again. On Hardcore, if you're dead, you're dead.
Fighting game, whoever was the secret-and-final-we-really-mean-it-this-time boss in Capcom vs SNK 2. I remember spending an entire hour trying to beat him, to no avail... ended up turning the DC off in sheer frustration.
Overall... probably that same boss. I'm far too good at FPSs to have much trouble with them (Quake 3 and UT 2004 included, cheating bastards that they were they still went down), I'm far too slow at RPGs to reach the final bosses at a level I'd have trouble with, and I suck far too much at strategy games to ever see them.
that fan chick in ya-eeyah kung fu...easily should have been last...so rigged
aye duriel was a badass...but honourable mention goes to those space invader critters that start around level 60 in bubble bobble...not really bosses but they may as well have been
This dwarf boss on Montero in King's Bounty is majorly kicking my butt right now.
Chuck Norris.
Yeh thats right..i went there.
Im gonna assume you're joking. I just played that and it was one of the easiest bosses Ive ever played lol.
It took me forever to figure out how to beat him. How was I supposed to know that "You have to burn the rope"
Lol it tells you right in he beginning? And it's the name of the game? hahaa
There hasn't been a truly hard boss in gaming for the past 15 years.
There have been but not in any popular games, cuz gamers in general have gotten too lazy or bad at games to beat hard bosses. so games that have hard bosses arent bought so only easy games are made.
But retro games like megaman are still pretty hard.
The hardest boss for me? It had to be the demon at the end of Soul Reapers, I played it every night for a year and I don't think I ever beat it!
Just played you have to burn the rope. it was surpisingly fun ,though a bad suggestion for hardest boss
